Honestly, when I started I switched between the Vestal and Occultist. I did Vestal first and was like "5, 5, 5, 5... huh." and then I did Occultist and every heal in that dungeon was at least 10... *Reject God, return to Cthulhu*

I definitely slept on Plague Doctor's healing skill when I first played this game but removing DOT is actually huge healing and makes a great pairing with Occultist since you expect some bleeds. And since you're pairing PD with Occultist and Blight is good in the Cove and all the Cove enemies are Eldritch that makes the Cove a great place to go. And since the Cove has Coral you can remove all your negative quirks and save yourself thousands of gold in the Hamlet. And since you brought PD you may as well remove all your diseases, too, saving yourself even more thousands of gold in the Hamlet. PD is just such an unreal value, 10/10 would buy again.

Personally, I like Occultists as main healer, with occultist as my secondary healer.

Plague Doc is honestly an underrated healer imo. Double stun has saved me thousands of damage 🥰

Also the Flagellant’s reclaim heal-over-time is the only heal in the game that cannot be denied by an afflicted hero.

Feel like it's worth mentioning that crit heals differ from damage in two ways; crit rate is always set at 12% for single target and 5% for AOE, which you mentioned, but also getting a crit doubles whatever you roll, meaning it doesn't automatically use the maximum like attacks do. It doesn't usually come into play since ranges aren't that wide (other than Occultist), but I figure it's worth mentioning regardless.

Leper is the best healer because you don't have to heal anything if you instantly nuke everything out of existence.

Just remember that if you can negate damage that that's effectively better healing, a lot of the time attacking is better than healing

Occultist is hands down the best healer in the game, he just so happens to also be one of the biggest team killers in the game, IMO it’s worth the gamble to bass boost his speed and healing skill so that you can at least have any possible bled heroes bandaged up within that round

Still mad about the Arbalest being the perfect class on paper (a backline damage dealer who heals when the backline is dead and stalling/recovery starts) but she somehow just doesn‘t work.

I've been watching your videos so much because, correct me if I'm wrong, most of us here are people who randomly pick up this game and can't put it down for weeks at a time. Such a niche game but I couldn't be more excited about the sequel. I'm in my third stint of playing this, and only this, from waking up early and putting hours on it and then grabbing a couple runs later in the day. Every niche needs and expert an you're my guy.

nice to see Arbalest in here, people really sleep on her healing output. she is wonderful at it with just one healing trinket which you can get really early and her crimson court trinket which isn't something you may get at first but it is a great trinket when you do. as well that healing incease with the bandage makes the self heals of houndmaster, leper, and the abomination a lot better. she also pairs really well with occultist just incase he roles a zero.

Why doesn't arbalest bandages heal bleed? Just why?

The holy crusade of crusader-crusader-leper-leper, is a pretty great team for stress heal, hp heal, damage output and hp pool. Make crusader-4 has the higher speed and they holy lance forever. Bleed resist Flagellant is the craziest healing, I think. One that has multiple chances to crit heal and do some sanity as well

Occultist is actually a great primary healer. He's just terrible when you need a death's door heal. Primary healer implies a secondary healer. If you run him alongside Arbalest, or run him alongside self healers like HM and Leper, he's golden. I know that only the last HP counts, but Occultist can ensure that's usually not a consideration. He's a horrifying eldritch security blanket.

Chig Charm > Sacred Scroll Vestal's heals are high enough to not need that much of a boost 99% of the time. You always need her to stun when not healing or doing some helpful dmg with judgement which is a viable heal if only she is hurt. Scroll hampers both of her best proactive skills. Go on, show him you're ready....

A fully dedicated heal/stress heal flagellant can remove the stress and health mechanic from your other 3 heroes. Reclaim is insane and is in my opinion the equal of a vestal, combined with max health% healing and stress reduction+healing and you can heal your teammates for almost 20 stress while taking like 2 in return. Running a crusader or jester means you can keep the flag's stress in check as well, essentially turning the game to easy mode.

I have learnt quite a lot with your videos mate. Im new to the game and it is a struggle. Like I was doing fine until I reached champion quests and then I relaised I had to start a new camaping, get way more heroes, build them slowly, get the upgrades and get to champion quests in much better shape. Its quite a grind eh? Just came back after losing a plague doctor on a long mission, feeling bummed. Liked and subbed btw!

