Hey Daniel, great video! So to make sure i understand what you’re saying, first we inhale, and then when we sing, as we expend air to sing, we still have to maintain the position/posture of when we just inhaled? And what’s right way to think about airflow? From your video it seems that whenever you sing, you think of leaning on your lower abs? So that means that your lower abs never come in when you sing like how some other teachers explain support? Am i missing anything? I’m currently very confused because there are many schools of thought when it comes to support/appoggio. In short, when you sing, you maintain the inhaled position (which should be tiring right? at least for beginners?) while leaning against your lower abs.

you talk a lot about the inhalation of surprise, but it is always done through the mouth, but I also heard about a short inhalation through the nose as if you are sniffing your favorite aroma and automatically expanding after that, it is much more convenient and familiar for me to breathe through the nose, what do you think about this?

I understand correctly that the essence of support is to inflate your ribs and inflate like a balloon and not deflate throughout the entire phrase, no matter whether you sing high notes or low ones, without straining your abs

One of the things that plagued me in the past, and still does to a large extent, is being able to separate technical issues from health issues. Working with Dan has given me clarity on what is caused by what. It's really important to get clarify on what's caused by technical issues and what's caused by health issues. When you don't have good technique, you constantly conflate the two, which makes it difficult to understand what's really going on. Health (having a cold etc) is no excuse for not maintaining good technique, and having good technique doesn't mean you can abuse your health.

If you don't have a lot of experience, you would probably think this was a good version of Recondita Armonia, it is not. It doesn't sound partially loud or big, to start off with. Legato is non-existent. Part of the reason why the legato is inconsistent, is because of the vibrato. That is a wobble - the vibrato is far too slow and inconsistent. For opera standards this is not a particularly great performance. That being said, if it is done as a very quick demonstration, perhaps that is okay. Teachers are not always the best performers, otherwise they would be on stage performing and not teaching. But the best singers and performers also don't necessarily make the best vocal teachers.

This would be a great discussion as it was in a fully carpeted room not a loud room etc. let’s talk about the wobble explain where?
@danielformica-yourvocalteacher

been listening to this . definitely not a wobble. i put it in software program and it lines up perfect with many vibratos pavarotti raimond etc. i think it could be your ear that is immature listening to this type of singing.

Daniel, in the video, you're saying to leave the stomach as it was on the inhale, but you use the lower muscles below the belly button when you sing... Is that correct? So you sing from the lower gut? It's like a downwards push?
@danielformica-yourvocalteacher
@danielformica-yourvocalteacher 3 ай бұрын
If you put your fingers about 3 inches below your belly button and cough you will feel a little kick. When you relax the abs and allow the inhale the lower belly will go out like when you are sleeping then you lean that muscle out with your sound don’t tighten or push but lean with your sound if it starts to come try and come in.
