We finish the outdoor chicken run and build an equipment room to house the batteries and inverter from our original solar system. The chicken coop now has power for the next stage of this project!

Yeah! Several folks I follow don’t give their chickens such care. Such as not cleaning water bowls or not putting straw or shavings in the nests etc. irritating! It’s nice to see cared for chickens. They were so cute lined up and peeking out from the new see thru area of their run! Now heat? SWEET

One suggestion.... You may want to add a screen to both your battery box air input vent hole and the PVC vent pipe to keep the small critters out of your battery box. They love to munch on the electrical insulation. Great Video!

Same here. The only issue I've had is after 5 years now, they've begun to crack at the screws and my little overhang breaks very easily with snow. But even if they need replacing on the 6th year, I think it's still a good material to use.

If you two ever decide to take it easy, you can teach on-line classes on about a million subjects, and you would be doing the world a favor. A hands-on class with you could be the adventure of lifetime for some lucky person - and they could bunk in the chicken coop for the duration of the class. Yes, one can daydream about such things.

My two pennies worth. You could incorporate your bee hives into the chicken house, taking Advantage of the warmth you have there, the bees wouldn't go out, nothing much for them, but they would potentially survive better. You could set them up so you can access the bees from the inside. They do something similar in Europe as a bee house, but without the chickens. Your benefit would be double use of the heat. Cheers

Restore, reuse, recycle were the three R ‘s taught to our children in the 80’s. Nice to see this continues. The Brits call it up~cycling. Your sub. numbers are creeping way up!! 25:56 My first greenhouse had these panels and the snow always slid off no matter if it was just a few hrs of sunlight. I am sure these chickens feel like they are in a spa. Might I suggest getting a thermostat for the chicken run that shows highs and lows throughout 24 hrs. I’m just interested to see how warm the panel end will be. I doubt that end will ever have the ground freeze solid. Great build on the solar and utility room in the coop. Being organized is time saving. I’m astonished at how hands on you both have become since moving to Alaska. I remember you driving up through Canada in winter weather to your first place. Always grateful to see the most current video. ❤❤🇨🇦

Glad to see you were able to repurpose your old solar system, this should enable you to give your feathered babies a more comfortable environment during the short days of winter. You may want to vent the lower part of your battery enclosure as close to the floor as you can and to the outside as the hydrogen sulfide gas the flooded batteried generates is heavier than air and tends to accumulate to the lower areas.

A suggestion on the battery box vent pipe some type of Insect proof mesh to stop the bugs i.e wasps, ants & fly's in spring/summer. Do sooner rather than latter because you could forget & one day in summer you open the box to check the batteries and discover a large wasp nest inside the box. 🐝🐝🐝🐜🕷
