I made this since I’m from ba I used cane sugar and it came out with brown spots lol next time I will use regular sugar and I put it in fridge after. Good job best fiji foods video out there.

I hope it tasted good. As long as you mix in the color properly, there shouldn’t be many lumps (usually where the white or brown spots happen).

Thanks so much, we used to have a Fijian Indian grocer called Moshims in Whanganui here in New Zealand. They closed down and i was never able to find burfi quite the same ever again. But this recipe is literally the same delicious taste ive been searching 15 years for ❤ Thanks so much. I used Pink food coloring only because they didnt have yellow at the supermarket. How do i add coconut to the recipe? Do i use coconut milk and dessicated coconut in the recipe? Again, thank you so much 🙏❤

Thank you so much for the feedback! I personally haven’t tried this with coconut, but I bet you could sub half the milk powder with desiccated coconut and it would work! 🩵

I haven’t but i add cardamom powder to this sometimes. I changes the flavor to the more traditional barfi 💛

@@SBLtasteoffiji So I tried it with the coconut, I only used a quarter of a cup but still two cups of milk powder. I added an extra tablespoon of Ghee and another tablespoon of cream but the mix was a bit dry. The sides of the barfi were a tad crumbly but once I cut them away, my goodness the coconut tasted so good mixed in with your recipe ☺️ I should have listened to your instructions and fully subbed some of the milk powder for coconut, at least I know to listen carefully next time haha. I've been using pink food coloring and it comes out quite well. Looks pretty with the hundreds and thousands 😂

@@SBLtasteoffiji Hey there's another recipe that's kind of similar to Barfi except it's very soft, white and rolled into balls. It's got a smoother texture than barfi but I can't remember the name of it. I know it's Fijian Indian because I don't really like the barfi from other Indian people. Fijian Indian has the best, I also love your guys chicken kadhai and roti. Do you have a nice simple chicken kadhai recipe? I'm probably spelling it wrong

Great recipe! I’d love to try for my child’s Eid celebration next week. Just a question, how did you make your heavy cream ? The one we buy from the store looks different from the one you use.

I used the store bought one that you have to whip up yourself. Typically comes in a carton here in the US. It’s also known as heavy whipping cream or double cream in some areas. Let me know if that helps :)

Condensed milk wouldn’t work here, but if you have any other type of cream (unsweetened) then you can use it. The higher the fat content, the better.

It’s a small 6”x8” dish by Pyrex. I recommend doubling the recipe once you have it down 😆 it won’t last long!

Hi! Thank you for your continued support! You can use any liquid full cream milk but I highly recommend heavy cream since it’s high in fat content. It definitely adds to the melt in your mouth texture!

Love all your recipes❤ I just have one question though. What will be the sugar syrup measurement if you used 1kg powdered milk.

Thank you! My regular barfi recipe uses 450 grams of powdered milk and twice the amount of sugar syrup as this one so I think it’s safe to assume 4 times the amount called for on this recipe should be enough for 1000 grams.

Besides heavy whipping cream what else can we use. How much water nd sugar for paag. What is the measurement for the dry milk nd ghee.

There is a linked recipe that gives you all the measurements. You can use any liquid milk with the recipe, but it won’t be as decadent as whipping or heavy cream. The higher the fat content in the milk, the better.

Thank you ♥️ you’ll need approximately 225 grams of milk powder. And a cup of sugar is a about 200 grams. I haven’t measured these by weight myself though so these are estimates. I can weigh them out next time im in the kitchen if it’ll help.

What if you can’t find heavy whipped cream. I can only find cream and whip cream?

You don’t need to whip it. Just the unwhipped heavy cream (otherwise known as double cream) or even regular liquid cream is fine. The higher the fat content the better.

I haven’t had the barfi there so I won’t be able to recreate it. I can make a chocolate barfi recipe but I’m not sure if it will be like theirs. Would you be able to provide some details about it? Is it close to Fiji barfi with a chocolate flavor? I’d love to help recreate it.

You can use regular cream (half & half in the US). Full fat liquid milk will work too, but it won’t be as rich and buttery. Heavy whipping cream is called double cream in some countries.

You can but the yellow barfi in Fiji doesn’t typically have any spices. That’s why I didn’t add it.
