This comes as not much of a surprise to be honest. When departing the Norwegian U-boat pens, once you decide to leave, always give it some gas and gtfo of that harbour ASAP. Bergen frequently comes under air raid. Short but sweet, glad you’re alive to tell the tale.

I'd argue his run-in with the two Liberators near the Azores when he lost 5 crew, a diesel, and most of the rest of his boat, was more thrilling/terrifying/exciting since he was so far from port and had to make the long trek with such heavy damage. I thought it was going to be Patrol 7 2.0!

the exact same thing happened to me on leaving Bergen, it was B-17's though! I absolutely shit myself. I think it's a random scripted event. I managed to get out of Bergen though and eventually made it out into the atlantic after taking a load of damage from shallow water taking the southern route you pointed out.

The air raid siren legitimately made me jump. I thought Ol' Captain Wolfpack was gonna have to suffer a similar fate to the U-96 still at home! Good to see the boat is still above the water Wolfpack!

Oh wow! I really thought: "This is it. We are never going to live through this." What Luck that no one was killed. On the other hand it is so cool seeing the real historic problems of the Uboat Crews being represented ingame. That one was exciting for sure! I love that they've modelled Halifax's (the 4 engined bombers that attacked you) in game, but first time I saw them i was so impressed I pretty much let them sink me...

When I was stationed at Bergen with the XXI, these stupid air raids happen frequently when leaving dock. Best way to avoid is flank speed at periscope depth, or to wait it out with time compression.

@Jan-Ola Ellingsen : It was a very silly decision. Especially since Germany had a naval air force in WW1. It was a political decision - Goering didn't want a separate German naval air force, because he wouldn't be in charge of it if there was one.

Ouch. That could have been worse, certainly. Being caught in port... lethal. But, that's why Sub Pens existed, as you said. Amusing that the game would consider that a patrol, given that you didn't make it out of the harbor.

Thanks Wolfpack345 for this great series. This have been an awesome journey so far.! But why is it impossible to find somewhere or someone who can explain how to fix SH3 mode crash on win 10.? There is thousands of questions about this problem but not one single person who can make A to Z how to fix. A deasent video about how to install SH3 and Gwx mods and such and fix crashes in a modern win 10 would probably be the most viewed SH3 video ever. I just still have some hope... that someone will hear..

That was fucking intense. I saw the run time of the video and assumed the worst. What I like though is the randomness of the attack, like it was gonna happen anyway and you just happened to be there.

for a moment, when i saw it was 13 minutes, i thought this was it.... very unlucky to get caught out in that and to lose an engine before leaving port, cant wait for the next installment

does the game simulate the Normandy landings, will you lose access to french coastal base? Can you hang around the french coast on the d day and attack the invasion forces i wonder?

I don't know about the d-day invasion forces, but AFAIK the ports are dynamic and change during the entire course of the war, so yeah, he'll lose access to Lorient and all other french ports

Yes, you lose access to the ports depending on when they were captured - just like the whole map of Europe changes (cities change colors) according to real war outcome. I have no idea if you can attack the invasion force tho...

I think the GWX mod does simulate the D-Day landings, but it would be suicide for a big Type IXC boat to operate in the shallow English Channel. No Type IX's were assigned to Channel operations after 1939. Only 1 Type IX boat was sunk in the Channel throughout the entire war, and that was in October 1939.

Oh this is pretty cool. Ive been inside this game for more hrs that is healthy. The Ultimate Air Defens ist the U 7 with 3 Quad FLAKS on it. Then u Man 1 quad flak for yourself and give the other 2 to experienced and trained AA gunners. Then u use the AI to show you the nearest incoming targets and thats where u aim too. with 3 quad flaks firign at teh same target there is NO CHANCE that plane will make it even near you. Funfact in some cases the computer will keep sendign planes after you IF you dont dive. this way i shot down 23 Bombers in one patrol one time and got the iron cross for AIr defense for it ! Its some form of Luftwaffe Medal which is amazing since you are a submariner as u know.. (the air plane BAIT tactics with tripple quad flaks works BEST at night in the mediterranean Sea )

I do believe it was near misses from the bombers that damaged/destroyed things. You were straddled by bombs, and water doesn't compress. You were hit with a water hammer on both sides. Good kill on the plane though.

Indeed - but those bombs were not Tallboys, just regular bombs. The first Tallboy mission was on 8/9 June 1944, just after D-Day. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallboy_(bomb)

I love how they fire hundreds of thousands of flak rounds without reloading and the magazine sizes are only like 40 rounds

They do reload. The guns are also twins so it is 80 rounds in total. The reload takes around 12 seconds. (for twin 20mm) At 6:00 you can see they are reloading all 3 guns. Obviously there is no animation but that is why they stopped.
