So refreshing to come upon a video that delivers fully. I appreciate your method of getting right down to business and not coming off like a robotic psychopath. The video is easy on the eyes, not overproduced and over edited. The title doesn't lie. The thumbnail let's you know it's not a spray method. It's perfect. Not selling, not bloviating. Perfect.

I'm impressed with this simple method. I've got a "finished" area of 18"X18" to do (among others) fixing up my home. It looks like "less splatter is better" so when you knock it down, you don't get too much flat surface. (You can always add more splatter later if more plateau is needed)

Excellent technique and an even better video! Awesome. Thank you for getting right down to the business and then following the video all the way through painting so we could see the final result. I've got a 5"x5" patch in my ceiling I am going to fix up tonight. Thanks again!

Laughed out loud watching this video Ben, hilarious and I know I’ll end up using this technique sometime. Of course in western Canada we generally only need to do this on ceilings, but what a great trick.

that is amazing!! the last time i repaired a 5" by 5" hole in the wall it took me about 45 minutes to dig out the hopper, power up the air compressor and lay down plastic for only about 4 seconds of spraying with the hopper gun. I will certainly try this next time.

I learned to Texture 30 years ago similar to this I use a brush that’s shaped like an iron dip in Texture use a 1 or 2 inch knife to flick Texture on wall the harder you flick it the finer the texture I can do knockdown or orange peel but this method is messy you can also use a broom. Or maybe like he said just buy the can😁

When using the “USG brush method” to apply mud for texturing, it’s important that the mud be the right consistency. I think mine was too thick. Most of it ended up not being shot forward onto the wall by the brush’s bristles, but adhering to my fingers, then plopping onto the floor. (This was confusing and frustrating, because that’s not what was on the USG video. (I hadn’t yet discovered Vancouver Carpenter.)) However, I did end up with a nice amount of the really small bits of mud (stardust-like sprinkles) hitting the wall. To get the larger blobs of mud on the wall, I went “pre-schooler” on it, dipping my fingertips into the mud and tapping the wall randomly to create bigger blotches of mud of various sizes. I then knocked it all down with the knife. It looked pretty darn good. I was happy and proud of myself for improvising my way to a good result. ;)

Thanks for sharing. I love this channel and was excited to see you using the same USG method. I've used this method a few times for small to medium size patches. I've heard that adding some latex or Floetrol to the mud can help the texture. I haven't tried that yet. I'm not sure how well it will knock down. Have you ever added anything (glue, latex, etc) to the mud when texturing? I have a 3 x 4 foot patch to texture soon. So I'm going to do some practicing on spare sheetrock ahead of time.

Any advice for matching the texture of a normal painted wall (no knockdown or other intentional texturing)? I fixed some cracks in a ceiling. I was hoping that the texture would look the same after priming the whole ceiling, but the patched areas still look a lot more smooth than the old painted areas.

It looks great. A brush did that? I actually have to do a bigger part on my new wall. It's 48" x 48". Do you recommend I buy the spray since you mentioned the spray was better? And roughly, how long did you wait before knocking the mud down? I watched your other videos but I'm still considering what way to go. There's this powered Wagner texture sprayer that looks promising. Have you ever used it? I mean, we wouldn't need an air compressor.

80 percent of the people cannot or do not care enough to pick out spots that have been patched. If it is even close its good. Drywallers, painters, and plasters are far too critical. They tend to point out their mistakes when most of us cant see them or do not care.
