I'm so pleased to see Anna Nemzer on Silicon Curtain. Her podcast on Anna Politkovskaya was outstanding and very moving. It reminded me that whatever we think of Russian society, there are still Russians who are extraordinarily good and heroic.

Thanks Jonathan. Great, great choice for an interview. I have been watching Anna's outstanding 'Total Recall' series on the TV Rain channel. They are excellent. Anna is an insightful commentator and superb speaker. I know it is easy to say this with hindsight, but a big mistake by Russia (and Yeltsin) was to allow creatures of the Soviet security apparatus to hold positions of power after the fall of Communism. They might have been the most competent technically, but they would never allow a pluralistic or democratic system to emerge. Putin obsesses about 'unity' - as in one people, one empire, one leader. Anna makes a good observation that the cynical criminal Putin regime is based on lack of logic - any idea or policy is only for the purpose of keeping and expanding power, so can be changed or ditched at any time for that purpose. If truth does not exist for the Kremlin, then any lie is feasible and permissible. So, it is impossible to trust the Putin regime or reach any true modus vivendi. And of course the seeds of conspiracy theories (about responsibility for the war lying outside Russia) fall on earth that has been well fertilised in Russia for generations by prejudice and Marxism Leninism.

She is a delight, I hope you have introduced Anna from Russia to Anna from Ukraine. I know that they will both get much from a friendship. When Anna says she has no hope I completely understand. It is so frustrating to not be able to help. I feel so much angst. I want to reach out to her and console her. I don't know where she is, but she would be in danger if in Russia. In a couple of years, when a Bradly might arrive in Red Square on it's own steam, Anna must work with Anna to re-invent Russia in the image of young Russian's dreams. "Russia" will be managed from Kiev, (which pre-dates Moscow as a regional centre by hundreds of years), for 100 years. Let's face it, Putin has killed Russia again, and the Russian people need a break. What a nightmare it is. But, (now talking to Anna from Russia), there is always hope, yes, this will end. YOU must survive, keep your head down. Come to live in London if you are not already here. Or go to Ukraine, but I would do this later when the war is won. No thoughts of suicide. No, you are an absolute gem, a diamond. The world will be lost without people like you. What we now still call Russia will be lost without you. If you die, or were murdered, then I would be lost. I agree with a post I briefly read in these comments; you are an inspiration. Absolutely. You are a light in the darkness. Fink is ok, (joking here) but you are deeper, more integrated emotionally and intellectually, and, if you are Russian; consider yourself Russian, and if you also want to reform Russia, then you must join forces with Anna ("from Ukraine") as together, you are a light that allows me to see Putin's passing, and the waking of damaged, zombified Russians who will recognise their own dreams in your writings, and who will need your love and understanding. So. You must survive. Random bombs must be avoided, and you must NOT become a target for this narcissistic regime. [Narcissists are damaged individuals who must, one way or another, give themselves a feeling of worthiness by their "achievements", in the broadest sense of the word. Why? Because they do not feel a sense of self-worth by their own thoughts and feelings. This natural self-valuing function is the very thing that is broken.]

Thanks for hosting this illuminative duscussion. One of the things Anna raises is the challenge of maintaining hope in times these times. Perhaps she could take some comfort in words attributed to that great Russian storyteller, Anton Chekhov, who is quoted as working with the motto "without hope and without despair"(*) Keep plugging away Anna ✊ (* quote extracted from, "Raymond Carver - Dreams Are What You Wake Up From", Electric Cereal, KZfaq, 39:00min)

"Diaspora", like "mass migration" is a simple idea the manifestation of which is the movement of a population geographically, most likely to other states. The cultural reasons for diaspora can be complex, and just as is gloriously explained by the two cultural guardians above. Guardian angels. Thank you Jonathan for this wonderfully enlightening video.

Great Interview!! I remember listening to a lecture by Prof Tim Snyder from Oct 28, 2022, at Boston University about Genocide in Ukraine: "Genocide is underway. If we don't see it, the failure is ours." (on his substack) That was when truth smacks you in a way that is undeniable and you must face it. The ideology, the logic, the terrorism, the Russian playbook that was underway and the genocidal strategy was suddenly REAL. Every action Putin has done (either before or since) - I can see it. No amount of media manipulation changes (for me) that pure EVIL.

Finding hope is certainly difficult even as an onlooker from way “down under”, but it can stay solid when separating hope from all expectations no matter which direction the war goes. Then it becomes a decision, perhaps even a declaration like “ I stand for hope”. 🤔

What will happen to Russia. It us now a self-inflicted wound open and it will keep on bleeding. It can not be closed. There is a reckoning with the past that now is unavoidable. There is a carmic dept so deep since the eradication of Ukraine simmers since 1709. Nobody has been called to account for the millions that perished. The collective consciousness in Ukraine has now risen that this is the time. As the collective consciousness in Russia is broken as power and greed rains Supreme. There is no way back for present and future Russia as Putin is burning up its young generation, that perhaps may shape a. New area. The collective consciousness regarding life is like a umbrella that covers a nation. All positive thoughtforms for your nation in terms of your humanity and resposabilty to one another in every aspect of life. The dismantling of the Russia as it is now is the karma being enforced. Many people will perished and it will lost a while. I am a medium since 1985. Hold on to your hat. May long live Ukraine 🇺🇦
