Dragging up interests only works for me if I put on Boolprop in neighbourhood view. Unless your game is different you might want to mention that. Elder biker gang lol! Kind of looks that way.

I've always had the suspicion that sims 4 is more geared towards building and creating sims and not so much on any meaningful gameplay.

@@lengoloi so true because I spends hours in CAS and like having fun customizing my sims. But when I get into gameplay I get bored so easily and just shut off my computer after spending a few minutes playing it.

When playing as the Aspir family, I prefer adoption. So Victor can have more kids and spend more time with them while Elizabeth can focuse on her career.

The ‘half-assery’ is the reason I have never enjoyed any Maxis hoods other than the base game ones! Detailed storylines are where it’s at!

Agreed! These expansion 'hoods need some help! But I quite enjoy them when I fix the issues. (They will never be as good as the first three, though).

@@PleasantSims lol I agree and I have never played the sims 2 (I grew up with 3 and now am on 4, for the sims 4 I am re doing everything lots of sims 2 sims are back I also made bella not in the household, I also kinda updated the family like how Justine Keaton from the sims 3 is pregnant in line I made her and Marty adults and they have 2 daughters, a grandson, and a cat, which in the sims 3 base game it's just Justine and Marty, and I am gonna add in the Pleasants (yeah lilith and Angela are in discover university but imma delete them then make new ones) Also Mary-Sue left Daniel, and found out that she really wanted to own a restaurant and make the best food to make people happy)

Same! I didn't have all of the packs back then, but from the expansions I did have I only really liked the neighborhood that came with apartment life (i dont know what it is called in English) bc, well, apartments.. the storylines really didnt do it for me :(

I love this 'hood. Once you fix it up, it's really fun to play. There's a lot of potential for drama - especially between the Bell/Aspir Family.

What’s with Maxis and their need to create these strange cube houses with oddly placed, puny windows and roofs so steep you could use them as ski slopes?

Desiderata Valley is generally one of my favorite neighborhoods. It's perfect for a little break from Pleasantview. I played in this neighborhood many times and I've noticed some other fun facts such as: - Pauline Aspir and Daniel Bell already have chosen their lifetime wish even though they're still kids. Daniel wants to reach top level at the Entertainment career, and Pauline - at Dance. - Luis technically has already finished his aspiration. He wants to reach the top level in Architecture career and he already did that (he retired at level 10). I usually give him permament platinum aspiration because he doesn't have it at the beginning. - There is an alternative way to play John Mole. At the beginnings of my games, he usually rolls a want to gain logic skill (he is closer than further to do that) and he is standing next to his telescope. When he gains a logic skill using the telescope, Luis Aspir will appear on the lot and he will be angry at John (for me, it fits, because Luis in his bio has written, that he doesn't understand John's strange character, so basically they don't like each other) - Sophia and Violet Jocque, and also Jessica Picaso have broken face templates, that's why I usually don't make Jocques to have more children. That's it. Great video as always :)

Jessica Picaso has a broken face? In my game I made her have 4 children but before doing that I used Sim Surgery with SimPE (did the same with the kids), is my game save or not? Hahahahah

I wonder if Opal and her son are both in to sports so when they autonomously play football etc together they get enjoyment whilst bonding. I prefer your process of changing the true hobbies though it makes much more sense!

Well, it doesn't have an official play order. This is just my order - and I do it alphabetically. Lol. This one is more about the gameplay ideas and how to fix the 'hood due to Maxis' mistakes.

I only ever played Desiderata Valley once: I loaded up the Contrary family, got Rick and Violet together, then there was a thunderstorm which lit their tree on fire, but of course the rain stopped, and the fire spread all throughout the lot, and eventually it burned the whole family to death while Violet was just standing outside, watching without betting an eyelid. This also somehow caused the entire lot and family to get corrupted.

I love that idea for Natasha! I always always change her primary aspiration and give her grilled cheese as a secondary. I just can't stand to play her otherwise with a wants-based system. 🙈

Makes me wish maxis gave us some tools to create scripted events with Free time or something. So then I can finally make my medieval hood and my modern variant of it have zooms, have scripted events, and I can have people do LOAD ORDERS

I like this hood...but maxis got lazier and lazier with each hood. Always drove me crazy....especiallly before I knew how to adjust everything. And don't get me started on the houses! Hahaha. I hope someday you play this hood 😊❤

The worst thing about Desiderata Valley, in my opinion, isthe lack of a defining 'style'. You can't really tell where it's supposed to be or if it's a little town, a suburb... maybe that's why they went with a unified urban theme with the last expansion.

