► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In June 2023 I hiked on the Lofoten Islands of Norway for 10 days. The Lofoten Islands, located in northern Norway about 130 kilometers (80 miles) above the Arctic Circle, form an archipelago in the Norwegian Sea. These islands stretch east-west direction in the Norwegian Sea across a total length of approximately 122 kilometers (76 miles).
These islands are characterized by their rugged mountain ranges that rise abruptly from the surrounding waters. About 80% of the islands' surface is covered by mountains.
On day 1 and 2 I hiked the Matmora ridge, day 3 to the frozen lake of Botnvatnet. On day 4 I made it to Vestvågøya island and hiked towards Leknes via Dalstuva where I camped on top of the mountain. On day 5 I watched the midnight sun above the clouds at 3am, and the next morning I hiked down to Konsfjordpollen to spend a night inside. On day 6 I started hiking on Moskenesøya and hiked to Ryten peak, Kvalvika beach and Horseidvika beach. On day 7 I hiked to Kjerkfjorden and took the ferry to Vindstad. I finished with climbing Hermannsdalstinden. On day 8 I got to Å, and spent the night next to Ågvatnet. On day 9 I climbed over a tricky pass to Gjerdvika and Turtnbakkvika beach where I spent the night. On day 10 I got back to Å.
For the full itinerary, including details about public transport, must-sees, my exact campsites, accomodation, flights, gpx-files, camping and weather, check out my travel guide: XXX
This is an ambient film without dialog.

I am almost 80 years of age. I miss hiking and exploring more than I can say. I have watched this video five times (so far) and found something new and fascinating each time. Harmen, you are a genius and an incredible photographer and videographer. There are no words to capture your work and your tenacity. Thank you for keeping me in the bigger world in a beautiful testimony to the power and grandeur of nature and places I will never actually see. Godspeed !

Nice to read. We all should be clear, that life is relatively short and we have to use our life time and fullfil all dreams, wishes and goals, whenever we have the chance, time and money to. Never postpone them until old age when it is impossible to do tings like traveling to the beautiful spots of the planet. I hope, you enjoyed your life and ride until now. Are there any advices from you to younger people?

Dear Harmen, it was your films, the way you presented beauty of nature and your courage what pushed me and inspired me get out of my shell and try backpacking out of UK. So when I found Long crossing Lofoten trail I wandered how comes to it that you didn't hike this trail yet. Now is over 7 months I'm planning this trip and I seen your post you done Lofoten I was super excited to see your film. Firstly because I knew that you will do your own trail and I will see Lofoten in its most beauty. Secondly because I will go by end of August hike from Moskenses to Svolvaer. So now each night I close my eyes I can see what is waiting for me from your footage. So beautiful so breath taking. You giving me so much courage and inspiration that I can make it. Thank you so much Harmen for your beautiful work. Lucy

Turquoise waters, snow, green mountains, beaches & plenty of unique campsites for you to show us -- above & below the clouds. I am speechless & will certainly have to watch this again. Thanks, Harmen. YOU ARE THE BEST!! Be safe in your travels. 🙋🏼‍♀️👍🏻🇺🇸

Greetings Harmen . All the gratitude and praise i have seen in the comments is well deserved . Well done . You have accomplished the impossible . You have brought real awe and rapture through the medium of tech . Skill , vision , art ... shamanic art . You are not just inspiring people you are healing people. You bring sacred silence , stillness , union and communion .... where language fails . I did solo hikes in the 70s and 80s - Yosemite [!] Iceland [all seasons] Mt Kinabaloo [Borneo] Mt Apo [Mindanao] , no phone, internet, gps etc , unbearable bliss [and horror/terror] . They still feeding me and made me rich . You are a rich man and you are sharing it . I have seen 6 of your films so far and each has made my heart swell . Thank you . bless . Love to you and good luck ...

I absolutely love this. On snowy mornings, my husband and I like to sit down with a cup of coffee and ease into our day watching your videos. This morning, I turned your Norway hike on in the background, and my kids ended up in the living room watching it, and we all had a beautiful start to our day together with gorgeous views, soothing music, and the wonder of God’s nature that you capture so beautifully with your lens. What jaw-dropping scenery. What amazing landscapes God made! This video will always be my favorite of your hikes. I adore the snapshots at the end, and the music you put with it always makes me want to cry. My family’s favorite part of all your videos is the Bible verse reference you put at the end. We always look it up together, and the one you put at the end of this video fits so beautifully. But KZfaq always cuts off the video a split second after the verse shows up on the screen, so we always have to rewind multiple times until we can catch it. Can you put the verse references in a couple seconds earlier so they don’t get cut off by KZfaq so quickly? We love how you give glory to God with all your hikes!!

