Alfie - I've had acid reflux for years and recently stopped taking my meds. The meds will help, but they are not meant to be a long term solution. A lot of the issue is diet related and I'm sure your doctor has told you this, but I figured I shared what worked for me. Drink lots of water throughout the day and first thing in the morning before you eat, limit your trigger foods (for me that's chocolate, wine and tomato/sauces), and don't eat and then immediately go to bed. When you lay down the acid is coming back up your esophagus. Also, peppermint tea aggravates the issue because the peppermint relaxes the muscle of the flap that closes your stomach. When the muscle relaxes, the flap doesn't close all the way and acid leaks in. So no more late night pizza! Hope that helps and you're feeling better soon!

acid reflux isn't cause by a bad diet it just makes it worse the acid reflux will never go away

As long as you continue to eat pizza and burgers and things of this nature you will keep having your stomach and chest pain..of course everyone's bodies are different and different foods will effect you differently, if you have acid re flux and clearly a really sensitive stomach you have to make dramatic changes. At least until you start to notice improvements and then slowly reintroduce certain foods in small doses. It's all about moderation, but for right now you would need to cut all of it out.Find out exactly what foods your noticing cause problems, for me lighter cooked meals (no burgers or pizza) go easier on my stomach. As well as NO white bread, red meats, greasy foods,dairy, alcohol, wheat..basically everything that is yummy. I have all the problems you have and for my whole life I just "dealt" with the pain because I am a major food lover..but it isn't something that is just going to go away and if anything will get worse. Your body is telling you to stop and its important you listen so you don't have bigger problems in the future. Haha, ok. Preachy rant done.

of course your chest is going to hurt when you wake up because you ate a pizza in bed at midnight! as someone who also suffers from acid reflux/GERD you can't do that! you shouldn't even eat past 7:30 or sit down for at least an hour after eating. a tip would be to eat apples, they are supposed to be a natural way to help the acid.
