Unfortunately I'm here trying to figure out how to get my elderly dad back in his C5. He gifted me his car recently because he just can't get in and out of it anymore with his painfully old knees and back. His Corvette is flawless so I'll care for it as he did. Gonna do my best to keep her running perfectly for another 20 years.

When I get into my Corvette, I put my butt towards the seat and my right leg into the floorboard, I then grab the pillar and lower myself into the seat. This prevents the twisting as you describe. I then grab my left leg and pull it up. The pillar can handle the weight of my body just fine and I'm not touching the steering wheel either.

Simple yet like everything C&S it’s effective

I am 72 and my C5 has been my only car (DD) since 2000. I am 6-foot/230 lbs/lower back issues. I get in my C5 by just sitting back into the seat as you demonstrate, but I just use the metal door latch loop to put some of my weight on (vs the ledge which is lower)... works for me without the separate handle.

Awesome! I just developed sore knees playing basketball a few week ago with my youngest son, so this product will definitely help until those swelling issues heal up. My car is on a slanted driveway so my car is actually 1" off the ground when I get out and it's also in a tight spot. If others have this problem, you can also stick your left leg out as far as possible for better balance; only after you do your slide to the left like Lyle demonstrated for you in this video. By the way, Lyle is 6'11", so if he can do it, we can as well. I recommend some to give you a helping hand. Sort of like a lineman helping his running back get off the ground. I'm lucky...as soon as my wife hears that car coming, she hops out of the house to help me get out of the car first and then grab those goodies I brought home.

Unfortunately, if you need a walker, your Corvette driving days are over :( keep up the good work, Lyle

As someone with a c5. This car is definitely not for anyone with existing back problems because even in my mid 20s i still grunt and let out a "ah fuck" everytime i get in/out.

Great idea. I have another that works for this old guy. I stand facing forward. Bend a little putting right foot in and left hand on door sill next to seat. Your hand holds you weight and just move right in. Exiting turn towards left. Left foot out at the same time left hand on door sill pushing up and out. Your way seems simpler but this works well for me.

this reminds me of a story a guy told me after I was lured to stop and chat after seeing his classic vet up on a short work riser in his open garage, about how how he bought a brand new C5, and why he sold it shortly after purchase. . He said his parking space at work was tilted so that if he didn't park in the right direction, he couldn't get out of his new car.
