Discussion on the topic of linework and improving the look and feel of your linework by always thinking about lighting and form.
Commentary was done while drawing/recording, so that always winds up hurting the art or insight, but at least it keeps it lively.

"This is how a kid might draw an eye, when they are young" 90% of the students I get to teach when they are like 14 draw a DOT, maybe with a circle or an egg around it. That's where I hang up portraits upside down for them to draw what they see, not what they know... to blow their minds about how they can draw.

One thing I learned to do sort of on my own through trial and error is to skip around. Try to visualize the full picture first and skip around drawing lines here and there until it comes together like a puzzle. This is good to do if you have a super vivid imagination like me. It will look abstract at first to an observer, but slowly it pulls together. The only thing is you can't have any distractions at all or you might lose the visualization, I really need to be in the flow to draw this way.

@@animerman2017 I think what sinix is trying to say is to not directly draw the eye as it is but draw it in a way that light is already affecting it, like when theres a strong light on top of you, your eye area will be pretty dark because eye area is underneath the forehead area, so when you draw the eye you use large black shapes to signify those shadows while detailing in a way that the few light that do show is seen. im sorry if im not clear enough im trying to understand it too myself hahaha

Especially I want to know is it a round brush or a flat one, and if flat, do you have any rotation applied to it in the settings or what, because i can't get that effect with my brush that you are using, i have preassure sensitivity set on flow and I use flat brush. hi i had a question. any advice for controlling your brush strokes while painting (digitally)? some artwork, including yours, seems to have style and control in every brush stroke. kind of like how 90s comic books used lots of crosshatching, instead of just filling in shadows with random lines. when i paint, i feel like im randomly filling the forms out, and it doesnt look interesting. how can i fill my art with brush strokes that have stylish "motifs" like some of the better artists out there?

how do you draw like that while creating from imagination? like the design phase, you are still figuring out the character using references, in this phase i dont want to worry about lighting, but just the design and form. So would you say that it would be more beneficial to start with line sketches and then aplying big shapes on top of that and define the lighting of the scene? it is so amazing seeing people starting like this already from the begining like they already have a crystal clear image of what the final piece should be...For me lighting should be something you put on top of an already stablished line drawing.
