They will also show you local sporting goods shops to purchase licenses and bait very close to the jetty.

Greg Hook we’d love to get after some up north. The old timers down on the jetty catch a 40 incher now and then. But that’s about it. They all taste delicious though!

I've been doing nothing but lake and river trout , bass , perch , bluegill fishing and so forth these past couple years. Hitting the coast for surf perch , Bass , rock fish and ling cod here in the next week or two. I'm literally only 1 hour away from the coast and am super excited to see what I can get.

That was me for a long time. It's really cool just to catch some of the crazy ocean fish and they all taste great! White flaky meat. We make a lot of fish tacos around here! And you can catch all of them from jettys. So many species that congregate there. Good luck to you!!

chonch burger nice eye, do you know anywhere that I could learn all the species of fish that are common to catch on a jetty, pier, or in the surf? Is there a website or something?

The hardest thing about jetty fishing in New Port are the rocks to navigate and not break one's leg. I'm too old to get close to the water there.

TheWard there’s a similar jetty down by Garibaldi, Barview Jetty that we fish, it’s very similar. Still big rocks, but much easier access. We catch sea bass and lingcod there using the same tactics. Just not usually as big of fish, but keepers. It’s where we recently filmed the newest crab snare video. You might check it out.

How is your weight not just rolling with the current?
@SilhouetteOutdoors
@SilhouetteOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
It does roll around a bit. But that’s good, because it will settle right on the edge of the big chunk rock, right where most of the fish are cruising looking for food

friend very good video a question the shrimp works or not and how do I get that bait that you are using
@SilhouetteOutdoors
@SilhouetteOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks you! The shrimp works really good on the kelp greenling and you have a chance at catching a bunch of other species including perch and sea bass. Jigs are the way to go for the sea bass. There are two tackle shops there in the harbor, one at the boat launch/Newport Marina right behind the Rogue Brewery and the other is Harry's Tackle across the bay on SW Bay Blvd. Harry's carries a ton of tackle and bait.

what’s the significance of the “breaker line” 10-20 meters away from the jetty rocks? What happens there?
@SilhouetteOutdoors
@SilhouetteOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
That break line is where the flat gravel bottom of the main channel meets the big rocks creating the base of the jetty. Predatory fish like sea bass and lingcod like to cruise that edge and ambush new bait coming into the the jetty. It also gives them a quick escape into the rocks as well from other predators such as seals and birds. Much less snags if you can land your rig on the gravel bottom close to the big rocks, and the fish can locate your bait much easier.

I'll be over there mid July. Never fished in the ocean before. Any idea what I'll have luck with and what fish will be hitting good at that time?
@SilhouetteOutdoors
@SilhouetteOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the sea bass and greenling are there. The spring seems to be better for lingcod. The cabezon season should be open as well. Do double check the oregon regs on that and size requirements. You can also fish for surf perch. I know the dungness crab are in as well. A friend of mine went out of Garibaldi last year mid july with a guide and caught more crab than they could eat!!

Can you catch salmon from the jetty with spoons?
@SilhouetteOutdoors

I have heard of guys using slip bobbers with herring and letting them drift way out with the outgoing tide when the salmon are running and doing well. But never heard of anyone catching them with spoons. Might be worth a try though.

@SilhouetteOutdoors
@SilhouetteOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
For the most part we used sand shrimp for the greenling and sea bass. We actually caught the ling cod on a whole greenling. It originally tried to eat one that my buddy was reeling in. You do have to count a greenling used for bait as part of your daily limit. But they are awesome bait!
