Man am I glad I stumbled into this. Why, well, small engine maintenance is obviously a concern for all. However, the tedious review of manuals does make this, with warranty issues, predominately to extradite the manufacturer due to "MAINTENANCE ISSUES" well, this guy has answered my point of inquiry. I have various equipment ranging from yard, tillers to chippers. Professional, years of chain saw use cutting line for surveys. So, yes, nearing retirement and costs are a concern. My wife, head gardener of the estate and yes, my current survival, noted: Previously she noted, she could cut the back yard, side access, front lounge and also the town street property interface. The latter will always be in contention I presume, as that be no man's land it is subject to frontage? Anyway, long story, which I thought short as I fond key aspects in video that confirms I am on right track, but actually noted things I can add. As typing this, wife came in, quite the gardener and, as noted sent me on a quest to ascertain why the changes in fuel consumption. This is why I have this long dialog. Maintenance. That is the start. Fuel and filter. Carburetor. Air filter. Spark plug. This is where the significance of this video hit home. Yes, due to pandemic we neglected our routines. I always use above octane rating for my equipment. Hmm... were we duped? Hope not. So, what could cause diminished cutting and fuel ratio cut by about 25%. All I can think of is the blades. And due to pandemic and weather statistical results do not reflect reasoning. Points observed. Brought to attention. Distribution, feel free to covey. Why? Well, currently we have but one planet, If there are issues with this planets current residents it would be wise to embrace and unit. J wish you Luck

There are a gazillion of these types of videos on you-tube but this one is done very, very well. I particularly enjoyed your comment about fuel treatments. I never use them. At the end of each season I run them dry so there's no fuel left. Never had an issue. Good job man.

+Bill B. Thank you. That comment comes from many years of working on small engines. I've never understood why you would spend $5-$6 to treat a $1’s worth of fuel. Much better to run it out or drain it dry and start fresh next season. This was the first video I made with a new quicker pace, and I'm still working to improve and find the right balance. Thanks for watching, and I hope you'll stick around. 🦅

I use a bit of the blue Stabil and Marvel Mystery Oil, but to each his own.... BTW, if you live near a Wawa, they sell ethanol-free gas which makes it handy to get. I live in Florida and used to have constant problems with my mower until I was told the problem is the ethanol in the gas attracts the horrific humidity we have here and ruins the gas. Anyone not using ethanol-free gas is just begging for problems...

Thanks. Got a problem getting it started. Drained gas tank. Dropped carb bowl and cleaned it. New plug. Getting a new air filter, yes the old plug was very black. Starts and runs with the filter off and my gloved finger over the air intake. Stops when I take my finger away. Hopefully the air filter will help even though I do vacuum it after leaf grinding season. Honda GCV 160.

If it runs on starting fluid, you're getting spark and air, and it has compression. The only thing left is fuel. Ensure there is no water in the tank or carb and the fuel is fresh. Confirm there is fuel getting from the tank to the carb. You should be able to check both of these by loosening the bowl nut and letting the fuel drain out. Check the bowl to ensure it has no dents that could impede the float's movement. I know you said the carb has recently been cleaned but... If everything above checks out, there's not much else left to point at other than the carb.

Hey great job and video. Quick question, is the bolt pattern the same on Honda GVC 160 and a Briggs and Stratton vertical shaft engine for mounting it on deck?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 2 ай бұрын
Yes, generally the bolt patterns are the same on similar sized engines from different manufacturers.

Thank you, very informative. Just wondering why a Honda GCV160 won’t start when it’s hot. I did all the tune-up items you recommended, I removed the carburetor and cleaned it thoroughly including the fuel line filter. It starts first pull and stays running for an entire tank of gas. But, if I stop the engine to empty the grass bag, it won’t restart. I’m thinking the spark plug wire or ignition coil is bad. Would you agree? Thank you.
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 3 жыл бұрын
+George Ian, I would check the valve clearance and make sure the fuel tank is venting correctly. If you've had the carb off, I'll assume the air filter is already clean. There is a slight chance it could be coil-related, but I would check for spark before changing parts. If it's getting spark but still won't start try spraying some starting fluid or a small shot of gas directly into the carb. If it still doesn't fire, I would check valves and compression. It's just a process of elimination. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching. 🦅🇺🇸

My lawnmower is sputtering a bit. the RPM,s go up and down and I smell a little bit of a not well burned gas. What would be the cause of that?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 3 жыл бұрын
Could be a few things, make sure you start with fresh gas (30 days old or less) Check your air filter, make sure carbs not leaking, if it has a primer bulb make sure it's not cracked. If it has a chioke make sure it's opened all the way after the engine starts. Replace the soark plug. If all of that checks out good then pull the carb and clean it or replace it.

So the link you provided for the replacement blade, it comes with two blades, whenever you replace it, does one install both blades!?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 3 жыл бұрын
+Alex Diaz Yes, that is a set that needs to be installed as a pair. Most of the Honda-powered mowers utilize this dual-blade configuration for mulching. Yours may have a different setup depending on whether it's set up for mulching, bagging, or discharge. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching. 🦅