Love the content Shuffle. I was too nervous not to run Vestal for a long time and honestly I’m glad I’ve moved to using an OCC and PD combo more commonly because honestly I find it easier to fill the other 2 spots since OCC and PD are great at battle control.

Lately, I've discovered just how potent Flag's heal over time can be, and I went from using it as a secondary source of healing to being a primary source of healing. It's also worth noting that the restoration buff persists after battles into exploration, just like DoTs, so walking a few spaces uninterrupted can end up giving a unit almost all their health back.

Wish you had opened a point focusing in autoheals - Leper, Houndmaster, Abom, Hellion and Vestal - as bringing some of these is impactful on the choice of the healer, or even if it really necessary to bring one. The healing boost from arbalest/mustk is even more effective with some of those autohealers.

Battlefield healing is actually a BIG reason ive been keeping a plauge doctor in my party, mix that with the stuns and a vestial and i can usually keep the stress casters locked down so my front liners can kill things

Feels a little bit like you skimmed over the Arbalest's camp heals (an "All Companions" heal like Triage is pretty nice when you're beat up and/or can't afford a Feast), but overall this is a very nice analysis. Good writeup, Shuffle.

For me it's simple. For mark-based builds and low-risk dungeons I pick Occultist. In other cases - Vestal with healing trinkets. I prefer stable aoe-10 to a whole team over "Crit 0, bleeding" before Deathblow.

I know its a year ago, but I just felt like watching some Darkest Dungeon content. It always felt weird to me that Arbalest/Musketeer don't cleanse bleed just cause they use Bandages, while Plague Doctor gives you some Potion and just blood stops flowing, always seemed funny just cause how stupid that sounds.

One of the best uses of that meme template that I have seen lol.

3:36 Very simple reason. 3 * 1.5(50% increase) is 4.5. You round up for decimals at or above 5, so rounding 4.5 would make it a 5. But when you ad another 50% you DON'T suddenly increase the 4.5 by another 50%, you just add the two 50s together and increase the base value by it. So then we have 3 * 2(100% increase) which is a flat 6 without any rounding.

Would just like to shout out Occultist's blood pact trinket as a damage mitigation trinket for his own heal lol. I know it's generally not worth bringing normally since all it does is make his heal slightly more reliable, but it kinda kicks ass in torchless runs with that +4 speed on top of everything else.

The Occultist and the Flagellant are most likely to be my main healers because they're too dang great! The Vestal however... well she's a great healer too but my issue for her is... she's quite easily get stressed and then comes to affliction beside with the Jester. At least the Jester has a stress - reliever skill that's why I bring him along to the party.

I fell in love with the occultist once I took the heal off her bar. She just does so much work when she's killing or hindering.

I for one use Chirurgeons Charm far more often than Sacred Scroll. The I slap the stun amulet on my Vestal and suddenly Dazzling Light is her main move.

Vestal is best if your entire team is squish, which is why she's so good for early game. Once your team becomes good at dodging and gets some prot and a not-shite health pool, you want single-target heals for the one or two heroes who got piled up on or took an unlucky crit

Antiquarian also gives you alot more gold if you open curios with her.

Occultist is the best healer? Well yes, But actually no. I lost the count of how many allies the occultist killed with the combo 0+bleed.

plague doctor's leeches is good too. Diseases can hobble a good hero and taking the time to treat them in the medical ward sucks. Grave digger's snuffbox is even better, in case she also has a disease

Healing is really whack in general, but I also wasn't healing at the right time. The best time to heal would be when the threat against you has the least potential to hit as hard or harder. Most front liners hit hard for life and most backliners hit hard at stress. If at the start of the fight I focus the backline and stun the frontline, at the end of the fight I'll still be taking almost as much as I would be if I didn't touch the backline at all. I was also using Vestal's backline heal without any boost from the Arbalest, which outside of getting someone higher over Death's Door, is most often lower value than the group heal. Not every front liner hits hard and not every stress caster hits for a lot of stress, so it changes kill focus and healing priority.

Expected flag in preview in place of occultist, with number like 150 or something stupid like that (crit heal from Redeem with 100% heal bonus is like 1.5 the max hp of a character, you can get really stupid AND really useless numbers from Leper with that).

