Wow what a great reaction. That's what I love about this song is that still inspires profound thinking even today. I think this came out in the late 1960s. Wow. An awful lot of wisdom packed into the things you had to say at the end, and really all the way through. Very thoughtful and insightful.

I'm always glad when I find a reactor who really gets it. You're wise beyond your years. Don't ever lose that. Please keep enjoying the music that I grew up listening to and apparently took for granted. I had no idea that music would change this much. I'm so glad that young people are still enjoying it for what it is.

I don't think any of us thought music would change as much as I did, but then again we should have knowing what our parents listening to and what we grew up with. I would give almost anything to go back in time but be older to appreciate the music more.

I enjoyed your thoughtful reaction. Obviously, they wrote this in the late 1960's, so they were referring to different events and symbols. But the meaning remains and you did a great job interpreting this from a modern-day perspective.

I'm 70 and heard this when it was released. It gladdens my heart to see someone as young as yourself react so positively. Paul Simon is a genius poet/songwriter and his collaboration with Art Garfunkel was sublime. American Tune, you must listen to that and consider how many years ago Paul Simon was writing these words.

Just FYI, this is the all-acoustic version from their first album, "Wednesday Morning 3 AM". The version that went to #1 and became legendary is the electrified version that Roy Hallee did in the studio -- same matchless harmonies, but a more edgy and bluesy instrumental backing. I bet you'd love that one even more. It's on their second album, Sounds of Silence.

Hey Skeez, since you love Simon & Garfunkel, I've got another group for you to check out. "Crosby, Stills, & Nash - Suite Judy Blue Eyes" These guys had some of the most iconic harmonies that you will ever hear. This is a folk rock 'supergroup" made up of singer-songwriters David Crosby, Steven Stills, and English singer-songwriter Graham Nash. All three born out of well-known groups that placed a premium on harmony, they each boasted impressive individual credentials before they joined forces. Crosby was with a the band the "Byrds" and Stills was a mainstay of the band "Buffalo Springs" and Nash was with the band the "Hollies". But, in 1969 they began their musical career with the debut album "Crosby, Stills, & Nash" This group has a massive collection and would be another fun rabbit hole. lovely reaction thanks for sharing

This song was released in 1965, some 58 years ago when Tik-Tok Twitter Texting couldn't even be imagined by anyone at the time. Doesn't mean your overall analysis isn't legit. 'People hearing without listening' is as true today as it was back then. True art, poetry, knows no time or generation. The power and beauty of these words still resonate. The line that gets every time is... ".. and the sign said the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls" chills.

Love your honest reaction! Spot on! I still own this original vinyl that I purchased with my hard earned babysitting money. Please watch and react to Disturbed’s studio video cover of this. When they released it in 2015, 51 years after the original, Paul Simon contacted them and said they now owned it. I get goosebumps every time and I’ve listened to it over a hundred times. I’ve subscribed to you, because I think you’re intuitive. Hope to see you reaction to it. I promise you, you’ll be blown away. Going to watch some of your other reactions

@@patticrichton1135 The original is the original and beautiful, one of my favorites. Paul Simon contacted Disturbed after their performance live on Conan O’Brien in 2016 and told them they now owned the song. He posted it on all his social media. Last month there was a TV special honoring Paul Simon. The last song he performed was this one. He no longer performs it as a poppy folk song of the 60s area. Not quite Disturbed’s version, no grit, but beautiful, slower with studied feeling. I still have my original vinyl copy of Simon & Garfunkel’s first album with this song, which was their first real hit.

Thanks for picking up on the media connection, but especially cell phones. Simon seems to have written the song about people being sucked in by the media and believing that what they see there is true. But even though this was written before cell phones, it applies perfectly. I belong to a small religious group, and when we have meetings, often as soon as people arrive they whip out their phones and bury themselves in them. There are real people right there, but they'd rather commune with their screen. I'm afraid of what this is doing to society. People act like phones connect people, but they're separating us, breaking the bonds of human contact. How can we agree or civilly disagree with others if we ignore them, replacing them with "the neon God?" "The Sound of Silence" is more relevant now that it was when it was first written. Thank you for noticing that. If even one person sees the danger because you identified it, you'll have served a great purpose.
