And to think Steve did this solo IN ONE TAKE. Completely freestyled it and they kept the first cut. Amazing.

Yeah. Steve is kinda like that kid on your hockey team that scored 8 points every game only he does it on guitar. Normal players can't do what he does! Cheers, Andy

It's a really good thing Steve started hanging out with Eddie Van Halen😂... no seriously when I heard this on the radio I'm from the San Francisco Bay area where the tubes we're based out of and got lots of radio play. The song absolutely made me want to play rock n roll lead guitar, it still does 43 years later Great lesson 🤟

Thanks a lot. I remember hearing this solo when the song came out. Didn’t play guitar at that time, but it really caught my ear. Didn’t find out it was Luke until a few years later. Been a fan ever since.

Talk To Ya Later Was Actually Written And Recorded In 1980 And It Was The Best Rock 'N' Roll Song Ever Written! I Don't Care What Anybody Says. My Hats Off To Fee Waybill, Steve Lukather, And David Foster! By The Way, It Would Be Great If You Have A Guitar Lesson Of Blue Oyster Cult's Burnin' For You. That's Another Great Tune!

I have this LP from back in the 80's. I was always like "the Tubes lead guitarist is awesome. That's one of the best solos I've ever heard." I typed in who played this solo on google years later. Steve Lukather. Aha moment. Not sure why he's not mentioned as an all-time great because he certainly is. Great instructional video I'll be working on this for a while, thanks. Tons of great licks in this solo.

....the "Tubes" players could play very well. Think about the Solo from "White Punks on Dope". "Don't want to wait" and the great "Mr. Hate" are Landmarks. Something other you maybe don't know: on "Think about me" is NO guitar - it is a Keyboard. Many good stuff on other Tubes records. Greets from Germany.

You are absolutely SIC!!! I am picking up my newly purchased Mint Radiance Red Luke II this weekend. Cannot wait to fine tune this song. One of the best leads and guitarist anywhere. Toto does not get half the respect they deserve for all the different styles, creative lyrics and twist and turns that make you want to play that song again and again. From Hold the Line to Devils Tower and soo many more. Name any band that has members with over 5000 session credits to their name. Can't do it can you ??? I'll be getting back to you very soon!!!

As much vibrato on that last note as .010s allow...... hahahaha flat notes sound great if you play them with conviction and do it the same way every time, people will not recognize it as a mistake.... they think you meant to do it that way.... again... your playing lessons for technical riffs are outstanding!! The best I have seen. Your memory must be huge and in color!!!

Absolutely great! But is there a specific reason for starting that opening riff on the 12th fret of B instead of the 16th of G? The latter seems a lot easier

Also.... there is really something to playing this with less distortion as the notes bloom and ring better making it clear you are demonstrating the notes and harmonic overtones so we the listener can grasp it better!! Mark Day plays it well on his channel, but uses way too much distortion with his fractile rig... love your lessons!!

Wow! Great lesson, but ridiculously hard. I really have to improve on my legato thing. Btw, I don't recall seeing Lukather having anything to with that song and I know that album really well. (David Foster wrote much of it, btw) When I saw them do it live, the two regular guitarists, Bill Spooner and Roger Steen, played all the parts. I will inquire further though. Thanks for this (I think LOLOL)

You struggle with that riff a lot because you are playing .010s..... hahahaha nice guitar work!! Wonder if Lukather remembers it this well?? You may have to show him one day.

Luke is the guitarist for Toto. He is probably the most prolific session guitarist from LA ever. It's estimated he has played on about 1500 recordings. Look him up - amazing what he has done.