Antiquarian keeps the party off death door, i prefer her HoT with more damage focused compositions just to burn through fights

Given the sheer number of times Occultist healed from death's door to full health even chonky bois like Leper and Crusader, he's my favourite healer in this game. I take healbot Occlutist quite often, just slap Junia's head and Ancestor's scroll on him and call it a day. I remember taking Occultist with just a scroll or none of healing trinkets at all on Vet and Champion missions and the difference is very apparent. Easy 17-25 no crit heals turned into something around 10-14 and it felt super meh.

how trinket stats are calculated? When i've two trinkets that increase healing, one increase 50%, the other increases 15%, 'll have a increase of 65% or it will increase 50% and 15% of the value increased before? Btw i`ve a problem with stress stats, the ones that said that gives +20% stress, its about stress reduction or I`ll gain +20% more stress?

Yesterday I tried to run occultist as a main healer without second, backup healer like crusader or plague doctor. Worst mistake ever. I wasted 6 bandages in 2 fights and then i saw Uca Major... that was my first time, when it was able to stack bleeding with arterial pinch on any of my heroes. After first hit i tried to heal with occultist. That's how it went: 0-0-0-0(critical+bleed). Well... with 17 bleed per 6 turns and no bandages this was a really good run. Solo occultist as a healer? -Never again.

Unrelated but funny trinket combo: swift cloak + move charm +1 speed and nothing else

There is a trinket that gives -15 bleed that can make occultist practically safe.

Yeah okay I did the math for occultist using average dice rolls. (all possible numbers divided by the amount of "sides", here it's 23) I'm not counting crits. Without bleed he rolls 0 to 22 heal for an average of 11 with bleed he rolls -9 to 13 for an average of 2 Moral of the story, bring plague doctor's heal, flagellant's suffer, bleed resist or some bandages. 0 heal and bleed is bad on a pinch but he heals for more than vestal.

AOE heal is the best thing when you have to deal with AOE damage. In that mod that ads German units from WW2, which is based on that WARSAW game, it comes with a wandering boss which is a god damned Panzer 4. And that beast has such awful AOE skills, that without a Vestal with AOE heal (I meet that thing with a Occulitst), it will grind you to a pulp.

I heard a suggestion that you shouldn't really focus on the healing with Antiquarian, and go for damage instead, since at higher level 3 vs 5 healing really doesn't make much difference, so I kinda just stopped using the candle altogether. (50% heal and 15%HP with no drawbacks sound really good on paper, but in practice it's just really underwhelming)

im by no means good at this game, i still dont know shit and im only on my second ever run, but i actually think occultist is better then vestal. I dont know if its my luck with him or something but i find occultist to be consistent enough to out-heal vestal on almost every level especially very early on when vestal heals for 4. ofc you might get a very low heal or a zero and that sucks but ive had this guy heal for 20+ significantly more times thenive had him heal 0. (also i should note i almost always use junia's head on him cause all his other trinkets as you said dont help out that much)

healing trinkets on occultist aren't actually that, good anyways. Unlike with damage, where multipliers are added to both sides of the range and then a number is rolled between them with each number being equally probable, with healing, the roll is first made and then the number is multiplied by the healing buff. Thus, no matter how much healing you buff an occultist at max level still has a 1/23 chance to roll zero, and it takes a wopping 50% healing buff just for the next lowest tick number to start outpacing the smallest dots you see. If occultist had healing trinkets, people might think that using those trinkets is the solution to their occultist low roll meme, but in reality, since they only have significant impacts on the high rolls, it the healing buffs would only provide meaningful contributions when occultists are healing people near or at deaths door, but without reducing the risk inherent to doing that. Occultist healing buff is a trap that makes people wait too long to heal, and trying to fix occultist healing with trinkets is a trap to not using stuff that improves stun or pull chance. Among all healers, he's probably the worse choice to buff healing, since he can get so much value with buffed stuns and pulls

I’d say if you want to get the most out of you occultist with them getting your teammates killed from RNG here’s some questionable advice: -Pair occultist with tanks like leper due to the high heal cap -Bring teammates with higher than average DOT resist and give them trinkets relating to it if necessary and never do the inverse. -Bring someone along to do any backup healing until the funny skull man re-adjusts his turban so he can do big heals at in the case of DD. I’m not that great at DD it’s just what I’ve noticed is getting the most party members killed.

It's a shame, that Vestal doesn't have any trinket dedicated to stunning chance. Put such a trinket and other to boost healing and she's super powerful and reliable.
