IMO, you've interpreted the meaning of the song perfectly. Imagine this person as a teenager, overstaying their welcome at home. out with someone they're in love with, they don't care where they go, as long as they are together, and then a missed opportunity for a kiss or to let the other person know how they really feel. Then the person does not care whether to live or die as long as they're together. The ultimate expression of love. This is the feeling of teenage love and the pains of growing up. Thanks for your reaction to one of my favorite songs of all time. Only the Smiths could create a song with such cheerful music juxtaposed with morbid lyrics.

There's more than a few actually, but most of those have stuck around and have changed members. A band I'd say that is equally flawless in my opinion for a short time frame is the 90's is the band Sunny Day Real Estate from the U.S. Similarly/Eerily they released their first album in 1994 and released their swansong in the year 2000. Every album from them is amazing. Their second after their debut Diary wasn't that good , but their 3rd and final 4th album were Godly.

The Smiths were extremely influential to a whole generation of youths. Its a great rabbit hole to go down. If u decide to do more smiths heres a few recommendations. If u want a deep ballad try, I Know Its Over. If u want something more upbeat, try This Charming Man, if u want something a little heavier try, How Soon is Now. Plenty of other songs too.

One of the Smiths' darker track and a favorite among Smiths fans, properly because of it's classic Smiths melancholy style. Their lyricism is powerful, wailing and personal. Considered an iconic 80s band and the lead singer Morressey has had a strong solo career after that he split from the band. Worth a deep dive.

Love to see you reviewing The Smiths, their catalogue is legendary and there's so many gems. You should also check out Morrisey's (lead singers) solo career which is 30 years long and 10+ albums deep. Keep the reactions coming to The Smiths and Morrissey ~

The song is summed up by the lyrics ..and in the darkened underpass I thought ho God my chance has come at last but then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask as in that there is a light that never goes out
@feelingpaulie3943
@feelingpaulie3943 11 ай бұрын
I always took this to mean that they had been disowned by their family because they "came out".........and that feeling that no-one else understood, and they wanted to be taken out in the city, and the whole nervousness of "in the darkened underpass I thought "oh God my chance has come at last" but then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask"............back in the 80's, you couldn't just "come out" without repercussions, and I resonated with this song in the day, because being queer still had quite a stigma attached to it, particularly during the AIDS crisis during those times. And I took the "there is a light and it never goes out" to mean that being queer is a light that never goes out. Well. That's just what I took from it as a young queer man, and I identified with it. Great reaction! xxooxx

That was the thing about The Smiths. They were both uplifting and melancholic at the same time. They had so many songs where the music was uplifting but the lyrics were melancholic and others where the music was melancholic but the lyrics were hilarious. Their songs pulled you in all directions at the same time. Sorry for your loss by the way.

I bought the record not long after its release in the UK. Here in Brazil it was released by wea (Warner-Elektra-Atlantic). It was quite remarkable as British indie groups (although very famous in Brazil back in the 80s especially after the "Rock in Rio" festival) were never released in this country. Information travelled so slowly back then. The Smiths were the best thing produced by the UK in the 80s. There were so many great bands in that island but they really had something special, like The New York Dolls. The singer put so much of his intimate life into his music, he is telling something absurdly personal. "And then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask". He was finally in that car side by side with the one he wanted to be. The opportunity to do what he wanted to do arrived but Morrissey always said that the reality is never as good and perfect as the dream. Once again the missed the opportunity.

I was at university in 1993-96 and a brilliant dude called Alan Scales got me into The Smiths. We loved other bands at the time. Pulp was already established, and Oasis were having their ratings war with Blur etc. And crazy stuff on the side. But thank goodness for The Smiths. I love them now, exactly s much as I did then. Morrisey went on to do amazing solo albums like Vauxhall And I. And The Smiths' league guitarist co-wrote amazing songs like Getting Away With it (with Electronic).

Hey Brad, you’re a legend! This maybe an immensely huge ask, but would it be possible if you check out my solo music??? I understand that taking time out of your day to do a video reacting to me would be highly unlikely since it’s ideal & more appealing to do videos about known high status bands/artists, but even if you just react to it without a video then I’d also be eternally grateful! I truly think I have something special and from now I refuse to hide or shy away from getting myself out there, I also write songs in the same style as The Smiths (that may sound arrogant, but I’m truly just confident & immensely passionate about music producing and songwriting) I love your videos a lot, and genuinely appreciate you as a person and a rockstar!
