I just passed up buying a Kimber Micro 9 because of mag feed issue and the fix was to install Sig 938 mag’s which fixed the problem! Now I watched this and you added a Kimber mag to fix feed issues with your Sig. WTF

I’ve had mine for 7 years and it eats everything. I really think based on my experience it’s the mag. I’ve got 2 Sig mags and bought a third and it pops out sometimes when I shoot causing a stoppage. Other than that, I’ve had to loctite the guide rod, safety levers, and grip screws as these will loosen. I do see why people give up on them but I paid too much and just chose to keep it, work the bugs out of it and I’m glad I did. My EDC gun and it shoots flawlessly and accurate

Wow... I'm shocked to stumble across this review... I've had mine for years and years now. Infact it was my only gun for a while. I've fired thousands of rounds from the cheapest ammo I can get my hands to the pricey hollow points and I've never had even one round fail. 👍🏼

Mine runs great, my only issue is that the magazine release spring is rather weak and will eject the magazine if I run with the extended magazine when in my ankle holster.

Bought one a few years ago, love it now. Had one issue though, had to slam the mag in because the mag release spring was extremely tight, got it fixed, was an easy fix too, just switched it out with a looser full size 1911 spring and cut it down to fit🤷🏻‍♂️. Love it to this day😅

That is really crazy! I have a 938 and I am reticent to carry it. Mine ran good on FMJ but stuff like Hornady critical defense no-dice. It’s an expensive micro pistol to own and have it not run! I never thought it might be the magazine, that’s very interesting. I don’t have those Kimber mags but it would probably be worth trying one. So they are for the micro nine and one called an EVO? Definitely gonna try that. The 938 would be awesome for deep concealment if you could trust it. By the way, mine is really super accurate for what it is, that was surprising, also. Thanks for this tip, sir! Worth a go in my estimstion.

I bought a 938 that was a popular range rental for a few years. I won't bore you with all the things wrong with it but it had a failure similar to the one you described. I cleaned and replaced springs as needed and fixed the other problems. When the gun was cycling, as the new shell was lloaded, the shell beneath was pulled forward. When the gun tried to extract the shell, the shell that was forward interferred with the travel and the extractor pulled off the lip of the shell and the gun was jamed. Again I tried a lot of things and kept logs of the results. I did replace the extractor and its spring with a new one from Sig. I did not have any Kimber mags and frankly never thought of that. I tried to get a stronger extractof spring and was unable to find one. The gun still had 10 of more failes to cycle for each box of shells. I took the old extractor spring and stretched it a little less than 1/8 inch. The extractor was tought to reinstall with the extra spring pressure. According to my log, i now have had 950 rounds with no failures. That is a mix of range and critical defence ammunition. After, the 950, I shot 400 rounds of steel. It never failed but it did break the little tail off the extractor after about 200 rounds. I did replace the extractor and have shot 200 rounds or so with no failures. I decided that steel in these small guns was a stretch. I did find other fixes that fixed the cycle problem but they caused other unccceptable problems.

I have this same problem with mine. The second round is pushed forward when the first round is chambered, which causes all kinds of problems. When I eject the magazine the top round ejects from the magazine and falls down the well. When shooting get ftf constantly.

Here’s something crazy. My 938 malfunctions with Kimber mags due to the follower hanging up on the mag release but my Sig mags work OK. Sad thing is the Kimber mags are much more affordable than Sig mags. The 938 can be finicky in my opinion.

Funny that the Kimber mag was the fix. I had a Kimber Micro 9 that had the exact same issue you were having with this P938. And it’s the same when you search videos for the Micro 9. Tons of videos with failure to feed claims, and loads of comments in the video that say “I fed 1,000 rounds through mine and no problems!” I could shoot Winchester white box FMJ through the Kimber all day and though it wasn’t perfect, it didn’t have failures very often. As soon as I’d put any type of defensive round in it it would fire and failure to feed immediately. I’d fix it.. failure to feed. I shot more than a dozen types of ammo through and the only one it would run a whole mag without failures was Winchester FMJ. I talked to quite a few people and heard all sorts of advice. “Polish the feed ramp”, “make sure you’re holding it right”, and ironically, “these Kimber magazines have trouble. Try a magazine from a sig”. Nothing worked and after about 700 rounds I gave up and sold it. I really wanted it to work. It was comfortable to carry and I wish I could find a gun like this that didn’t have this sort of issue.. but after my experience with the Kimber and seeing all the problems that Sig owners have had with these, I’m of the mind that the only 1911 I’ll ever buy from here is a full sized.

Nice follow up. I can’t say it enough, I love this gun. Bought mine at a pawn shop, had the flush fit mag and 3 extended mags for $600, had the box and holster that I replaced but it was serviceable…all the normal stuff. So for a small 9mm made by Sig, I figured it was worth a roll of the dice. I’m typically a revolver man. Just a choice, I think they are sexier. But more often than not, I grab the p938 to go somewhere, and that says a lot. It’s just so easy to carry and shoots really well. 7 shots are really all I feel I’ll need and so it’s a good platform that is very much like a 1911. Just tiny

Check the magazine opening do they measure the same as the kimber? I had a couple extend mags where the top lips were pinched in at the front. Also on extended mags I had contact on the black extension peace at rear, hitting the heal of the mag well frame. Once cleared the mag would lock in to position much easier. O more feed problems. A shame what I thought was a higher level product has such problems. I am going to get a kimber mag asap.

