I made this simple landscape soap using orange and pink clay for the sun embed & mountains and titanium dioxide for the white sky. It’s scented with an essential oil blend of lavender, bergamot, & geranium. Thank you so much for watching! - Holly :)

🟥 DISCLAIMER: I make these videos to share my own personal methods and techniques for how I make cold process soap. These videos are not intended as tutorials for beginners. The content I create is intended for those who already have an understanding of cold process soap making. Cold process soapmaking involves working with sodium hydroxide (NaOH, also referred to as lye). Lye and raw soap can permanently damage your eyes and burn your skin. When making soap, you should already know and practice lye safe handling procedures and always wear safety gear during the entire soapmaking process, even while cleaning up. I hope you find watching my videos helpful or entertaining. However, due to all the many variables that can affect a particular batch of soap, if you do try any of my methods or techniques that I use in my videos, I cannot be held liable or responsible for your results.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m a *bit* impatient!😂😂 Love that you used lard. I'm a brand new soap maker and I'm so confused about the oven process. I've only made three batches though. I have always wrapped my molds in towels and just stuck them in a closet to harden enough to cut them. Being that the time of oven use seems the same time, or even longer, what is the reason for choosing oven over towel wrapping? (I am genuinely just curious because I'm new. I want to learn all of the things so I have a lot of silly questions. ;) ) This video is sooooooooooooooo therapeutic to watch! One day I will get to embeds.

I love this soap, a very modern landscape In my opinion. It is a very beautiful soap and I'm sure it smells amazing. I always love to watch your videos, I also love your accent it's so melodious. Could beef Tallow be used in the same weight as Lard? I'm from Australia.
@hollysoapmaking
@hollysoapmaking 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Your kind comment about my accent just made my day! I've actually never used beef tallow in soapmaking, but I've read it will make the soap slightly harder and more bubbly than lard does. However, since this recipe is 50-50 (hard to liquid oils) and the lard is only at 20%, I think it would probably be fine. I'm not sure how it will affect the trace or the time it takes for each layer to set up. I would run it through a soap calculator just to make sure the soap quality numbers (hardness, bubbles, moisturizing, etc) aren't too different. If you try it, let me know how it goes!

Great video Holly thank you. I have a question. If you have to wait 30 minutes between each pour, how do you keep the un-poured batter from setting up?
@hollysoapmaking
@hollysoapmaking 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You want to only mix the oils and lye enough to divide the batter into the different portions. If you initially blend to emulsion or farther, then, yes, the portions could (probably will) thicken up on you. You could just initially stir by hand to get the oils and lye mixed, but I usually pulse the blender a couple of times just to make sure it's evenly distributed before dividing it up. Hope this helps!

@hollysoapmaking
@hollysoapmaking 3 жыл бұрын
Not dumb at all. I drew the design out to scale on graph paper, used a ruler for all the measurements, and then calculated the area of each section. The percentages ended up being very close to 40% for the white sky and 60% for the orange layers.

Hi. When I started, I only blended the oils and lye enough to divide into the separate parts. I didn't blend to emulsion or trace, so I was able to wait. If I had initially blended to emulsion or light trace, it wouldn't have worked. Hope this helps! :)

I always include it in my main recipe. I just tell the soap calculator my preferred superfat percentage (in this case it was 5%), and it calculates the sodium hydroxide based on that percentage.