Exquisitely filmed and edited. Those sunsets where the sun simply doesn't set ("the sun knoweth his going down", says that same psalm), the changes from dreamy drone flight to the close up actuality of (say) a tent guy rope or coffee being made, the tricks of deceiving scale.

I hope you get an agent and are able to create beautiful images in the advertising world. But do not let them influence you or limit your unique vision. I don't see any trendy filters or over saturation in your images. All of your images are very real, and you can see the honesty. You are painting with your vision and light. I have been to Lofoten. Drone footage, timelapse, closeups, flowers, cloud inversions, wildlife, audio, Harmen :), all gorgeous. Did you think the landscape and colours similar to your Scotland videos? I did. The sunlit pathway on the sea zooming backwards over your silhouette was a particular WOW moment. This whole experience was wonderful. Thank you so much. (Apropos "O Lord, how manifold are Thy works")

Thank you! Beautiful place indeed. I found it more mountainous and vivid than Scotland, but the latter is perhaps because I had terrible weather in Scotland (';

Im sure its been said before but the work your putting in for these shots is incredible, the amount of walking back for the camera must be huge but the shots you get are inspiring for a person whom also makes videos, your drone shots are mesmerizing and those side pan shots look so good, still trying to work how you do some of them :), congratulation on your success with this channel and may it continue to grow and rise

Grazie 🙏

This is so beautiful Harmen! Sometimes I question if I am passionate enough about making outdoor videos after seeing your films. But I guess it's a long road of learning that separates a content creator from a filmmaker ;) This is another masterpiece, you really reflected the atmosphere and beauty of the Lofoten through your lens. Incredible work.

Some fun facts about this trek you might enjoy: 0:00 It's rare that I have a intro in mind before starting the hike. I wanted to combine the aerial intro with hiking shots, so that when the film starts, you're already fully emerged in the trek. Hope you like it! 4:00 For those who noticed, this is only 1 of the 3 slider shots of this film. I've been modifying my slider to save weight, but the prototype didn't work as planned. More to come in the future! 6:03 No star timelapses for this trek, as the sun never set! But so happy how the sun timelapses turned out. The sun is at its lowest at 1am in this timelapse. 8:43 I pitched my tent here at 9pm, had dinner at 10:30pm. So much sunlight! 10:16 I woke up by the sound of the wind. The valley by now had filled with clouds creating this amazing scenery with sky islands. This was at 3am in the morning! 11:06 I knew the weather was gonna take a turn overnight, still I pitched my tent on top of the mountain. The views made it so worth it! 12:07 The main reason I slept inside for a night is that by now I was so sleep deprived. The never setting sun kept me awake far past bedtime, and the heat of the sun at 4am on my tent / the extreme winds woke me up early every night. I think I slept 11 hours that night. 14:32 These kind of soggy 'trails' are so typical of the Lofoten. 18:40 The only way to continue from here is by boat. There is no trail connecting to the next town. Real fun though. 19:19 Great example of 'most people are actually really really friendly'. You weren't allowed to stand on the front of the boat, to not block the skipper's view. I went into the wheelhouse to ask to take a picture. Long story short, the guy was very friendly, allowed me to set up my tripod and have me stand on the front of the boat for this shot. 20:13 Hermannsdalstinden, the tallest mountain of the (western) Lofoten. A real highlight of this trek. I was very lucky with the weather, no wind and no clouds! These shots were taken at 9:30pm. 22:47 The town of Å is the last town on the Lofoten islands. Å is the last letter in the Norwegian alphabet. 25:30 Very tricky mountain pass. To access the southwestern coastline, you have to cross over this pass. There is no other way getting to this remote 20km+ of coastline. There is basically no trail and the slopes are easily 45-50% up and down. Quite an exhausting bushwhack, but very gorgeous section of coast.

Thank you for this video. You capture the beauty of Lofoten in its natural way. Even though you are in the frame, you are not the protagonist. Nature is. Subdued music caps it off. You give way to what matters most in this video: landscape, nature, the elements. This is the first short movie of you I have seen. But I'm sure I'll check out many more. Your style is such a welcome diversion to all the flashy influencer videos that are taking over KZfaq and pretty much all of social media, kind of ruining the divinity of such beautiful places as Lofoten are.
