Watch the new, extended tiny house tour: • Living Simply in a Tin...
Welcome to my tiny house in Orlando, Florida where I live simply and sustainably! I built this tiny house along with friends for under $1,500, with nearly 100% secondhand and repurposed materials and while creating near zero waste- just 30 pounds of trash!
This setup allows me to live simply so that I can dedicate my time to the service of others and the earth. It also serves as a demonstration site for those who desire to live simply and sustainably.
In this tour I show you the inside of my tiny 100 square foot house, my outdoor kitchen with greywater, my rainwater shower and rainwater collection system, my closed loop compost toilet, my garden and more!
I wanted to keep this video somewhat short, but will have more videos to come.
(UPDATE: Watch the extended tour here: • Living Simply in a Tin... )
I have created an FAQ to answer most every question that has arisen about my tiny house. You can read that at www.robingreenfield.org/tinyho...
To learn about the build and more details you can watch this video and read this guide: robingreenfield.org/tinyhouseb...

Finally......All of these tiny homes I see are like 50k. Crazy!!!! I paid 55k for my house (which, granted, is only 950 sq ft....but GEEZ). I am SO VERY PROUD of what you are doing. It is totally an awesome idea. Stop feeding this culture we are so wrapped up in of debt and consumerism. Work together with us "old" folks who got wrapped up in that crap and have spent our whole lives digging our way out of it.....but today can find a "win win" situation with this younger generation. This is just brilliant. I am so enamored by your ingenuity ....but more so by how can I help my kids to understand this? I know....I am late in the game. Always had a garden, yatta, yatta,.... but over the last few years realizing just how important it is to be self-sustaining, canning those veges, catching rain water..... HELL ... I am even considering putting in a composting toilet at my house (and I really love your idea....but I live in KY.....which weather stinks much of the time.....) ..... and I know I am rambling on and on....but for some crazy reason I came across your video. I LOVE IT. My plans are to travel full time, and granted I have thought what the heck...that adds gas usage, that adds emissions, etc. etc. But I think ultimately (of course) I will find my little place somewhere out there to settle down and have a sustainable place. I just found a notebook from years ago......the first page was "Living OFF Grid VS Traveling full time". Gosh I Love both so much. And have never had the money to do much traveling. I am grateful for what I have done, but only been a weekend warrior for many years. Now I want to go a little further than my neighboring states and see as much as I can. But there is this HUGE part of me that wants to buy some property and live off grid. THANK YOU....THANK YOU...THANK YOU for living life as you do and sharing it with others. What more can I say.

I’m in Missouri and so w/such harsh winters, my tiny house (10 x 20) is designed mostly for the kitchen space. It will have a small bed and very little storage..just two 4’ lofts at either end. I say “will” because its being delivered in Sept and this is Aug. I just ordered mine. Mine is on-grid but we are teaching ourselves solar. We each have our own small storage shed, there’s an outhouse that I adore that doubles as our library and the old camper we were staying in is being converted into the craft house. Now a second family is moving onto the 17-acre nature preserve and we hope more in the future. One day we want an interactive walking trail all around the forest. Your place is very inspirational!! Thank you for being an amazing inspiration! Me and my family are aiming towards minimalist sustainable life in harmony with nature but often we have doubts how to do it - like if we shouldn´t move to a warmer climate, change diet or look for other ways how to get food (like more foraging) and thanks to people like you the path will be much easier! Keep doing what you do :)

Hello Rob, I grew in a farmer family. When I was a child we used dry toilet for years. We didn't use saw dust to cover poop, instead, we used ash. We had plenty of ash because we burned straw, grass and tree branches for cooking. We didn't dilute when we store pee, we only dilute it when we water the plants. We use toilet paper. Boys use tree leaves occasionally only because being on the wild. Dry toilet attracted lots of flies and mosquitoes. Rainwater is dirty and poisonous. We used well water, and collected water from springs and streams in the rocks for drinking, cooking, washing and irrigating.

You are the reason I live somewhat sustainably in my dad's side yard. I built a tiny house out of mostly new materials, but I got the wood that others wouldn't buy at lowes (I used to work there) and collected a bunch that would be discounted or thrown away and built my 32SQ FT tiny house here in pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I run it all off solar, minus the heater, and in the summer, I have a small garden and leave my door and window open! I don't have AC but I don't care! You have changed the way I live Rob, and I thank you for your wonderful ideas!

Hi Rob, thank you for the tour. I know a simple trick to cook in an even more sustainable way. It works for the kind of foods that need cooking for over a few minutes, mostly in boiling water (like soups, potatoes, etc.). When it boils you let it boil for about a minute, then you put it in your bed, tucked in nice and warm. So it stays hot, it will continue the cooking process, without any heat source.
