We were trained to hold the sigmas very high at the front of the handle on a score and then you snap the tile on the back of the handle which provides leverage. The larger sigmas such as the 3a,3b4, etc all have a groove in the handle where you should be placing your fingers for the scoring part of the cut. This provided maximum scoring power, if you do not provide enough pressure on your first score you're snap will be effected. Great Video! I appreciate the time you took to make this! Happy tiling!

That Sigma is awesome, cuts like buttahhh! I have a Rubi and sometimes scoring long ways down a 24" porcelain tile, when I snap it, the tile does not cut straight, the cut line curves off of the score line, so then I have to take it to the wet saw to straighten it out to get the cut that should have scored and snapped. this has done this since day one. Rubi tech support told me to go buy a 5 wheel kit and try one of the other wheels, with some success, but issue still remains. Anyone else seen this issue?

But obviously you should buy this DIY for simple and little project, with time and jobs the professional brand will make the difference....

There's actually a massive difference between pull and push in terms of how much pressure you put on the scoring wheel. Push is way better in my opinion because of the mechanical advantage you have.

In my view they are the best cutters on the market, and a tip to keep it looking new and the bar sliding easily and freely for perfect cutting use silicone spray on the bar and other components to keep it running smoothly and efficiently, love your high quality and informative content. I would love to see how you feel after using Sigmia’s Max series. The problem I had when selecting a tile cracker is thinking the brands was the difference. I did my research and decided on sigma. The only problem was even the pro tile stores only carried the klick klock series. Once on the job site it did not meet expectations. It went back. Sigma has at least four levels with 6-8 different sizes per level. Not to mention different wheels for different materials. It’s really hard to put different brands head to head. My 4’ sigma max can crack down to 1/4” inch. Not that you’d ever really use it. My big thing is play in the handle and slop, sigma has none. I’d rather buy once and give it to my grand kids in 50 years.

Thanks for the video. After watching your video I bought a cheap tile cutter 1st, struggled with it. Dual rail system is flawed because of the flex. Sadly total waste of money (for me). Was not going to even start any work with it. Put it aside & went shopping.. got the Sigma ART2G (same model as this video) and difference is night and day. My take is this.. If you are saving on labour go buy yourself the Sigma. The cheap one will just waste your time, and be so much harder to work with. You don’t need this hassle.

@@bolerdweller So I've actually upgraded to a sigma since then, I managed to finish the bathroom I was doing as well but that's only because I also have a wet saw. I coudn't cut hard porcelain with the cheap cutter (the rails bend) and I could't make finished edge cuts. With the sigma I can give it a quick polish with a sanding stone and it can be installed in the middle of the floor! I agree, though, If you don't need finish edges or have a wet saw for that a cheap one can definitely be good enough!! I also didn't do any adjustments, I could see just tightening the wheel even making a big difference.

@@truecrimejungle yeah I've got a 3' sigma and another sigma similar to the video but a bit bigger. I can quite get them to snap hard porcelain properly, I also dont know how to set them up properly though height wise. I'm sure that's user error as I've seen what these snappers can do on here. Montolit is better, no need for adjust when tile thickness varies, it lubricates cutting wheel which increases wheel longevity and also score better, breaking foot has 2 options wider and slightly narrow etc.
@mr.wizeguy8995
@mr.wizeguy8995 5 жыл бұрын
@@mickymeltdown Yes and no, most cases i measure width of tile and use built-in scale so i don't need to look cut line at all. If i need tile that other end is wider it's better to mark pencil line near bottom edge of tile, because there is narrow metal ridge where tile rest so i just align my marks on that ridge and scoring wheel will be above it and cuts perfect piece again i didn't need to see where cutting wheel was. So yes it's hard if you try look scoring wheel but if you use that middle metal ridge as your guide it's easy.

You have your hand way up on the sigma handle you should have it down by cutting wheel. You get better control of power needed to score certain materials. That sigma will take off 3/8 of an inch off the edge of some materials. I don’t see the $20 cutter doing that.

Your high-gloss hard porcelain being cut on the sigma cracked unevenly on the handle end. You edited the video to immediately show a perfect cut and said "and again a very clean cut on the Sigma", but you missed a split second of the porcelain that broke/cracked on the end, (9:30sec mark). Why not be honest about this? Nice cutter though.

The problem with the cheaper version is they are more likely to get damaged in transit or on the job. Sigma’s can take a beating and still cut a straight line. Where as the cheaper version poles can be bent easily and will stop cutting straight.

ishii cutters were always great cutters. The video shows a sigma 2g they are around 200 they cut up to 14" tile straight a 3b4 cuts a 26". The cutters go up in price based on the type of scoring mechanism, Pulls tend to be less the push max and klick klocks are much more money but provide more breaking power. The 2g is a great cutter but with tile getting thicker the 6mm bar will struggle with some cuts. The 8mm bar and 10mm bar cutters provide much more power.
