Scarborough Fair is a song originally about a guy asking the girl who wishes to be with him to do impossible tasks such as "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt" "Without no seams nor needlework", which is impossible. Its basically saying that all these tasks were impossible to complete in the first place, hence the girl will never be with the guy. HOWEVER, whats even more mindblowing is that Yamada Tamaru in her SukaSuka rendition of the song switched out the "her" parts with "his", thus suggesting that Willem who wishes to be with the one he loves, Chtholly, will never achieve it. The promises they make with each other, which can be substituted with the tasks in the song, are impossible, and thus they will never be with each other. Fun fact: "In Medieval times, the herbs mentioned in the song represented virtues that were important to the lyrics. Parsley was comfort, Sage was strength, Rosemary was love, and Thyme was courage." Thus you can start to piece together how the song depicts Willem's and Chtholly's struggles, their qualities, and their story as she rushes towards the battlefield to her death.

I will never watch this anime again, it emotionally damaged me. It was the first show I stayed up till three am to finish and I was sobbing my eyes out. It was a beautiful show and I will never be able to watch it again. Thank you for the wonderful AMV, this brought back some sad memories.

5 years later, Chtholly is implied to have reincarnated into a new fairy called Ryehl on Sky Island 38, during the events of Suka Moka.Last scene of the anime in episode 12, two young fairies holding a blue haired girl is not referred to Chtholly's reincarnation. It was the time when Chtholly was born.

I was just watching this to see if I should watch the anime and now I'm crying T^T Scarborough Fair is such a beautiful song, and those spoken lines hurt so much. The AMV accomplished exactly what I think all AMVs should, and that's to tell a story about the anime itself such that the viewer can understand even without having watched the show. Amazingly done.

Damn, This song is so soothing, one of the best anime i have seen so far. I don't know why these kinda anime don't deserve a second season because there are many incredible anime that have been ended up already having one season only and those are so awesome and sometimes i get nostalgic whenever i think about the storyline, characters, emotions.

It's been 4 years but this still, I have too many different emotions, love for the characters. Their story of how they loved each other and vowed to be together till the end, and protected each other till death. Listening to this song made me cry once again. May we be blessed with a second season.

For everyone who indeed finds this anime amazing, I would definitely recommend to read the light novel. The feelings, the story, characters, every aspect of it is on totally high level as anime and even better! There is also a continuation SukaMoka and a new spinoff about Leila Asprey and Willem. (past events of his life, 500 years ago) Also, the author confirmed there will be a continuation of Willem's story in present (basically of the main light novel) P.S. It was so interesting that I was reading 1 book per day))

Your edit came just now on my suggestions. I am crying. Not just the edit is as beautiful as I remembered but my dear friend of around 15 years mostly online and since 2019 face to face friend who I cared for helped and looked after since then passed away yesterday on April 21 2022. She was like a sister to me. I have literally cried non stop past 3 days. I showed about two years ago this video to her and she loved this.

I hear the finale of the show is effectively volume 3, so by volume 4 they'll be past the anime (it usually takes 4 months for volume releases, so you're looking at close to a year for it to pass the anime). I'm not sure about fan translations.

Romeo and Juliet also separated by destiny the errors dropped on them by fate they could have easily escaped together with just a tad better luck. Not a easy life though people depended on extended family connections there was no other safety net it would have been a hard life.
