2 PART VIDEO. HOW TO SING LIKE VIDEO ON CHRIS CORNELL AND J BON JOVI.
What I would like to get across in this video is only do what you can do at your stage in development. Start smaller not so big in other words don't try and sound like the artist right away. Get a clean map of how to sing it then add your style and rasp/distortion breathiness. This is in no way in place of a lesson. Its what I could squeeze in a video, in about 6 minutes.

If somebody goes to sing Bruno Mars and it comes out like Dio then I would say that person has triumphed the art of singing.

This is Chris Cornell in his later years after years of early grunge belting.. His vocals are scarred, and tired and he was still world class until the end. While you and others can reproduce his recent vocal range which I admit is fun and consoling and more importantly beautiful of anyone who wants to sound like him. His range in his early years was ridiculous and not many could reproduce it even nowadays... Damn fine voice you have there Daniel, I’m jealous...

Alot of people fail to recognize just what kind of range Chris really has. You're going to have to be able to hit all the notes he can before you can even think about adding anything to the voice....and I've heard songs where he has spanned 3 octaves. Good luck.

My weaknesses is vibrato, which you have. I got the distortion, I think. When you sing clean, it's not all in the throat, but to sing like Chris, a lot of head voice and muting with his mouth and teeth.

Fucking fantastic teaching. Love the demo ofcourse...So incredible...but particularly love how u mention at each step that student should be aware of their current ability and how long it may take between each little step (watched the bon jovi one also). Personally I don't like the way Chris pronounces (too hard to understand), but I love love how you do it and Bon does it.

This is brilliant. This resonated on a seismic level. I am just not quite able to contain what I've discovered here! The only shame is not having discovered this sooner. Can't wait to consciously practice this, no one has conceptualized for me what I've been discovering and learning for myself for many years. It has been very much like you described - there are moments when you feel the voice has reached a higher level and you're consciously aware of it, aware of being able to do more with less effort. A bit of effort doesn't sound too bad though :) I'd like to also share a tip, but it's a bit "out there". And it is that my best singing happened during my most relaxed or elevated state...not much thinking. But the thing is, one who is in such a state knows it....well, I consciously do - and the singing in this state is like nothing you ever sing when you're stuck in thought all day. In this state it's not just singing, it's the whole reality - it's genuine. I've noticed for many years this phenomenon of singing better when you're singing along in a concert, or in a club somewhere after having had a few drinks. It's something that relaxes the mind, and that's the root of it - relaxing the thought process to the minimum, no thought at all if possible. Then whatever one does, is this perfection flowing in that moment...as someone else put it, infinite stillness and movement simultaneously. Anyways, long ramble... This (video) is awesome. Thanks a bunch man.

This is kinda a lot to ask, but would you be willing to make a short video on just you singing a bit of Nimrods Son by the pixies, and tips on how to do the scream at about :50 seconds? I'm a female vocalist who has only been singing for about a year, and I'm in a Pixies cover show in a couple months, but have no idea how to go about getting the same tone and raspiness to my voice as Frank Black. My voice is pretty clean toned. And yes I surely do plan to do your 15 minute free lesson thing as well! I'd appreciate the help so much. You are incredible!!

The points about how to get better are spot on. However, it's tough to expand a vocal range. Its' almost a different game entirely, although you touched on several important points here. I'd say Bon Jovi would be possible for most mortals, others more so (a band like Weezer with no range, or a lower range like Clapton). But Cornell, man, that's a tough one. I generally transpose his stuff, as would most club/bar musicians over the age of 23.
