Absolutely gorgeous, perfectly paced piece of music which really gets under my skin (in a good way). A technicality, but can anyone tell me whether this is the original version of 1903 or the 1942 re-working?

The Adagio (2nd movement) is an original from 1903. Only the 4th movement with a soprano voice was composed by my great-great-aunt in 1942. See also the complete symphony with all 4 movements. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJmPrNVjvq7IYKs.html

@@Klavicus Thanks! Does that mean that the original symphony have a different Fourth Movement, or that there wasn't one at all before 1942? By the way, this symphony is just gorgeous - it's weird that it hasn't really got much traction sofar.

@@bomcabedal my great-grandaunt Mathilde composed the symphony in 1903 and sent the sheet music to a competition in Prog. Unfortunately, the symphony was never performed during Mathilde's lifetime. She had never heard them. I can't say exactly whether she only composed the fourth movement in 1942. I guess -yes- because she was already old and sick. She was a strict Catholic and believed in God. In the lyrics of her hymn she describes her impending death as passing through a great gate into eternity. Please send me your email address and I will send you the text in the original German and English translation.
