*BTS is actually an anomaly even in the K-POP world.* Their underdog story is genuinely insane. You have to understand that k-pop has its own political climate. The top stay on the top. Small company musicians are squeezed out of existence by larger and more wealthy companies. It’s extremely cut-throat and these bands have very short life-expectancy. Especially in an industry that’s increasingly over-saturated. Unless your apart of the three richest entertainment companies (SM, YG, JYP). Your dead. BTS sits on the very bottom rung of the K-POP hierarchy. Imagine a small local electronic shop competing against Samsung, Apple and LG all at once. Logically, BTS were never meant to thrive past their 1-year anniversary. Because the system they work in is designed to make poorer/small groups like theirs fail. Every conceivable obstacle was put in front of them and somehow BTS and their fans (ARMY) overcame every adversity. This wasn’t overnight. This took years. And it was done through hard work and sincerity. It’s only recently, about the last two years have people actually caught on to why BTS is so well loved and intellectually respected by those who understand music and those who work in the humanitarian sectors. They make music themselves, their lyrics are complex sometimes requiring university level deconstruction to understand the proper depth of their writing. And the boys themselves are very kind. They’re kind to their fans, to their staff, to themselves and to each other. In a media landscape where everything is sexual, violent and hedonistic, BTS's music is a serious breath of fresh air. Currently, surveys show that BTS fans are not young teenagers. Their fans are predominantly 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s of all races, gender and backgrounds. You guys fit perfectly into that bracket. Thanks for reacting my dudes, I’m looking forward to more BTS content from you guys. Cheers from Australia!

This MV and the whole concept for their WINGS album/era was based on a classical German novel called “Demian” by Herman Hesse. (When RM was talking towards the end of the MV he was reciting a passage from the novel). There were also 7 short films released before/leading up to the the WINGS album that are all part of this whole storyline that they’ve had ongoing for about the last 3 years or so. And the whole storyline is incredibly confusing

BTS has stated many times that their Wings concept is based on youth/boys falling into temptation and losing their innocence. In Wings/Blood Sweat & Tears, we will witness their fall & one interpretation of the different ways adulthood tempts the freshly matured. The video opens with everyone walking into the museum together, but everyone is paired up: J-Hope with V, Suga with Jimin, Rapmon with Jungkook. There are 7 members in BTS so the odd one out is Jin, who is seen walking away from everyone and towards a painting. Jin looks at the painting, titled The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel. We know that the angels of heaven fell because of direct rebellion against God by siding with Lucifer, who corrupted the angels by sinful temptations. This is a foreshadowing of the future events to come. Jin is the center focus of the music video and is the key symbol of tempted youth (which is ironic because he’s the oldest in BTS!) The next painting is seen behind Jungkook, who is dangling from a swing. It is The Lament of Icarus by Herbert James Draper. The story of Icarus is marked by its famous representation of a naïve boy whose innocent curiosity is his fatal flaw. He is given a pair of wax-held wings by his father Daedalus (an inventor/scientist) to fly, but he ignores his father’s warning to stay away from the Sun. He ultimately flies too close to the Sun and the wax holding his wings together melts, destroying his wings and leading to Icarus falling into the ocean below and drowning. Rap Monster is the one who melts the candle from which Jungkook licks the melted wax from. In the myth, although it is Icarus’ own ignorance that leads to his death, it is his father Daedalus who gives him the option of flying in the first place. So Rapmon would represent Daedaelus and Jungkook can be interpreted as Icarus. And then, J-Hope in front of Michelangelo’s Pieta, which shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion and removal from the cross. If you’ve listened to the Wings album you know that J-Hope’s solo song is titled “Mama” and is about his mom (there are also ties here to Demian). Later on, all of the members are seen gathering at a table in what reminds me of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci anyways, they’re seen all with a single apple on their plate. The apple is a famous symbol of sin in the biblical story of Adam and Eve where Eve eats the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. Given that the apple is on their plate and they’re ready to eat, it is hinted that they’re all ready to commit to the sins of adulthood together by eating the apple together. Here we see more of the relationship between Jimin and Suga. Again, the apple is used as a symbol of sin (bonus: Jimin’s solo track “Lie” is also heavily influenced by the Adam and Eve story). We have V sitting on the ledge of a balcony (where he was seen in the beginning sitting at and looking up and down) and he looks back at you, cracks a mischievous grin, and jumps willingly. And in front of him is a big painting: Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, also by Bruegel. The painting shows a spectacular scenery of the sea, but when you look closely, you can see that there are a pair of legs struggling in the sea on the bottom righthand corner. That’s supposed to be Icarus after he falls. Throughout this video Jin has looked pretty conflicted; if you recall the beginning when he’s looking at the painting, he’s got a focused look as well as confused. Like he doesn’t really know why he’s drawn to it but he is. And remember when he was at the dinner table with everyone but he gets distracted by something? This struggle is resolved with this scene of Jin and his balloon. The balloon represents his innocent youth; he’s quite literally holding on to it. He’s not sure if he wants to let go. Then, later on, during the cut with Rap Monster’s narration, we see that Jin has finally let go of the balloon. The balloon is already out of frame when he reaches up towards it, possibly regretting his choice. Suga plays the organ and it is seen that all the boys in their respective pairs exit the museum, except Jin has stayed behind and V has noticed. Jin seems to be looking at/for something, and V shows up with yet another playful look and covers his eyes. When V removes his hands and Jin opens his eyes, a mysterious statue with large, black wings has appeared and looks like it’s ready to take off. So in the end, V, who’s been kind of elusive in the story, is revealed to have scars where wings are supposed to be. I believe this statue is V. The way the scenes cut support this theory, because as the cloth covering V is revealed Jin is approaching the statue, and as he kisses the statue the figure under the cloth with the scars on his back is revealed to be V. A kiss often means the sealing of a contract; this means that Jin has officially fallen and “signed a contract” with V the fallen angel and has lost his innocence. The correlation is pretty strong here. Given all of the biblical references and the way V jumps off the ledge earlier supports the idea that V is, indeed, the fallen angel that tempts Jin. V has turned his back quite literally and has also figuratively turned his back on Jin, who did not suspect V to be a tempter.

