Picked up my first Sinn a 556i and have it on wrist for last two weeks . Excellent watch with exception of cheap clasp. The movement is of “top grade” quality and is spot accurate at -2/+2. I am at rating to love this brand .

After being though several 104 and U1 models, the EZM-3 is my sweet spot for a Sinn diver. Same dimensions as the 104/105, bead blasted, 500m water resistant, AR technology with copper sulphate capsule, as anti-magnetic as a Milgauss, a good modified ETA 2824 movement. If they made an EZM-3 with dual time and made a few improvements to the bracelet it would be my ideal watch.

The inscrutable KZfaq algorithm fed me this video today, just as the world is awash in gushing over the Tudor Ranger. This was the most convincing positive review I've heard in a long time. You really helped me to to understand the watch. And convinced me that it's not a watch for me, but no matter. 😉

What an excellent review of a cool watch. I just bought the sister watch 105 ST SA White dial. You captured the key features and design elements of this watch really well. I especially like how you addressed the feel of the watch on the wrist, that is, how everything comes together to impact the wearing experience. I call that poise. A well poised watch just feels right. The hands and markers seem divisive with Sinn heads but I see it as a modern design and highly legible. Modern designs are in short supply in watches and are needed to move the hobby forward.

Great review Pete. I have the black dial bracelet version and I totally agree with you it is a no-nonsense, go anywhere do anything good looking quality tool watch. For me, I actually prefer the placement of the date window at 6 o'clock for better visual symmetry. I am indifferent to the see thru case back. The only 2 improvements I would like is (a) drilled lugs and (b) more micro adjustments on the clasp.

Great review Peter and l love the " Meat and two Veg" approach to your analysis. I've got the Sinn 556a and the u50 " mother of pearl". This is on my radar next and was lucky to get hands on with it in England. Enjoying a back list of your videos at the moment. Thanks for the knowledge and no nonsense thoughts !

Always enjoy your reviews. You look at watches a differently from other watch KZfaqrs. Like the pop of orange on this one and the sleek, modern look. Most interesting to me was how you pointed out how the pure white dial made it appear smaller.

Congratulations on the new watch. The design is ruthlessly modern and yet avoids any reference to Bauhaus. I think a lot of companies could learn how to do modern design using this as an inspiration. Always looking backwards is has become tedious and it's about time that cleaner modern design was given a chance. The " watch community" won't like it but this is a good 'un.

Nice review. The only thing that really bugs me about the white dial version is how every marker looks like a zero, so it always reads something past “zero o’clock.”

I've been looked at one of these with the black dial on the black rubber strap. The new ones are using the 330-2 movement with a 56 hour power reserve. Thanks for all the helpful information.

Good review. This is one of those watches, that if you love white dials, has to be on your short list. I do and it is. Of course there are a couple things that every person would like to change. Personally for me this Sinn could use a little bit larger 12 O'clock indices just for watch orientation in low/no light situations. Other than that it's great! Thanks much,

I just purchased the black dial variant on the silicon strap. Couldn't be more pleased. The second time zone is supremely readable. Far better than my Rolex GMT.

What an absolutely superb review of a great watch, thank you so much. I’d have the black version or the non UTC version, but I can’t see me not getting some form of Sinn at some point. The 104 has never done it for me for the same points you have pointed out, the ezm3 has always appealed and anything bead blasted, so I think I’ll have to save up for something similar and sell a few pieces. My goal would be to have just one watch……..maybe! Liked and subscribed!

Great watch and one I'm considering. For me I'd love them to bring out a simple 3 hander version, the GMT bezel is enough for me.

They do have a non GMT version, it has day/date and 12hr bezel.

I don't know Sinn very well but this is the best looking one I've seen. I love the pop of orange against the white dial. You may be the first person I've seen that wants a date at 4:30. I say leave it at 6:00.

true - I suspect I am the only youtuber saying 4:30 is the optimum place for a date, otoh I think Im also the only youtuber with an arguement for why the date should be where I think it should be.

Thank you for the great review. I like the 105 utc. I'm ambivalent to the 105 mainly because i don't care for the day/date window at the 6. Perhaps in time I can get used to it. How do you feel about the UTC hand not being lumed?

Hey Bobby, thanks. Yeah, that date window thing is becoming really weird, I always kew people (including me) had thoughts on the date window placement but what Im finding interesting is how a) different peoples ideas are and b) how strong those different feelings are.

I'm not so keen on the hands and markers. I don't mind that lozenge shape on the seconds hand but for every marker and the other hands I just can't get on board with it. Enjoyed the video though as always.

