You people, I’ve been a Dietrich fan for over 15 years and I understand everything Maria is talking about. People cannot accept that their idols are COMMON human beings and have flaws and usually Hollywood actors are narcissistic. No surprise at all for me. I read Maria’s book twice and she is WONDERFUL⭐️⭐️⭐️❗️❗️❗️ Genius writer ✍️

How much do you need to hear to know that Dietrich was a abusive mother. Beyond just being human.

@@Susieq26754 Marlene was a queen by birth. Her mother put her high on the pedestal, thus letting her first daughter Liesel know that Marie Magdalene was very special. In 1930 Hollywood director Josef von Sternberg fell in love with her and made her a star in Hollywood. So, in her life she was being spoiled by many people who mattered....

Having a child opens us to the judgment of that child, forever. every parent must accept that. But frankly this magnificent woman's life deserves to be seen from a perspective of some other than a child who is working out her own trauma. i grew up among the children of movies stars, yet I have never seen the bio of a male film star, portrayed from the narrow perspective.of a judgmental child. Obviously, her daughter has every right to her opinion, but her mother's life deserves a broader-minded biographer.

yes , you make a good point . Many many actors have not exactly been good parents or partners . I think what she did during WW2 with the army was incredible and she deserves a lot of credit for that .

Not to mention her role in "The Trials at Nuremberg" surrounded by some of the greatest cast one could ever be graced with...And Oh Boy did she Hold her own in it...What a Lady; What a Part...What a Great but Tragic Film...

I think she was better in that one than Judy Garland. Dietrich probably deserved a nomination...very nice downplaying.

Q9:45 not every star ignored family duties. Aside from Jayne Mansfield's buxom excesses, she was a good mother - famed daughter Mariska Hargitay of CSI confirms it.

Can you imagined she carryed the whole show until her 70's, and her legs started to stop functioning and that's what maid her retire from stage.