Ok ...Hi guys! Blood , Sweat and Tears , good choice. Because in this video you get a glimpse at a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense nor doesn't seem to have any connection ( and you're right, it's like watching a movie), but for ARMY there's tons of symbolism and theories to deduct from this one video. BTS makes reference to diverse literature in their videos, one of them being the book Damien by Herman Hesse (which is basically about a man meeting evil) but there are many more references to other books, but this is the one referenced most in this era and later .But like I said in my previous comment of your first reaction to BTS, it's a theorizable STORYLINE that can actually drive you crazy thinking of the many interpretations. (BTW there are also fan videos trying to make sense of these theories). To me personally, this whole theory thing started with their Young Forever era and album (even though a lot of references go back to their 2 Kool for Skool album). Our opinions vary (ARMYs opinions). And any other ARMY out there is more than free to correct me if I'm wrong. I see that you really want to continue analyzing BTS MVs👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. If you really want to do some research, I suggest you start there or ask ARMY for help. We're really good at explaining a lot in as small a space as we possibly can. I know you are not so much into this type of music nor choreo, but you're also not our most regular BTS reactors that just OOOH and AWWW and that's it and get thousands upon thousands of hits and likes because they are reacting to BTS (remember when I said we're millions?). I know you guys are really serious reactors and like to really observe and comment and right now you seem a little divided and lost. I FORGOT: to start off watch who is BTS? An introduction to the 7 members and also ***very important*** BTS From Nobodies to Legends. All my love and admiration to you for dipping your feet into these deep, deep waters. Good luck!!! The quote is from Nietzsche and it says You Must Have Chaos Within Your Soul To Birth A Dancing Star. BTS has turned their fans into literary detectives and introduced generations to many philosophical works that they wouldn't necessarily read until college. The fun part is analysing and finding how the current MV connects to past MVs... because BTS leaves clues is their Korean/Japanese Songs/Vlives/Bangtan Bombs/Twitter/Instagram...they aren't the social media Kings for no reason!

BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS MV EXPLANATION: There's a lot of symbolism in this music videos that are related to their long story line that runs through their series of music videos and short films. This MV is inspired by the book "DEMIAN" by Herman Hesse. The book is about Emil Sinclair, a young boy raised in a middle class home, amidst what is described as a Scheinwelt, a play on words meaning "world of light" as well as "world of illusion". Emil's entire existence can be summarized as a struggle between two worlds: the show world of illusion and the real world, the world of spiritual truth. In the course of the novel, accompanied and prompted by his mysterious classmate 'Max Demian', he detaches from and revolts against the superficial ideals of the world of appearances and eventually awakens into a realization of self. (In the music video, RM's narrating a quote from that book.) Jin is playing the character of Sinclair and V as (Demian) a fallen angel that's why his wings were cut off. And all 7 members are portraying the 7 deadly sins. The scene where Jin kisses the fallen angel is a metaphor of loosing your innocence by falling into evil deeds. (V and Jin cannot kiss so they used a statue instead.) After that kiss scene, you'll notice how everything crashes and the members are acting or dancing in a more sensual way and Jin's cracking face, which meant that their innocence were gone. (They explained that the WINGS ALBUM was about encountering temptations and BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS is a sexy song of sorrow.) Welcome to BTS' fictional world, that we call BTS' UNIVERSE: THE FICTIONAL WORLD OF BANGTAN. You see, BTS have this story line that runs through their series of music videos, short films and highlight reels. This story line started from their MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE ALBUM (HYYH) to their WINGS ALBUM until their LOVE YOURSELF (HER, TEAR, WONDER & ANSWER) ALBUM SERIES. Everything is connected to the story, that's the reason why there are a lot of symbolism in each of their MVs. (for eample: In the FAKE LOVE MV, what connects J-hope to the Sickers and the amusement park, Jimin and the water, Suga and the fire, RM and the mirror, V and the cellphone, Jin and the flower, and on the teaser the objects that they and what they trade it for, etc.). There's a DEEPER meaning of everything, I mean literally DEEPER than what you think. There is so much more to discover about BTS, not just thei music, artistry, talent, lyrics, etc. The whole cinematic universe(fiction) they got going on is another layer that adds so much into their crafts. Omigosh! I found you & loved you guys reactions to Pentatonix and now you’re reacting to my other favorite fandom I belong to, BTS! This is amazing!! I hope you fall in love w/ them just as much as you have loved Pentatonix, b/c BTS is also something special. They are totally different, but what you’ll find is quality talent from both groups-which is exactly why I love them both so much! I recently discovered BTS and found their music to be something else & more extra than regular K-pop. They seemed to have surpassed that K-pop genre. They write, produce, their own songs and if you look up their lyrics, you’ll find such beauty & meaning within them-they even delve into topics that not many k-pop artists don’t cover from politics, to social issues, to youth empowerment, lgbtq rights, & most importantly speaking the message of loving yourself & loving others. Some of their lyrics are pure poetry. I think they beautifully emote emotions through their voices, whether it be singing or rapping, just like Pentatonix does. Check out their songs The Truth Untold and Magic Shop (their song for their fans) and I believe you’ll find them so beautiful! I look forward to more BTS reactions, as well as continued PTX reactions! ❤️❤️

Fun fact: the German quote in the video is actually a quote from philosopher Nietzsche! ^^ Namjoon/RM, who’s one of the group’s head songwriters, is notoriously well-read and interested in literature and philosophical writings from all over the world ^^ (It’s not just RM. Several members of the group are very big into reading , even literature from other parts of the globe (see J-Hope’s inclusion of an allusion to Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea in his mixtape’s song “Hope World”) - he’s just one of the more vocal ones about it.)

For this german sentence, I just notice it after watching the video several times and thought it was so cool. Also like how you notice it and translate it, seems like you are also germans (your location for this channel is also in germany)? That's cool.

I'm glad you liked the video and noticed the quote! BTS has a slew of very artistic videos, as well as a series of short films that preview each member's solo song and ties into the story line that follows this MV.

The moment when you realize one of the hardest rappers plays the organ though.... Also yeah, the short film format is really mindboggling. It gets really deep if you want to get really into it. I'm barely scratching the surface so far.

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” You did well translating it. It's a quite famous and much analysed Friedrich Nietzsche's quote from Thus Spoke Zarathustra. BTS use deep, multi layered symbolism & literature references in their lyrics as well as in their music videos.

The biggest inspiration is from the book of Damien. They have 3 rappers and 4 vocalist and they have stories throughout their mvs. They write their own lyrics, compose and produce their own music too (they do have the company producers and writers to help as well) but the do a lot of the lyrics own their own. The truth untold (4 vocalist) Dimple (4 vocalist) Let me know (all 7 members) Tomorrow (7 members) Mic drop (7 members)