Seems to be a common issue with these P938 and P238 guns. My P238 was having failure to feed issues periodically during the first 200 rounds with a couple types of ammo. I ended up polishing the feed ramp and giving it a good cleaning/oiling between range visits and it has become reliable since. I just bought a Springfield 911 mag and it fits just like the Sig unit, so I am going to test that out too. Also have a couple sets of Magguts springs/followers on the way to try.

I have had the same issues with my 938 and I believe the mag. follower springs have too much tension. Now that I have stored the mags full for a while, I seem to get fewer mis-feeds. I noticed from the start that the spring tension spread the mags open and cartridges would tumble a bit. For a while, I could not load a mag. with the slide open, fail every time. I am hoping my follower springs will relax a bit more...

I have the same gun with the same problems, and like you, I had little confidence in its reliability. The biggest issue I had with mine was with using the 7-round magazine. The magazine would almost always eject before it was finished causing a stoppage. Multiple shooters, grip variations etc. no matter, the 7-round magazine was the primary issue. The 6-round magazines didn’t have this problem. I also couldn’t use any ammo less than 124 gr bullet weight. As long as I used at least 124 gr FMJ or JHP and I stuck to the 6-round magazines I was fine. So in the end I went back to carrying my Kahr PM9. I like the idea of the P938 but not enough to trust mine.

@@gregshock Your comments got me thinking about the issues I’ve had with my 2013-vintage P938. One observation I could make was that the original 7-round magazines I bought (3) all have problems ejecting prematurely and by comparison I have 4 original 6-round magazines that work just fine. I like this gun; I want to make it work. Just upgrading the magazine release and spring (Gen II from Midwest Gun Works) did not fix my 7-round magazine problem. A couple of weeks ago I decided to try it again, and I bought a new 7-seven round magazine. What I noticed with the new magazine is that there are slight design differences in the current 7-round magazine. Most notably on the left side of the magazine (looking down range so to speak) there is a small dimple located on the top near the follower. There may be other changes not obvious to me. I guess my real point is this magazine works fine, no issues.

@@yellowboxster06: I hope you get your issues resolved. These little Sigs are really nice guns, if you don’t really mind running around with 6+1 bullets in your gun. I like the new higher cap micros, too, like the SP365 or the Taurus GX4, but most of the time, 7 rounds is enough and way better than nothing. Another thing. I read before that the early 938’s were sometimes problematic, whereas they worked out all the bugs from the later guns.

I have the Sig 938 and have never any problems with the pistol or the Sig mags. I like it when I need something really compact. I bought several Kimber mags because they were much more affordable and the work as well. Another pistol along the lines of the Sig 938 is the Smith and Wesson CSX in 9MM. I am going to purchase the S&W CSX, when I find one local, and if it is as reliable as my 938 I will carry the S&W to get more capacity (10 + 1 and 12 + 1). The S&W CSX may be worth a look. Had a 938 in fact I still do. It’s been in my rotation for several years. I tested it after well over a month of pocket carry in a holster and it ate a full load of federal hst hollow points with no issues at all. One thing I stress constantly is constant maintenance, I generally service my carry guns monthly or before extended storage. I also use small amounts of oil on mag followers. Do that and you’ll eliminate a number of things that can jam your gun

I still keep my 938 9mm will fit in any pocket and it was expensive at purchase but so were both my pistols mentioned. I am a firm believer in “You get what you pay for!” But this little Sig has been a great gun for me! I’d like to get a velcro ankle holster and carry as a backup will be my next purchase! I’m a Kimber man and wanted the Kimber Raptor Micro 9 to match my Kimber 1911 Pro Raptor ll in 45 acp but couldn’t justify paying ALL that money for basically the same pistol as my 938 with ONLY difference being SS and just Beautifully crafted as the Raptor 1911 & rest of their line of firearms.#Sig#938”Rosewood”#9mm#Micro

I have a 938. The issue I have is when I am firing the gun the magazine falls out. I thought it was the way I was holding it. Tried one handed and the magazine still fell out. One of the range officers thinks it could be the magazine release spring. He noticed as you eject the magazine it ejects rapidly. He said think about when there are bullets in the mag weighing it down. I will try the new heavy spring and if not just try the kimber mag. But yes, for a very expensive conceal gun its disappointing that we have to do any adjustments.

Mine was having a problem with the magazines coming out during firing. Or, if my pinky was wrapped under the magazine, it would pop out ever so slightly and the slide wouldn't pick up a round. Solution: New upgraded mag catch from Sig after they found and fixed this very common issue. They enlarged the shelf that the mag's catch slot rests on. I have yet to try Kimber mags yet, but it's so secure now that I imagine even promag magazines would work.

