Please excuse the black borders on the sides. I´m playing this in a 16:10 resolution and the editing adds the black borders to make it fit a 16:9 fullscreen.
This is a Tutorial on how to plot an intercept course on the map.
The game is played with the amazing Wolves of Steel Mod that fixes most of the issues this game had and adds a ton of realistic features..

When dealing with a template on the map an easy way to mark a position , is to click on the pencil (were your map tools are) then find the spot you want to mark on the template, press E on the keyboard that gets rid of the template then you are free to mark the spot. Great video by the way

The more I play Silent Hunter 5, the better I get at eyeballing everything from torpedos to intercepting convoys. I no longer do any of that. I just eyeball it, park myself somwhere ahead, and wait listening on passive sonar. But the key is since those covoys change course alot, you actually do want to flank yourself up to that convoy as fast as you can, I notice you dont burn THAT much extra fuel, and since you will eventually launch all your torpedos anyway once you have a horizon full of targets, what does it matter as long as you can get home. As for calculating torpedo launches I nonger do that either, I just place myself ahead of the convoy by listening on the sonar once somewhere near the convoy, and determining what direction the convoy is, and where its headed. Get close moving on surface, running decks awashed since they have a hell of a harder time spotting you than you them doing so. Then sink to periscope once in convoys path, let them roll on top of me sitting quiet taking an occasional peek with the attack periscope just above the water surface. Yes the waves can be annoying but you are harder to spot than a periscope mast casing a huge shadow, and sticking up out of the water like a flagpole, also it is best not to be moving since even the periscope will create a white wake in the water. So sit still, peeking just above the surface, for no longer than 5 to 10 seconds then drop periscope. Let them get on top of you as close as possible to the middle of the first few boats, begin to move at half speed, full rudder, turning and launching torpedoes just ahead of all ships you can reach, preheated. Then immidiately sink down to 100 meters full speed in the direction of convoy heading, let destroyers group on your previous position, slowing to half speed, then slow, moving with convoy. Back up to periscope debth... rinse and repat. And don't tell eyepatch adams to go silent, cause your torpedoes stop loading, at a hundie meters down the sound won't go past the thermal layer anyway. Have fun. ;-)

Do you think that's how you support and help a content creator? By lying about an OBVIOUS technical flaw? Of course the voice volume was horrendous, anyone could notice it, and hopefully with the help of other people unlike you they eventually solved it. Excellent tutorial btw.

If you measured the range of 294km on your true bearing of 186 degrees from your own map position would that not show you where the convoy is around that area now?
@Tonci87
@Tonci87 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would show me where the convoy is right now, but I prefer to mark its position by using the Lat-Long coordinates :)

Are you still playing this game? I would love to see all this in action in form of a lets play. Not even with much commentary, or even better in form of logbook entries read out with the corrosponding action in the background. Like plotting a intercept course and talking about a new position report of a convoy had been send last hour ... Something like this because i am unable to find a letsplay that's real realistic . Most use the ruler to calculate distance.

I don’t understand why when your drawing the target and your own speed/range lines it’s 1kt = 1km. When in the speed over time tables it shows say (for ease of argument) 1 hr @ 10kt’s = 18.52km not 10km!?!

@@Tonci87 What he said is that he didn't understood where those 80km because of 8 Knots came from, for example. Why do you multiplies knots by ten? What does it stands for since the map uses Km ? In other words, what is behind this ratio of 8knots = 80km and 16knots=160km on the map? It doesn't match any entry in the speed over time table for sure so I don't get it at all too...
@mpi7111
@mpi7111 4 жыл бұрын
I had the same question. 1 kt is one nautical mile per hour and one nautical mile is 1.85 kilometers. I do not understand why the convoy at 8 kt speed after 10 hours of driving should have come 80 kilometers far. he would have gone 148 kilometers. or just 80 nautical miles

@taucher1205

@@mpi7111 The unit ( knt's or km) isn't much important. For intercept the convoi important is the ratio of my own speed and the speed of the convoi. In the case of the vid 2:1.

KZfaq can handle aspect ratios other than 16:9. You can just edit it in 16:10 and upload it. That way people watching with 16:10 monitors don't have a black rectangle all around the video.

Yes, that is unfortunately true. If I make my microphone louder however, the background static noise of the microphone gets louder as well. In newer videos I have lowered the ingame volume to put more focus on my voice. Please tell me if that is better. In the long run I will have to buy a better microphone.
