Here's a simple hip drill that shows you how to move your hips in the downswing and into the follow through. The more hips you use in your swing, the more distance you will gain.
Pick Up Free Samples of The Body Swing here: bodyswing.com/freesamples/
So many golfers are just hitting with the arms when they swing. This can be from not realizing they have to use their hips, they might not know how to use them or they are just hitting with the arms. In order to hit the ball longer with your driver golf you need to be powering your swing with your legs and hips.
This hip drill gets you learning how to use them. Once you know how, then you can start trying to power your swing with them instead of just hitting with your arms. This drill drill can be done at home. at the range or even when you play so start to do it as soon as you can.
The more you do this hip drill the more distance you will get because you will finally be using your body to hit the ball instead of just your arms.

I know this video is three years old but just wanted to thank you for the tip. I've been driving the ball poorly lately and that's caused me to keep trying different things, which has made it worse because my swing has become different on every swing with the driver. Trying what you showed in your video really helped get the ball in the fairways today. It didn't go far, because I purposely slowed everything down and wasn't getting very good contact consistently (I'm sure that will come). It was just refreshing to walk down the fairway to my ball today rather than looking for it in the rough. I need more practice with this, but it's a great start! I will DEFINITELY watch more of your videos. I really like your instruction. It's down to earth without the crap that many others do on KZfaq, like promising things that are unlikely going to happen, or claiming they have the cheat code, and other gimmicks. Thanks again, Paul.

Paul I can’t thank you enough. You’ve basically been my personal golf instructor through youtube for the past week 🤣. I had an extremely arm-dominated swing & was constantly hitting left & right for almost a year. Decided last week that I had to fix it before the summer time. I started by incorporating your loose wrists technique which was a GAME CHANGER. Once I got comfortable with that, I got the hips more involved. The impact has felt so much better without even trying. The less I try, the father it goes! Just like you said. Seriously, couldn’t be more thankful that you are giving these tips and drills for free. Terrific lessons sir! Thanks a ton 🙏

I grew up swinging exclusively with my arms and didn't use my body at all. I'm getting back into golf this year after 5+ years of not touching a club and despite being able to make solid consistent contact swinging with exclusively my arms I know for a fact that I'm not getting anywhere near the yardage I'm capable of. No joke, after 2 range sessions of working on implementing just this tip I've already gained 20-30 yards of carry on my driver and I still have so much I can improve on. A little scary trying to rework my swing mid season but now my swing has never felt so fluid and easy after taking my arms out of the equation. Totally worth it so far. Thanks Paul!

I have fixed countless people who took a break from golf get their swing back. It's easy because they have used their body in the past. Take the break and you start hitting with the arms (which will never work). I just need to get them to loosen the wrists and use their body again to power the swing. Watch this first to understand why taking a break lost your swing: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNt_fdunxJiWeJ8.html Work on this first: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g55ma7SkudKrpGg.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ppqmdLaetODPgJs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hJOeerBn3rSbaWQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r651qZp4nsCZXWQ.html Get the ball hooking and loose the wrists. Once you can do that you then start firing the lower body harder/quicker/faster to straighten it out. Not sure what your downswing trigger is but something in your legs and hips you use to hit the ball. This is the easiest trigger: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMqgm9eZqLedhoE.html As you do this there is timing between the release and the legs and hips so you need to watch this to learn exactly how hard you need to fire your hips: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLKjnqqqnNjZnKM.html This is literally days or a week or two of work maximum to get it back. Keep me posted.

It's taken me years of trying to improve to finally come to the realization that the hips really do need to initiate the downswing sequence. I way always under the impression that everything needed to move totally in sync from the top, and as a result my hips were always square instead of open at impact. You really do need to get those hips turning to initiate the swing. It makes a tremendous difference in clubhead speed, smash factor, and dispersion. Great lesson.

Glad you liked it. Not sure why you wouldn't think the hips don't power the swing. Just a different way to do it though which you need to get used to and keep doing until you get good at it. Well, I have been analyzing golfers who have come to me for lessons for 30 years now. For at least the first 10 years I would think what are they thinking as I say what I say. Do this for that long and you know what they are going to do before they do it. Funny how people bash me. What they don't realize is, I don't guess what is going to work and how the person is going to learn it.

Thanks! I got this tip from a pro today and hadnt even been thinking about it. You’re 100% right that I was one of those using mainly arms and still playing well. Adding hips straightened the ball out as I was pushing the ball to the right before fairly consistently. Not sure why, but the ball goes straighter with hip motion.

Very good. You need to watch the Fix Your Own Swing section of The Body Swing and learn the 2 drills. These allow you to fix any almost all flaws in golf. Turning the arms off complete fix the other 2. So pushes would say you are firing the lower too hard relative to the timing of the release. So you can either slow down or speed up the release. You hook 10 in a row feeling the arms and purposely releasing it. Once you can do that your release is too fast so you start adding body to straighten it out. Here is the tip I did on this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLKjnqqqnNjZnKM.html Remember, the whole point of how I teach is so you can do this without me. Wouldn't that be great? Well, the answers are all in The Body Swing.

