@@mst3k3000 I am pretty sure I have a few episodes that I did not trade with the S&E website guys years back. As I go through my discs there may be a show or two that is "new" to the internet. Regrettably I don't have everything I taped -- I used to record the show weekly then at some point thought I didn't need the tapes anymore! Good news at least is I saved about half of them so I have a lot of shows to upload here.

Siskel's reaction to virtually every horror film...... "Let me bitch about the violence first."
@canuck_gamer3359
@canuck_gamer3359 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure that's fair or accurate. I've seen lots of reviews where Roger objected to the content where Gene did not. I've also seen video's where Gene praises the "darkness" of a given film. I think it's important to keep in mind that these guys both took films a lot more seriously than most people and they often gave thumbs down, (meaning they wouldn't recommend it) to movies most people would watch and enjoy. They think of great horror films as Halloween and Jaws where there is very little actual violence but a lot of tension with just music and mood. Just a thought :)
@zxbc1
@zxbc1 2 жыл бұрын
@@canuck_gamer3359 Yeah, overall speaking Gene is just more critical than Roger towards all movies, and tends to give a lot more thumbs down. Roger tends to go soft on movies that are targeting a specific demographic or are generally "harmless". They both object to violence more than today's average critic. They both thumbed down many cult 70s horror classics. There's nothing wrong with having a bias or particular taste, and they aren't immune to that since they're human beings. But they always let you know it.

It's always interesting to hear what others opinions are of movie characters.. I thought the Geena Davis character in The Accidental Tourist was way "sadder" ..she was more lonely and in need of companionship than either of the other two.. she just looked quirky and communicated differently
@chambeet
@chambeet 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, all three characters are sad. The Turner/Hurt characters, though, just recently had to live with their son being violently murdered. Of course, Geena Davis’s character had her own struggles. I felt for all three, really, but I swear, I wish I had a Geena Davis character in my life. I got out of an 8-year relationship and I swear I don’t know how to take care of myself anymore either.

James Woods actually sued a guy who commented online that he was a cokehead. It's funny to see him actually play one. Ever seen Woods interviewed? With the ever-manic energy he presents, one could be forgiven for guessing he was on stimulants. 😳

Roger sort of throws it back at Gene "okay give me an example of a better addicted to cocaine movie" and he flat lines cuz there is none. And you *knew* it would be predictable because it's set up in the first few minutes when his buddy is using coke and then Woods is given all this money and opportunity. You know he's going to fall into the shit hole and Woods just puts on a master class of manic paranoia. Talk Radio still one of the best examples of the final days in the life of a self-destructive, self-loathing character. And one of the best shots of all time is that gimbal / swivel / whatever the hell it was when Barry is melting down on the air at the end. Such a great piece of cinematography.

I saw The Boost last night and Roger Ebert's praise of the film was on point. Yet on the other hand, Woods' character forever remained a mystery to me. I did feel for him when he was reduced to being a nearly vacant shell but his character was never really developed. From the beginning, it's obvious that Woods was bipolar and the film never really addresses that.

I think he was tricked. He spent his life trying to unlock the mystery of the Lament Configuration (the puzzle box) and wanted desperately to know what was on the other side. Julia promised him the answers to all his questions when all she really wanted was one more minion for Leviathan. And when Leviathan thought He was in danger, He cut Channard loose....dropped him like a hot potato. Least that's how I saw it.

James Woods in The Boost. WHAT OVERACTING???
@bennyshambles
@bennyshambles Жыл бұрын
It’s hilariously bad, but I couldn’t look away. The overdose/bad reaction scene was reedonkulous. This review and clip selection makes it seem like a very effective drug drama, but when you watch the actual film it’s pretty goofy. I found myself laughing out loud at the serious scenes (the beach staircase fall, the bad reaction, the domestic, violence, the buildup to and self-sabotage of the pivotal comeback deal, etc. The most enjoyable scenes were the ones with Sean Young skinny dipping. Her acting was passable, but came off much worse when juxtaposed with Woods’ scenery buffet.

Oh man they really have no understanding of Hellraiser at all and its a bit painful. "If you open the box the wrong way it sends you to hell." No.....its if you open it the *right* way. These people were looking for hell but didn't realize what it really was until they found it. It's also not really supposed to make sense in the traditional way. You're seeing the world through the eyes of the characters who are also confused. The world is supposed to be blanketed in mystery.
