The more equipment that is dumped on an organization, the more difficult it is to complete projects in the long-term; having more mouths to feed, as they say. I can tell you for a fact that Sierra No. 38 has no future at Railtown. It is too large and would be far too expensive to restore, cosmetically or otherwise. Even if it were put on static display, there's nowhere it could be parked where it isn't in the way; equipment is moved around constantly at Railtown, and having a giant paperweight like the 38 would be a huge pain to deal with. Railtown already has a large number of original equipment on-hand, much of which is still awaiting restoration. We can do lot more with what we already have than we could with more locomotives.

Rich on the oil for photo ops

I’m a big fan of smoke in my photos, but even I think they should dial it back a bit. It looks really excessive for the load on the engine and it does soot the tubes pretty heavily. As they say....everything in moderation. :o)
