For anyone that doesn't feel like digging through rosters and ban lists, the athlete Broderick is talking about is most likely Arley Méndez, who caught a brief ban in 2021 that ended 3 days before the competition. He competed in the 2019 Pan-Ams as an 89. Considering he went 1 for 6, I reckon the blood doping was a reach too far.

Out of curiosity wikipedia lists his weigh in weight as 81kg. I'm definitely open to Wikipedia being wrong but I don't know where to double check that. I'm leaning towards the possibility of Broderick being hyperbolic in the numbers given some of the other things I've heard him say.

All the rules and ethical lines are arbitrary, but this kind of cut is a step too far for me. Not sure why I don't mind lifters (and cyclists) juiced to the gills and then this is too fucked up even for me, but here we are. YMMV

Fascinating but totally fucked up. The focus should be on athletes' health. This kind of weight cut is more likely to kill an athlete than any use of anabolics. For discussion - go back to the old days when a lifter was reweighed after the comp to ensure they made bodyweight when they broke the record. Only test health markers and, subject to this, allow peds. Let's see the greatest lifting humans are capable of. Bring back Ilya!