Nice review. In my opinion the watch look better in 39mm. The dial hands proportions seems to be off by a little bit. Question: How is the lume ? Or how is the visibility during the evening/night ? Why did you choose the white dial ? Or did you consider the black dial ? Did yo consider the Silicone (+310$), H-Link (+310$) or the Five-Link (+470$) bracelet ? Any specific reason not to choose any of the other options ?

Thanks - to your questions. 1. not 100% sure on the proportions myself - the watch has a quite reduced presense already, making it even smaller? But, otoh I agree the hour hand does feel a bit lost. The beauty of being an actual designer would be getting to prototype it a bit. 2. Lume seems ok - Im not really a big one on that so sorry I cant be authoritative on that. I would say I tend to work in a low light environment (hence little chance to 'charge' the lume) and there its fine but when you go stright to real dark its not really readable - does that help? 3. White dial? Pure aesthetics - I just saw the white and black and preferred the white, more open, airy, a lighter feel. The black felt a bit somber, visually heavy. 4. Band/bracelet choice. Simply, I buy every watch intending to keep it forever, dont like bracelets generally and know I'll be changing the band/bracelet sooner or later and a lot, therefore I generally just buy the cheapest and easiest option. That said, in this case I thought the black leather with orange stitching does work well with the design.

i have just ordered one. if its any different from what i have seen on read with other reviews, it will be going back. lower grade movements are usually thicker and not as refined. my understanding is the the GMT is a sw300 and the day date is a sw200-1 i think

true - I cant see them swapping to thicker movements - there would be too much case redesign for that. my guess is this caveat caters for a form, fit, function swap between ETA and Sellita and/or some other version of that movement. I'd also stress they would be unlikely to go to a chinese version as this would endanger their 'made in germany' credentials. In fact, I think being 'made in germany' is a big part of the decision to use selitta in the first place.

I totally get their mindset and philosophy...why is it important to have an in-house movement in a tool watch ? Surely robustness and accuracy is what it’s about .... It’s all about function but yet it’s got a no nonsense industrial beauty... I think it’s a great piece ...

Pretty sure they kept the date at 6 o'clock because the non GMT version of the watch has day/date at this position, so they can use the same date wheel for both models.

neither - 48 clicks - just about perfect for setting a timezone, little less helpful as an impromptu timer

Good Evening, how is the accuracy on it? Sinn makes great watches. I have been really getting into German watches lately Laco is my preference because of that nostalgic esthetic. Thank you for your content never miss a video.

I own this watch since two weeks now. The accuracy on mine is +0,8 sec/day. So no reason to complain at all 😉. I chose the steel bracelet and it is so much fun!

I dont really track accuracy closely so I cant really answer this - I know its COSC certified so unless there is something wrong with the watch it should be pretty tight.

@@elefantrising sorry - I have to take that back - I was writing up notes for a review of another watch and got mixed up. No, the 105 is a standard sellita, and I don't believe sinn touch it except to stick it in the case - you could get great accuracy but may not. Sorry fro the error.

I love it and I can see the attraction of the Laco too. Personally I preferred the Sinn as - and this might sound weird - its less versatile. What I mean is the Sinn is more focussed, more sure of what it is whereas the Laco is a bit of a jack of all trades. So after 6 months I'm still loving the Sinn - for the days I want a tough as nails, no compromise watch its fantastic.

Is it a true GMT movement, meaning that the white hour hand can be adjusted independently of all the others?

you are using true gmt incorrectly. a true gmt is one where the gmt hand is not slaved to the hour hand but can be set independently. this is a true gmt but a 'tracker', ie you adjust the gmt hand not the hour hand.

Ok, let be be clear. the Sinn 105 UTC IS a true GMT, ie, the GMT hand is not slaved to the hour hand and can be set indepentently. However, there are two options for how this is done, often referred to as the traveller vs the tracker. In a traveller arrangement, when changing the time for a changing timezone you adjust the main hour hand without hacking. In a tracker arrangement, when changing the timezone you change the GMT hand without hacking. This is a tracker arrangement.

In my opinion, if they get rid of the display case back, maybe just use quartz movement or even a solar movement. Speaking purely for function, there is no reason to use mechanical movement nowadays. Quartz is cheaper, more accurate, more shock resistant, more magnetic resistant, etc. The only practical reason to use mechanical movement is the shut up the mouth of mechanical snoob.

Sinn could have said “or an alternative movement of similar or better quality and accuracy” or words to that effect. They may think the movement is just the engine, but if you were buying a car would you accept a condition like that? No, you would insist on the advertised engine.

The emperor may have no clothes where this design is concerned. It has all the visual appeal of a dime store wall clock, and lacks even a 12 o’clock loom pip so you can read the time at night, which tanks it’s functionality as well.

I think this watch is out of batteries. All the numbers are reading “0”. I love my U1 blue. It’s my daily wear and I work in rough conditions. It still look brand new.
