It's funny you mentioned that. I just commented last night that Twenty One Pilots is like a warm reassuring hug when you are having a bad day. I'm almost 50, so The Smiths and The Cure were like that for me back in the day.

I fuckin love the man! I'm 16 and got into the Smiths originally a couple years ago when I heard 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' on the radio. From then on I bought Meat Is Murder and that's when I found Mozza's solo work. My first album of his was Low In High School and I've got the whole collection of The Smiths and Morrissey now. I saw him for the the first and , so far, only time in London last year just before lockdown and didn't stop shaking for the first half of it (too starstruck at the time). Hopefully the first of many!

I didn't get a response, but knew I wouldn't as he is asked by EVERY animal charity to work with them, plus he already does so much for animals💕 BUT I know he reads letters given to him, so that was good enough for me!😄 I also have a small shred of his shirt from about 10 years ago when he played Dublin - he took it off and threw it right at me - I was clutching it, but about 10 others bounced in grabbing it as well, so a tug of war ensued - I was trying so hard to rip a bit off it! But there was a burly suedehead and a BIG retro 50's girl beside me who ended up having an actual fist fight over it and security had to step in - but she ran away with the shirt almost in tact - LUCKY BITCH!😂 He also handed me a white rose in Dublin whilst singing 'Irish Blood, English Heart' 😍 I promptly put it in my Mozipedia as soon as I got home to press & preserve it - still have it. I also have his autograph from when he did an album signing in Belfast for his album 'Southpaw Grammar'; got a couple of brilliant pics that day when I snuck into the press enclosure, before being trailed out by security! LOL! Yes, you're correct - I AM a Morrissey Stalker and totally unashamed of it!😂 My fav solo albums are probably Bona Drag, You Are The Quarry and Years Of Refusal.....but they are all works of art! I'll leave you with this old fav song - his first solo gig after The Smiths split - no tickets, fans just had to wear a Smiths t-shirt to gain entry - fans queued for DAYS......I wish I'd been there, but it was before I'd discovered him. Can't believe how they can call him a 'racist' and they wouldn't if they knew the first thing about him. How could he possibly be a racist if he donated £75,000 to the Love Music, Hate Racism event when it was in peril saying "this is a historic event spreading an important, anti-racist message... it must be allowed to go ahead. This is something I am committed to". If anyone listened to his lyrics they'd know he's the complete opposite of a racst. He even cvered the Bob Dylan track 'Only A Pawn In Their Game" speaking out against racism in the USA, which Dylan himself sung in front of the civil rights activists. I'm in the minority where I actually prefer his later solo work to his earlier stuff, (but of course, it's all perfect). I couldn't tell you my favorite albums or songs as there all different and brilliant in their own way but at the moment, I'm listening a lot to 'You Are The Quarry', 'Years Of Refusal', 'I Am Not A Dog On A Chain' and 'Bona Drag'. It's nice to speak with someone who actually has a good taste in music as, at my age, I go to school with most people listening to rap and modern shite, (some of which is good, and when I say some I mean very little).

The Smiths had chart success but as far as "hits" go they weren't a commercial band and their songs weren't played on commercial radio. They had a huge fan base and following though (and even after their split and over 30 years later they are are loved by many more) There Is a Light That Never Goes Out is one of their most loved songs, so is How Soon Is Now which incidentally, was originally released as a B-Side on the single William It Was Really Nothing, it was later released as a single after their record company realized the fans were going nuts over it. It's hard to name hits when it comes to The Smiths because they really don't have hits, they have GREAT songs. (This Charming Man was a chart success and definitely deserves a reaction!)

@@oscillatewildly6553 Oh well i don't recall saying any song was on a billboard chart - I guess for you a hit has to be on some mainstream chart. I was there in the 80s when they were releasing albums and I'm well aware of their popularity and the fact they weren't main stream necessarily.

Not usually, always. The lyrics aren't always sad or depressing, often times they're sarcastic or downright funny. Even this song which sounds melancholic employs a fair bit of slapstick humour.
