I love this show so far. This is like, a field example of acting. Everyone is great and fits their role within the world they are in.

There still hasn't been a show as great as The Wire, Ben. I think Alonso should be forced to watch it and review it episode by episode on this channel.

I like the different takes on the issue of low income housing and that despite the good intentions of trying to increase economic mobility and discourage people from a life of crime answering the question of what is the effect on the community at large (social and property values) is not an easy thing to predict.

Alonso great call about the coded hate/language that people use in "Show me a Hero" and in politics... it's painful but the honest truth.

You know, "The Wire" is so great, you should crawl through it 4 eps at a time. I bet a lot of people would re-watch it with you! I would. It's great!

It's easy to be righteously indignant watching this on TV ~30 years post, not saying they were justified at all. What annoyed me was the 110% emotion based reaction to the politicians, like how the Tea Party people go nuts when republicans can't repeal the ACA. I guess the politicians shouldn't run on an unrealistic platform...

I think this review was so aimed purely at other people that watched the show, it really does a disservice to those of us that haven't watched it but may depending on the reviews quality. If it wasn't for the fact I like watching Ben & Alonso go back and forth, I really would have lost interest after the first 3 minutes, and it's not until a little further they actually dig into the specific show itself - prior to that it's mostly reminiscing (with Alonso reminiscing about a show he still hasn't seen, smh :0 ).

Gangrel Aussie Howdy -- the idea behind these recaps is that they're specifically for people who have already watched the show. That's why we go episode by episode. Thanks for watching!
@KainErrow9 жыл бұрын
Alonso Duralde Hey Alonso, thanks for the reply! Hope (and guessing none was) you didn't take any offense there, it just seemed odd as during many of your other reviews there does seem to be a fair bit of recap / exploration of the episode(s) - time allowing and all. Anyway, reading up more on this show for watching later, it's got a lot of good selling points. Oh, and Ben's right: you need to watch both The Wire and also the Shield - or at least the first two seasons of both. It's always telling of a great series when the second season really matches up or even exceeds the first. :)

Movies, we avoid spoilers; TV, we kinda take it as read that anyone watching has already seen the show. It's a fine distinction, granted, but there it is. And yes, "The Wire" has been on my list for quite a while, but given that I'm usually watching 5-6 new shows at a time for WTF, on top of reviewing new movies, it's been hard to find the time. Maybe one day when I'm in the Burgess Meredith bunker with an extra pair of glasses...

Jay Quintana Yeah, pretty much. Breaking Bad was a good show. The Wire was sheer brilliance.
@holaquetal19189 жыл бұрын
+Jay Quintana you cant go wrong with either. they are my favorite dramas ever.
@awsumpossum19 жыл бұрын
Jay Quintana Breaking bad was godlike, definetly. But the wire is better for a few reasons, the first was that it was based on reality, the show handles actual police work, crime networks, legal struggles, and personal failings on the most realistic level. It also captures the time periods INCREDIBLY WELL. Like the show is in 2002, they barely use computers, season 2 and 3 they figure out what text messaging is like its from the future, its fascinating to watch how the times evolve that quickly as they did in the early 2000s. 2nd, the show only got bigger, something a show has rarely been able to do before. Each season changed setting, narrative, point, story telling styles, and character. The wire is better only because it was more inventive and it was nothing like it before. Breaking bad is just the best drama ever made in terms of acting and writing. but it definitely lacks a reality based imagination.
@schmoab9 жыл бұрын
Breaking Bad is in its own league. Nothing compares to seasons 1-4. I hate being a sheeple but it's true.
@Shadowman47109 жыл бұрын
Well I wouldn't agree to that, as good as the early seasons of Breaking Bad were. I kind of dropped out somewhere in season four but that probably had more to do with my tv habits than the quality of the show itself. But I'd stack "The Wire" and "Deadwood" against any other show.