I always leave the sports hobby at the Contrary household. Rick could bond with his mom playing ball together and than he has something in common with Violet :)

First thing; the old man welcome wagon? Best thing ever! That made me laugh. I want these old biker dudes in my sim neighborhood! I have only played a little bit in this hood then never went back. I will say when I did play John Mole got abducted by aliens...and had Twins! It was fun and I love my alien babies, but considering the size of his house? Not so great trying to find places for everything. My biggest complaint with the Freetime/hobby stuff is that way too many of my sims OTH is either sports or games. (Ugh!) I have been doing a prosperity challenge and I have about 144 sims in that neighborhood and probably almost half of them are sports and games! I went through and counted them up once but I'm not sure where that's at right now. I have the risky woohoo mod, too. I really wanted it because I figure if I have a female romance sim that wants to sleep with every man around she should suffer the consequences of those actions. I also turn the chimes off because I like to be surprised. These videos have been very good and give me some ideas if I ever decide to go back to some of them and actually play them.

When it comes to the Aspir family, I picture Victor having an affair with someone to get more children. Perfect way to do that is hiring a maid...which they can easily afford if Luis wishes for money (which he would be successful due to the platinum aspiration). Ashlee Couderc almost always ends up being the maid and she's a pretty blonde like Elizabeth. Even if Elizabeth got pregnant I feel like she would have a car to still go to work even as pregnant.

In my game, he's got more chemistry with Hannah Bell than with Elizabeth so I'm going to pursue that option. They make more sense as a couple to be honest, I think that's what Maxis were getting at. It looks like a writing mistake but I'm going to argue it was a deliberate choice x

I did the exact same pairing of Natasha and Julien. With him being a cook and her liking grilled cheese, it just made sense! I also didn't know you could change the pitch of the roofs, haha! I have just put up with ugly roofs. I guess I won't have to now.

I LOVE the Bell family. They're definitely my favorites in this neighborhood. I usually have Sharon and Isaac have an affair because that's what I consider a "critical disturbance" as alluded to in her bio. Also it seems that every time I have them try for baby to satisfy Hannah's want I have a hard time getting her pregnant. I've always headcanoned that she's supposed to have fertility issues and makes the whole situation more sad but she got pregnant immediately for you. I also don't make the Contrarys or the Joques have more kids because most middle aged adults with teen children don't do that. John Mole and his elderly biker friends are fun, I loved that part of the video. This time in my desiderata valley he started building robots for fun including a lot of sentry bots because he seems kind of paranoid to me. He 's currently romancing a servo that he built and I think they're engaged.

In my gameplay rules, if a Sim tries for baby three times and doesn't get pregnant, I consider her infertile and then she can adopt to satisfy her want for children. But Hannah usually gets pregnant right away for me! I love the idea of John romancing a servo. Seems so fitting! Lol

I always have John get abducted by aliens too, he along with some of the other families in this hood are boring so I like adding as many aliens as possible! And I think the genie lamp in the Aspir household is to maybe suggest that Luis should resurrect his wife.

This was a great explanation! I never knew that the hobbies were screwed up like that, that would bother me too. I agree with the other comments, it would be nice to have some scripted events, but i love to see your take and the direction you go in!

Thanks Sarah! Yeah, I wish there were more direction with this 'hood. As I play through them all, you can see Maxis just getting lazier and more half-ass as they go. Pleasantview was amazing, then Strangetown was really good, Veronaville was pretty good, Riverblossom Hills had the locked wants (which sucks but it's something), and then we have this....LOL

Actually in the Contrary household the fact that opal and her son's one true hobby was the same (sports) was supposed to be the thing that made them bond and better their relationship, that's why they had all these automatic interactions to play sports, so in their case I wouldn't have changed it

I never knew that These Hood and sims would be so interesting to play. I need to travel back in Time and hell my younger self Who like only played new created sims and Don Lothario and Nina Caliente. Now I really whish I had an old Windows PC just so I would play The other Hoods. I really like your videos and think a Lot of people See the half-assery hoods with new eyes because of them. I find those videos so interesting cus i never knew this as a kid! I often as a kid just made a new family or only played with Olive and Opelia cus i loved the challenge of keeping them alive from the ghosts. I NEVER knew that they half-assed those neighborhoods. :P I love your videos, they really help me alot and i learn alot of new information about the game!

Not sure how many other people would be into this but I'd love to see a little tutorial for the hobby system! I didn't have Freetime when I played Sims 2 as a kid so I feel like it's the pack I know least about and I'm definitely missing out on some cool features that I don't know are there. Love your videos, always interesting to learn about the way you play and switch between the premade families.

