Siege of Constantinople | Ottoman Empire vs Romans - Epic Cinematic Total War Battle

Күн бұрынMehmet II, 21 years old assaulted the city of Constantinople in a battle of the ages between the now established Ottoman Empire and the old Byzantine Emperor to hold the famous city of Constantinople. Mehmet II wanted to prove his skeptics (both enemies and allies) wrong by capturing Constantinople from the Romans, something which has not been achieved before. The reason for that was the obstacle which was the Theodosian Walls. A Hungarian named Orban went to the Byzantine Emperor and proposed to work for him on a project to construct the biggest cannon ever made, but he was rejected by the Romans due to a lack of funds at that time. Orban then turned to the Ottomans, which after many successful campaigns, were able to afford to hire him. And so, the Turkish engineers started working on the cannon famously called Basilica. Mehmet II outnumbered the Byzantine Romans by many times, but Emperor Constantine XI was not worried and had full confidence in the strength of Constantinople's walls. The Byzantine Roman army was much smaller but was supported by stationed troops from Venice and Genoa.
Many Ottoman ships were also involved in this battle. However, they are not shown here since they are not supported in the mod.
This is meant to show the battle of Constantinople of 1453 but may not be fully historically accurate.
This cinematic battle was created using Attila Total War with the 1212 AD mod.

Delilik mi akıl mı bilmem ama Osmanlı'nın 2.Mehmed'den sonraki padişahları aynı vizyonu izleyemedi ve aslında gerçek gerileme Fatih'ten sonra başladı. Avrupalılar ise Akdeniz yolu kapanınca ticaret için yeni keşifleri düşünmeye başladı. Bilimi de kullanarak yüzyıllar sonra öne geçtiler.

Unlike the previous sieges done by the other Ottomans,,,Mehmet invested significantly in the Navy and it played a huge role in the war...He even moved his navy across the land around galata!!! It will be splendid if you were graphically mentioned that!!!

Sultan Mehmet the II was a great visionery and smart and well educated leader. He knew 6 languages.He was reading Illiad&Odysee and Bible in Greek. He was very big fan of art and science.He was a great strategist and commander.

He was educated in Constantinople. After the conquest of Constantinople, Mehmed claimed the title of Caesar of the Roman Empire (Qayser-i Rûm), based on the assertion that Constantinople had been the seat and capital of the Roman Empire since 330 AD, and whoever possessed the Imperial capital was the ruler of the Empire. In addition, Mehmed claimed bloodline with the Comnenos imperial family. The contemporary scholar George of Trebizond supported his claim. The claim was not recognized by the Catholic Church and most of, if not all, Western Europe, but was recognized by the Eastern Orthodox Church. Mehmed had installed Gennadius Scholarius, a staunch antagonist of the West, as the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople with all the ceremonial elements, ethnarch (or milletbashi) status and rights of property that made him the second largest landlord in the said empire by the sultan himself in 1454, and in turn Gennadius II recognized Mehmed the Conqueror as successor to the throne.

The fierce resistance on the Byzantine side makes sense, fighting for their last resort. But the determination on the Muslim side was much beyond the average for an attacker, since attacking is much more difficult than defensing, they wanted it at all costs. Their motive was the Hadith of the prophet Muhammed PBUH: "Verily, you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful army will that army be, and what a wonderful commander will that conqueror be.” And by the way, they didn't "walk in streets plundering for 3 days" first because it didn't happen, second because it's prohibited in Islam. The Sultan even set garrison to protect the churches to prevent over excited soldiers from doing anything stupid after victory. May Allah bless them.

Mehmet II was ascended the throne in his 20th year. He took the name “conqueror” (fatih) after the conquest of Istanbul on 29th May 1453. The conquest of Istanbul spelled the end of the byzantine empire and entered a phase of urban revival under the wise and tolerant administrations of Mehmet and his immediate successors. The capture of Istanbul was followed by a long succession of campaigns which resulted in a tremendous extension of direct ottoman rule. Among those areas that fell to Mehmet II were serbia, greece, the empire of trezibizond, wallachia, bosnia, karaman, albania and several venetian and geneose maritime establishments. He ruled the ottoman empire for 30 years and joined 25 campaigns himself. He was a very strict statesman and a very brave soldier. He took place in front of his army in the wars and he encouraged his soldiers. The emperor had died on 3rd May 1481. He was buried in Fatih Turbesi near the mosque of fatih in Istanbul.

Well done! The only cons are; 1) The lack of ships in this mod! It would be nice to see the naval aspect of the siege, especially when the blockade broke during the battle of the 18th of April by four incoming freighters, 2) There's no large/monster bombard model available as in MTW2 & 3) I think that both sides had handguns at their disposal and the defenders had also crossbows. Other than these limitations, it's pretty decent job!!

thanks. Yeah, that is the way the mod is done. It's quite a miracle that I can use medieval units in this game so I can make these types of videos. Other than that, I am limited by these mods which are pretty amazing.

The genius tactic in war history was to run ships by land. He needed many cannons and the men with the ships in the war. Byzantines put the huge chains from head to toe at the entrance of the Golden Horn. The battleships were carried from Bosphorus to the Golden Horn by the land. It was the most important strategic move of Sultan Mehmet that enabled him to conquer Istanbul. Without this, Istanbul probably would not have been conquered, and Mehmet the 2nd would not have been able to take the name of “ The Conqueror”. Your effort is valuable, but this is a great shortcoming of your work. I hope you will make an edit as soon as possible. Believe me, it would be very nice.

He was the one who conquered Istanbul because no one else could even think of it nor could run the battleship by the land. That needed newer technology as well. Remember, he was only 21 when he conquered Istanbul.

Byzantium is a Greek town, conquered by the Roman Empire and renamed to Constantinople and later conquered and renamed by the Ottoman Empire, that's what it is.
