In today's video on Paul Peck Drywall TV, I'm going to show you an amazing trick to match knockdown texture on a ceiling repair with the knockdown texture sponge. After I repaired the failing tape joint at the giant vaulted ceiling drywall seam, I was ready to apply an all purpose joint compound to match the knockdown texture on this drywall tape repair using the knockdown texture sponge by the Texture Master, a 6" drywall taping knife, 14" mud pan and a 24" acrylic knockdown paddle. I was able to pretty much perfectly match the knockdown texture without have to use a hopper or specialty texture rig. Watch the whole video for yourself and see the amazing results. This diy knockdown texture repair tool is perfect for matching a wall or ceiling repair for a do it yourselfer.
#PaulPeck #knockdowntexture #ceilingrepair
Let me know if you have a wall or ceiling texture to match?
Feel free to ask any questions about my knockdown texture matching technique in this video?
Thanks so much for watching! -Paul

I'm more of a jack of all trades kinda guy & lately I've been trying a style like this to fix the bad habit I have of rushing the job . Knocking texture down too soon ending up with smooth areas , creating more work in the long run . Glad I came across your channel , reinforces my confidence in being able to fix my screw-ups . I've always thought that what makes a good craftsman is somebody that can fix his own mistakes .thank you. I love learning other trades ,being a floor installer for over 50 years .retirement is fun when keep working at things that you Don't have to do !

Before you knock it down, would that be the proper way to do the ceilings if they look like that? I can’t find a video on when it looks like it was just sprayed on and left alone.

Omg! All I could say is you rule! This is by far the easiest and most inexpensive way to repair a knockdown ceiling you just saved me so much money I was getting ready to go out and buy a hopper gone that would be such a waste of money because I’ll never use it after this repair is done you’re the best!!!!

I only wish more people would do videos in the format that you have yours is completely explain from beginning to end thorough as thorough could be there’s no question about what the result is as long as the person that’s doing the job is following it the way you do it and again I’m truly grateful you just taught me something that I thought I had figured out already put an easier way to do it and save me money so thank you again and God bless you

This is a good informative video! If you don't want to go thru thinning down regular joint compound, there are premixed texture compounds available or dry powders to mix. You may consider using texture compound as the knock-down finish will match the existing texture better.

Liked and subscribed! I started a handyman business last year and this has been one of the hardest aspects. I turn down drywall repairs because they can be tricky! I can build doors and cabinets, but the subtleties of drywall still elude me. Lol. I just picked up a sponge from Michael's that I hope will do the trick for now. Practicing on a friend's ceiling. I have a hopper but don't want to use it on a 6" x 6" repair, and that canned crap was just that - absolute crap. I already tried it and it's a no go!!! Thanks for these great videos. Awesome work.

Its not overly difficult, but it takes a good eye to match as close as possible previous texture. Knockdown however, is much simpler to match than an orange peel texture. Not to belittle his work in any way mind you. Everything in the trades takes some amount of time to do it right and make it look good

This technique will not work for popcorn. For popcorn I recommend that you go to Lowe's and look for the homeowner popcorn stuff. It doesn't require a hopper or anything and will give u good popcorn. Ultimately though, your best bet is to just sand/scrape the popcorns off and skim coat a couple times. Often you're better off just doing the little extra work to make the ceiling flat

I had 2 drywall company’s ghost me after they estimated our hurricane IAN damages, a $2500 ceilings and wall repair job, never showed, never called, After calling 8 more companies that were at least honest and said they are not taking on any new jobs, I found Drywall Paul the mud wizard and did the job myself! I did the seam tape, skim coats and sponge knockdown with the lexan spreader! What great videos and techniques!!! Do you have a patreon link? I owe you man? Can’t thank you enough!!
