This is where I am. The stalking stage. Pics etc. I’m starting the consults next month. I wanted to do the same, 1 sister and microlocks. Leaning more microlocks. They looks sooo darn similar and more locticians are more readily available The prices though..about the darn same like a 150 difference

Sisterlocks locticians might be easier to find because of the website, but numbers wise, literally anyone can start microlocs, so I definitely get that. I hope your consults go well and that you reach clarity soon! 🤎

Namaste! I had sisterlocs for years and cut them out recently. I like the “freedom” of microlocs and that you can choose your own grid pattern. I ended up not liking the fact that I was unable to have a straight part because of the sisterloc grid. No one can tell the difference between sister and microlocs unless they know your grid pattern; so for me I am going to get re-loc’d with microlocs. Your hair is beautiful!

I am confused by the comment of not being able to do a middle part, with sisterlocks you can do a part anywhere, I think microlocs too, but I know sisterlocks b/c I have them

The interesting thing is when comparing microlocks started with braids or two strand twists to sisterlocks, there is a difference and the price should reflect that. However, when comparing microlocks started with full interlocking, then the difference in terms of method, install time and price are less noticeable. I don't think the question should be as simple as sisterlocks versus microlocks. I think the question should start with the desired end result. What locking method should give you that result? Understanding that your hair no matter the locking method may never produce that result. And this is where having your locs installed by an experienced loctician who has seen it all is beneficial. A well rounded professional will have a sense of what certain hair textures, densities, and various states of health can do. They can guide you to understand what your hair may or may not do so you can have realistic expectations going into the journey. However, if it is not that serious and you just want "a look" and you know you get bored easily, then you may not need someone with so much experience beyond being able to produce a quality foundation for your locs. Ultimately, you want to choose someone who can give you a solid foundation for the journey you want to take.

Omg! Last week, I literally planned out a followup video about exactly this! It’s soo true. It’s less about the name and more about the method of install, end goal, and I’d definitely say about the loctician too. @candimommi This is a tough one. Things to consider in this front are loctician/consultant experience, how much hair they plan to actually lock, what size locs they plan to install, how will they handle maintenance, price, how long they think the install will take, and how familiar they are with overall hair care.

This is such great feedback and I agree! In that debate, it comes down more so to the loctician themselves and their installation plan in comparison to the final look you hope to achieve. Bring some pictures to your consultation and ask them if you’d be able to achieve that look and listen closely to the response lol just like in my experience, it can tell you a lot about who’s the better fit for your hair goals!

Hi beautiful! It really ends up being loctician-specific. Some say sisterlocks costs more, but from what I’ve been seeing/hearing, it’s not so much of a difference these days. You can expect the same maintenance requirements/cost whether you get sisterlocks or microlocs. I’m posting a followup video soon to give more clarity so I’ll post it here once it’s done 🤎

I’m in the researching phase. Leaning towards microlocs… I have at least 8-9 in of hair but biggest thing is the cost 🥲 I understand it’s an investment but THOUSANDS seems like a lot.

Hi beautiful! I understand; it’s a sticker shock for sure! It’s really because of how long it takes to get installed. I did a comparison in my sisterlocks price reveal video of my typical hair maintenance cost vs the sisterlocks install price and that math made it make sense lol so I’d say to do a similar comparison to put it in another perspective. Also, yours might end up costing half of mine (hopefully!) 🤎

Still trying to decide what to get , Although I have trial locs on my head at the moment … still indecisive… price difference btw sister locs and micro locs here is £100 😅 …

Maybe the way the trial locs look by the time of install will help you decide! One other deciding factor I didn’t mention in the video is that sisterlocks look like locs (or even loose natural hair) right away rather than twists/braids. I heard others say they didn’t love how long it took for the twists/braids pattern to go away in their microlocs. If you have any preference there, maybe that’ll help too! Let me know what you end up choosing ☺️

I have a few questions. With the microlocs, there is no set grid. Do they interloc your hsir the same on reties? I see girls who start their microlocs with twists or braids then end up using interlocing or a twisted root method to 're-tie? Also that microlocs gives a fuller look than sisterlocs? I dont really get that part, unless this only works with the twist method? Im now womdering if they take the microlocs route because its cheaper, faster, etc. Is there a possibility that micro locs uding the twist or braid method to start, still be done on a sisterloc grid???(im in the UK)... 🙏🏾blessings ❤

Hey Christine! These are great questions! Microlocs could be interlocked the same as sisterlocks during reties, or they could be retwisted. It’s a choice you can make based on preferences of look and time it takes. Microlocs are usually a little bigger in size than sisterlocks so that can lead to the fuller look, but same goes, like you mentioned, if it’s retwisted (or even retied at a 2-3pt rotation instead of 4pt). The sisterlock grid is exclusive to sisterlocks though, so microlocs aren’t done using that grid, but can still be done on a very neat grid. I hope that helps!! Sometimes I think people like Sisterlocks so much because they want the lose natural look, hence wanting 400 licks on their head..... Way too many for me, but each their own. Thank you for sharing this video.

Hi beautiful! My loctician didn’t measure; she says she just goes by hair density/thickness. But I told her I wanted the smallest possible for my hair type and that’s what she did lol so it may depend on your hair type too as to which of those sizes you can get!

Can you undo sister locs of you wanted to or would you have cut your hair off?

To undo them, you can comb them out, but you will lose hair during the process, so your hair may not be as full at first

That’s definitely possible! Granted, she was veryyy talented and has a big following so I figured she’d be a great choice. With the consultations costing money, I was limited in how many I felt financially comfortable speaking to lol