FYI: I had issues with another gun's magazines that was caused by the magazine's lip just touching the extractor. This prevented the slide going into battery. The gun is a Kahr CW45 with a Kimber magazine. Its lip was too high for the CW45's extractor to clear. By lightly sanding (200 grip paper) the lip, the magazine now totally clears the extractor. I notice on some 1911 slides, the extractor sits high on the slide where in other 1911 frames, the extractor sits low. This is the problem in using off brand magazines. Your description, however, is the opposite. The Kimber magazine works where the Sig doesn't. I'd check the Sig magazine for clearance when the extractor slides over the magazine. (I have a P238 and I'm currently leaning on getting a P938. I bought the P238 before the P938 was marketed by Sig, otherwise, I would have gotten the P938.)

If it makes you feel any better, in five years and 5000 rounds, I've never had a failure to feed. Though no feed issues, the plastic collar at the base of the 7rd mags became too easily displaced, preventing the mag from being locked in the well. Epoxy, and some add-on slam pads glued directly to the mag baseplates have fixed it. I haven't seen/heard a single review of the P938 mentioning the problem with the 7rd extension collar, but all three of my 7-rounders failed in the same way, after about 300 rounds through each, and it's a real death jam, as the mag has to be withdrawn, collar slipped up and off the top of the tube, then the mag can be reinserted.

I have had these problems constantly with this pistol. Strangely the only ammo I have never had any kind of feed problem with is aluminum cased ammo (federal)... Go figure. I want to try a Kimber micro 9 mag but noticed they are available in 6,7, and 8 round capacity. Which one fixed your feed problems or would any work? This gun, great on so many ways, has been nothing but a waste of money. If a Kimber mag can fix it I def want to try it asap... Would love to be able to trust this pistol enough to carry. Sending it back to sig was a total waste of time... Sig will never admit they have a defective gun. Thanks

I purchased the Kimber micro 9 8 round and just went through 75 rounds without a problem. So far it fixed this jammer

Now that you have an extended mag… You have a longer effective grip on this gun now with another finger around the grip. More stable/firm purchase than with fewer fingers on the shorter grip. Less grip/leverage could lead to somewhat of a limp wrist effect. Why didnt you use a Sig extended grip that most of these 938’s came with for your evaluation? I’ll bet you the 7 round Sig mags would give you better results just like the non-Sig mags did. How about doing Sig a solid and test their extended mags out? And, to eliminate the possibility that its just your technique, let someone else shoot a couple hundred rounds through it with the 6 round mags from Sig. I suspect that the results might surprise you.

Thanks. I have the same exact gun with the same problem and also sent to sig twice. It pisses me off that they know these have this issue and basically deny it and blame malfunctions on user error. I was just about to sell it but maybe I’ll try this first. Then again idk because I definitely don’t trust it anymore. I used to like Sig but anytime they respond to a gun issue it’s always in the form of denying the issue exists.they do it with the P320 as well. So I’m done with Sig.

Late review, but I have not had any problems with my P938 Equinox. I hav e on e flush standard mag and three Sig extended mags and have no malfunctions in well over 700 rounds. I pounded the hell out of this weapon in prep for the CCW qual every week for over a month without cleaning and lub, and it functioned without a single issue!

If you find my comment (from less than a half hour ago) on your original post, I suggested the possibility that the short grip on the P938 my create, effectively, a limp wrist; not because the wrist was limp, but because the missing pinky finger couldn't leverage the recoil. I suggested this because I am a very small individual with small hands, and my 938 works with both magazines, flawlessly. Your Kimber magazine (if I am correct, which would be a first...), since it is longer, permits you to have more leverage on the bottom of the grip. If you test both magazines (Sig and Kimber) with friends with small hands, you may find your solution there. I hope this works for you, because, from your description in this video, I think my conjecture was correct; your hands are too big to get purchase on the bottom of the grip frame, unless augmented by a longer magazine. Best wishes.

Have same problem. I’m a Glock guy, have many bought my first sig and nothing but disappointing. Cannot trust for carry. Not a single disappointment with my glocks , very frustrating to pay this much for a sub standard gun.

You can’t use just any Micro9 7-round mag. I bought a used, as-new, P938 that will not fire two consecutive rounds - ever. Semi-smokestack failures to eject. Inspired by your video I shopped online for a Micro9 mag and found none like yours that has 2 cutouts for the mag latch - one on each side of the mag. The only models I could find with extensive shopping have just one such cutout, located variously on one side or the other of the mag. Buy the wrong one and the mag cannot lock into place and will just drop out. If the mag swap doesn't work I'll just have to send the gun to Sig and hope for the best.

It's rumored that the first four years of production, the 9mm version of this gun used " 380 feed ramps".. I've no idea why a 380 feed ramp would be different than a 9mm , but this what's been said.. people with 938s after the 4th year seem to love their pistol. And those first 4 years are plagued with problems. The issue I have and why I won't own a new sig, is because of their garbage customer service and even worse quality control..
