Shure KSM42 Review

It has been awhile since I've done a review video for A/V equipment but I like to keep my viewers happy. This is just a short one regarding my impressions of the Shure KSM42 Condenser Microphone. I call it a cardioid, which it is but you know what I mean.

my job is giving me 2 45% off coupons for shure so I wanted to get a nice microphone and some mixing headphones, this microphone sounds amazing. Thank you for this video on showing the mic quality

Definitely a sleeper mic! The entire KSM series line of mics are really good.

Hey man, I think I requested this review. Thanks for making it and sharing your take. I picked up one on Reverb for half the price. I was skeptical about buying a used mic, but thankfully it arrived in good shape and functions just as you described. It's strange, but yeah there isn't a lot of buzz about this mic online. Some people don't like that it transmits your voice, exactly as your voice is. I would think that would be the ultimate goal for a vocalist and microphone manufacturer. After all, any effect can be added in post production. Anyway, great mic, solid build. Classic Shure.

you are right, it doesn't add anyting to your voice that isn't there. I truly wish this mic would gain some popularity, it such a good mic and built like a tank. It is definitely one of my forever mics. Everytime I thin about swapping it for a Neuman TLM103, I am reminded that I have always danced to my own tune and dared to be different and keep my KSM42

@@aprilwatts-voiceoverartist8744 the problem with the tlm 103 is the low frequencies, they sound muddy... to my ears... but listening to the sound of the ksm 42... I would definitely choose the ksm 42, for me it has a more crystalline sound... I imagine that in the voices bass ... like Shadoe Stevens's would sound GREAT

Thanks for doing this review as there aren't many. I use this mic for voice over and it's such a sleeper mic. Not sure why it flies under the radar as well. It was $799 when I bought mine and with everything, it looks like it has had a price increase of $50 bucks but it's worth it. You are right the low self-noise and the sweet spot are great for doing animation and audiobooks. Perhaps the double capsule plays a role. I wish more people knew about this mic and gave it a chance, it is great for the spoken word and the only mic you will ever need. Have had several engineers comment that my audio sits nicely in the mix.
