Ok, this is a really cool technique that my father taught me back when I was but a teenager. A really cool technique you can use to remove a ceased up bolt without the use of heat. This can be used on many different types of jobs but I find it works best for getting a cut off bolt out of a sleeve in a rubber bushing.
I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me.

Great videos, I first met your father in 1973 , he was working for Marv Young in Brantford at the International Dealership . They had a small spring shop in one corner. Your father worked like a titan. Back in the good old days when men where men. Nice to see your just as tough. Be sure to say hello from David Donn .

well done! Nice to see that your father passed on his skills and that you took them to heart. don't see that much anymore. I taught my boys some essential skills to help them throughout their life's journey. basic home and auto repair to get you by when you don't have the money to hire it out or take it in to the shop. I really like your work ethic and energy you apply when tackeling a job. Thanks for sharing your mad skills with us shade tree guys who need some guidence every now and then. 👍✌

Nice tips! I just bought a project 1977 Datsun 620 and I'm doing my due diligence on everything I need to sort out for a frame-off restoration. My leaf spring bushings are all sitting haphazardly in what used to be "rubber" and I'm sure it will be a mighty long day of grumbling and sweating.

Excuse my ignorance but outside of needing to save the bushing what's the purpose of this if you already have new bushings is there a reason to care if you destroy the old bushing?

Any tip for removing a seized spring shackle pin from a hanger in situ,.. . ??? . without access of a hammer blow...
@simcoespring
@simcoespring Жыл бұрын
you need an air hammer, or air chisel and a torch. heat up the head of the bolt read hot real quickly and then let the heat penetrate into the bolt. hit with the air chisel. make sure that you leave the nut on the end of the bolt so you have something to "hang" onto the end of the air chisel. I have a video on it "how to remove leaf springs bolts using heat"

If its off the vehicle, why not use that 100 ton press? Or was this just to show a low tech way? Also, why do you cut the bushing outer, couldn't you just press it out as well?

Not necessarily. If you noticed that's the fixed end of the spring. The bushing would have enough flex to not be tore up.
