A contrast in sound.
A comparison of the original V15 and the last V15 model, the V15 Type VxMR. 33 years of technology separates the 2 models.
These 2 cartridges sound nothing like the other V15 models. While the sound of the V15 Type II through Type V-MR was designed to be flat and uncolored, the sound of the original V15 and the xMR is definitely not neutral.
The peak in the 12k - 15k Hz range in the V15 produces a "bright" sound with an emphasis in the high frequencies; there is a slight hiss.
The xMR used the same technology that is used in microphones to produce a fuller, warmer vocal tone; the result is what Shure calls a more "musical" sound.

V15vxMR hands down! That is, if you like the natural sound of acoustic instruments. If you are more into rock and pop, "natural sound" does not mean much, so it's a matter of taste. I have a V15vxMR and a V15III and I think they are excellent.

Fantastic channel you have. I enjoy your comparisons and the informations you also provide with each cartridge. I am one of those who likes the Type 1 best - musicality and drive, whereas the Type V xMR sounds dull, like my V15 V :-). I have between 80 and 90 MM cartridges myself, but not the V15 Type 1, - unfortunately. For me it could be interesting to hear a comparison between the Shure M44 and the Type 1. My guess is, that they sound pretty similar.... Thank you again for this fine and interesting work!

Great video. The V-15 MR sounds better but also has better rejection of surface noise of the record itself.

I also prefer V-15MR I feel It more natural, too much detail tires me

Much prefer the first V15, which goes against most things I have read? The music was more...er...musical!

No comparison original smokes the v which I found inferior to the 3 The type 2 has more output than the 3 and is alive sounding like the 1. The more they improved them the worse they got. I even heard the 4 sounding good it’s less bright than the 3 The V is the one I sold a week after I bought it

What an AWESOME comparison! You know, I leaned more towards the original. Had such an aliveness to it. Sparkle if you will? I LOVE the VxMR version which I’m lucky enough to own.

the first time I heard the V15 I, I thought the same thing, a lively sounding cartridge

SHURE v15 has a massive 6mv output ... and you can hear the difference against the 2.5mv output of the v15 V xMR... shure v15 should play rock music and blues a lot better than than v15 V xMR... I've got SHURE v15 IV and ortofon GT : I prefer the last one when I wanna listen to Led Zeppelin or Muddy WAters... the Ortofon GT has an outstanding 8mv output and that makes the difference when you wanna hear the punch in low frequencies ...

For my eats, V15VxMR. Type 1 has audible distortion by comparison. Contrast in sound, indeed.

Maybe a good idea would be to compare the flagship cartridge of each Shure generation, since you have them all, like M3D vs M33-5 vs M44-5 (?) vs V-15 1 vs V-15 2... Or just the V-15 series, either one is a not bad idea for a future video

@@vinyltranslators3730 If comparing the M3D to the M33-5 or M44-5, it would be good to use a N22D stylus which has a .6 mil tip and light tracking force

@@midmodaudio6576 I don't have the N22D stylus but I do have an N21D which has a 0.7 mil and tracks at 1.5 - 2.5 grams. I has thinking of using the upgraded stylus.....I always cringe when I play my records at 3+ grams..