Coming closer...to perfect timing for a full bodyswing-release by this drill. Thanks for the explanation. It helps along together with the drills a lot! Played in a tounament yesterday and hit my w7 a couple of times >220m (before studying the bodyswing for 10 days now, my average was 120m with max. distance approx. 140m). Thats possible due to plenty of practice indoors every day...yet the success and progess is so much fun. Now my average distance increased to 155m. That said: I am a woman ;)

Excellent drill tip, Paul. As long as I’ve been using your swing (13 years), I still do constant battle with the hip turn. My tendency is to stall out on the downswing and just slide my hips a bit instead of turn them. If I make the hip turn my only swing thought I can do it, but if I’m thinking about something else, I’ll stall out every time. Ah well, nobody ever said this game is easy... 😡
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
So why are you thinking about anything else. You need to hit the top then be thinking of the touch the legs position. The upper will uncoil on its down. The only think you really need to do is work on hinging and rehinging your wrists so they are loose. Once you get that in no way are you thinking about arms. So see it clearly and focus on this position. Remember, the position gives you feedback. Your swing is not over until you get this feedback. Point B so look for the feedback on every real and practice swing from this point forward.

Thanks Paul, I needed that. I’ve had the powerless arms and loose wrists thing down for years, but as I’ve gotten older (I’m 75) my equilibrium just isn’t what it used to be. I can no longer finish on my back toe; if I do I’ll fall over. At the finish I have to have more of that back foot down than just the tip-toe, and that makes the touch-the-legs position difficult for me. I think my brain knows that and tries to stop me from doing anything on the through swing that will cause me to lose my balance. You’ll see when you get there, but at some point as you age you just have to do what your body will let you do. It’s all good; I still walk the golf course and on most days hit some really, really good golf shots. I’ve had my days in the sun with this swing, so in my twilight years I’m content to just get out there and play, enjoy the game and not worry too much if I can’t make a proper hip turn...🤪

Hi Paul, I just happened to be searching for some tips on hip turning and came across your video. Definitely gives me a good focal point to work with. I’ve been working on turning my hips faster, in order to strike the ball better. And it definitely takes consistent, repetitive practice to get that muscle memory or habit going. I’m 57 and the hips don’t turn as fast or easily as they use to. I’m pretty aggressive with turning the hips to get them there, but then it really puts a strain on my lower back. (Old back injuries with bad disks). But I’ve sucked it up because, HEY, it’s golf. Lol. When I get to the range this week I’m going to try out your tip/method to see if it gets me more fluid instead of aggressively rotating them. Aside from that, any good stretching moves to help the hips and lower back? Thanks in advance and keep up the great teaching. 👍🏼🏌🏿‍♂️

Hi Paul this video is fantastic and deserves millions of hits. I use to think of using my gluteal muscles pulling my lead hip out of the way to start my downswing. Since that did not work for me I am now starting my downswing with a pushing motion altogether with all the joints and bones below my belly button. I try not to deliberately feel I am pulling anything in my body as my muscles can only supply the pulling power and energy for my entire golf swing. The only thing I might feel is the lagging of my club pulling my hands back until we both equalize ourselves briefly at the moment of impact to the ball.

This is a drill. I am standing up to do the drill. In the swing you are tilted. The only way your hips would swing horizontally is if you are standing up (which you are not). It is up to you. Quick hips is vital. You can use the ground or not. If you are just using the hips this doesn't mean you are going to do it flat footed. I do it a little too (especially with driver). I have worked on it but still do it. I probably hit 80% - 90% fairways so is that really going to make any difference to my game? Plus, when I have worked on it I get this tilted swing which hurts my back. I have tried many different things to fix it but no I don't care about it (there are tons of old school pros who do this too). You can work on this position: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsWgeZqpkrWniIk.html Another fix that helped me is to make sure the left cheek is turning at impact. So set up a camera and turn your hips making sure you see this cheek at impact. Not a sliver of it. You need to see a lot of it from down the line. Try this but really I would be working on this if you already have a half decent swing. If your swing needs work, there are more important things to be working on. Get the swing meaning: loose hinge and rehinge, powering the swing with the lower body with the arms turned off. Maintaining spine angle.

Okay, just figured an easy solution at the range today. Give this a try and let me know if it fixes you. Then I will test on others and see if it works. Here is what I did. I checked out old video of my swing. No real early extension. Back then I did a way taller set up. So I was working on getting back to my old set up. Not sure why I didn't see it but I have been overhanging my toe line a little. As soon as I did and hit shots the EE was gone with irons and almost gone with driver. So think about it. EE has you lifting up. What would you do if you were too tilted at setup? You would want to stand up. What if you stood up at set up so it felt like in order to hit the ball you would have to go down. So low = tall and tall = low. So as you set up go down like you are sliding down inside a cylinder. Hands up high to accommodate it. Should feel weird and very tall. Now hit a ball. In order to do so you will have to lower because you are already standing up. Give this a try and let me know how you do. Really looking for a super simple fix to help people doing this.

@@paulwilsongolf makes sense. So less knee bend therefore less torso tilt at address. I've heard some instructors say it allows you to intuitively "go get the ground" in translation. So you get a natural squat (without tyring--your mind knows what to do). I'll try this tomorrow after work. I'll let you know how it works. Tall=low.

A little unlocking of the knees. It's really the upper body that you want taller. So lift your club up as you stand in a taller set up. Let me know how you do.

@@paulwilsongolf ok Paul, put it into play on the range today. As expected, it felt really awkward. Results were mixed. Went back to half speed swings and pause at the top swings and hit several really compressed balls. I'll have to work on it for several sessions but I feel it was a positive start. Full speed swings were way out of balance and finishes were not good. Could not touch shaft to back of head. However, when I went half speed and paused at the top of backswing, the finishes were much better and close to in balance. I'll keep you posted.

In your swing instructions you do not move your hips until shoulders move hands over your left leg. By thinking of only moving your hips at the start of your swing may it cause spinning out of your hips? The swing take less than 1.4 seconds…the thoughts of different parts of your body would cause a position approach to golf which can ruin a free swing.
