Photos by Steven J Brown. A travelog of a circle trip around Siberia on the Baikal-Amur Mainline and Trans-Siberian Railway in 1997. See if I can keep up and drink vodka with the Russians. (Spoiler alert - I can not!)

I’m surprised you don’t have hundreds of thousands of views, great stories, I feel like I’m with you traveling the world all while getting to talk about trains. I am currently 20 and had my daughter at 18, I wish I could’ve traveled the world but this seems just as good, thank you for sharing your experiences!

I just saw Bald and Bankrupt's video about the BAM in 2021. Interesting to see you visited the exact same places in 1997.

Wow This was Great. It's so not what most westerners would think once you first get there. My log book shows me to have visit, Moscow, Yakutsk, Vladivostok, and Novosibirsk. And like up in the northern most Canada, it was the permafrost that keep speeds low, and you may or may not arrive at the time you thought you would. I have always made good friends even with not knowing the language. It's amazing in my world travels meeting people who are so inviting to let you into your harts and country.

Wow, Wenatchee Washington, that's not something I was expecting to hear about in Russia... That's honestly really interesting.

Omg I live in Seattle & remember seeing this Airplane back in the day, when my buddy was training to become a pilot. I always dreamed of saving up enough money to take this flight one day. What a gem of a video!!

Not only am I a RR photographer, but I like Military stuff too. Being born just a couple miles from the USAF museum, Dayton,Ohio. The image at 12:23 shows 2 Russian guys. They are wearing what is called "blue tiger stripe" camo pattern. I have a parka from Russia in the very same patter. Hint. If you want the absolute best in winter wear, get Russian stuff. Well made with great features. I have a lot of Russian wear. Considering this is 1997, this pattern of tiger stripe here is not long after it's introduction. At 14:27 the soldier in uniform appears to be in the older "Flora" camo pattern.

Its called blue kamush, very common for the OMON to wear.

Thanks for this excellent video Steven. Great photos, and amazing the hospitality of the Russian people despite you not even speaking the language! What a trip, I'd like to do something similar some time. Also thanks for including the list of music.

Excellent video! I noticed in the cabinet of the Tynda museum at around 5:10 in the video there's a paper with the Finnish and Soviet flags which appears to be some kind of sister city deal. I got curious, but wasn't able to find any Finnish sister cities with Tynda. It appears to be written in Finnish and in Russian, and I bet the name of the cities are there under the signatures. I can almost hallucinate "City of..." in Finnish from the few pixels there, but can't quite make out what city it would be!

Not gonna lie, but the music in this video is just awesome. Forget Hardbass, this is Russian music!