This video is great. Currently playing DV again (after a 3 month hiatus from Simming lol) and your ideas helped make this "boring" town a lot of fun. I've married Natasha with Julien and they own two businesses (Natasha's arts and crafts being a home business, Julien just bought a restaurant at the end of this round too). Edward Contrary had an alien baby, and there are two or three other alien babies in town, and there are like 3 werewolves, one of which is Opal Contrary. Also, Sharon Wirth likes married men. She has Isaac Bell and Matthew Picaso wrapped around her finger lol. I like these videos, they help spark inspiration if I'm not sure which way to play or what I want to do with the families! So thank you for these videos!

I think I once had John spy on the other families trough his telescope and he ended up alien pregnant and had a son he named sky. Also, Julian was gay in this playthrough and Natasha had seven kids with a very pretty townie with whom she also had three bolts (maybe I changed her aspiration, I don't remember). Also, Jessica and her husband got divorced and she had twins with Louis Aspair. Unfortunatelly, her son inherited her nose :D

No, there isn't. You can use any of the ones that were made for the basegame 'hoods but I like to use a custom one. There are some on MTS that are really good!

For Aspir family I made them another daughter and no drama haha, at Bells I also made daughter and when Hannah and Issac were quite older I made Issac and Sharon had an affair, Sharon ended up with Julien, they had son. Rick never improved his relationship with his parents he also move out when he became adult, he had twins with Violet but then he cheated on her with Natasha’s and John’s (so much younger than him) daughter and they got engaged. As I said John and Natasha had daughter who’s had baby with um Castor Nova from University but I made drama there that John made kinda conspiracy with some people and they killed Castor so his daughter hated him and moved out also(they lived in villa) a bit after John died and Natasha was broken about her daughter drama and John’s death that she died not long after John. I’m still playing here I’m already after 17 turn and keep going. Sorry for my English, I’m not native speaker but I love your videos Cindy❤️

Desiderata Valley was my favorite (or second favorite) neighborhood to play in Sims 2 because it was the only neighborhood my sister would let me play in her game.

I never think of them not putting effort into these families! I think we used to get so much in these games. I also feel that EA was pushing Maxis to get these expansions out quicker at this point. This was the pack we got the PC gift from Mr. Humble with the Sims 3. I feel once EA realized what kind of money could be made on Sims we began the track we see today. I believe they still tried to give us what we had gotten used to while meeting a deadline. I also feel I am ok that we still got neighborhoods and lore along with game depth. I do love your gameplay ideas! I have a great time watching your videos and I may mess with one of these if I can take time from from my Pleasantview saga! Lol

I love that in the sims 3 I have 3 expansion packs and in the sims 4 I've got 7 and yet my game in the sims 3 has so much more life personality and content than my game in the sims 4-

In my gameplay I started with Bell family, and they had a 2nd son named Aiden. Sharon had wohoo with mr. Mole, but he ended up with Natasha. Isaac and Sharon had an affair and Hannah saw them together then divorced with her husband. Elizabeth from Aspir family also divorced with her huband because of her career. She wanted to focuse on career only, so she lives now in small apartment alone, but is still friends with Victor. Both Hannah and Victor were singles and family sims, so I decided to get them happy life together with their kids from previous relationships. Pauline and Daniel are now step siblings in my game, so it'll be weird to pair them. I think Daniel will end up with Rick, because they both don't have gender preffrence at the start of the game. When it comes to other families, Natasha and John have a daughter named Bonnie. In Jocque family nothing changed tbh. In Contrary family Rick is romanticlly involved with some random townie to have some romance experience. When it comes to Sharon and Isaac, they are just roomates and friends with benefits.

Another great video Cindy. I’ve never played the premades in this neighbourhood so it was cool to see their stories. Just wondering, in your play style how much do you take sims fears into account? So if Victor has the want to have a baby and Elizabeth has the fear would you still make them try for baby? I’ve played this game since it came out and have just started trying it in your play style and it’s so much fun

I don't really take their fears into account at all - the only exception is birth control. If a female Sim has the fear of having a baby, I put her on birth control. Otherwise, I just let their fears exist and they may or may not realize them through the course of their lives.

I had no idea that Victor's first kiss was with Hannah and that Elizabeth's was with Issac! How interesting! Also, I feel like I am the odd one out but I always loved this neighborhood! I also always placed Matthew and Jessica Picaso in Pleasantview but recently found out they were added were freetime!

I use to have this glitch in the sims 2 where every time in Desiderata Valley when I made a new family with a toddler (she's a Pisces if it matters), and no matter what her one true hobby always ended up being science the minute she played with the match the block toy. I re installed TS2 a few months ago after solely playing TS4 (what a shock to my system lemme tell you), and maybe because it wasn't in desiderata (idr tbh), but her one true hobby didn't end up being science and ngl I was a little bummed :/ might need to look into the blender mod tho....

What I do with this hood is add the Kim Family (the bin family with a house including), and the Traveller family since there’s not a lot of kids and I add the shopping district Bluewatter Village
