Closed Captions. I am hearing impaired, not totally deaf. I usually only watch an english language tv shows with closed captions. Especially if watching in company. If on my own, i can raise volume (within limits of other house members in other rooms), and I can rewind if I miss something. But I don't use them on your youtube channel. I don't need them. A. I watch you solo in lounge room on TV B. I have bluetooth speaker next to me if watching on my laptop or tablet in a different room or outside c. You speak very very clearly

I laughed so hard today! Arne's delight with his thrifting treasures and with his Halloween candy. So funny! It would be a great episode to go along with Arne to some of his favorite thrift stores to see what he takes home and what he leaves behind. This is just my favorite "show" to watch and I always try to save it for a day when I need to laugh!!

The metal racks that hold up fire logs are called “andirons”. We have throat singers in Canada - it is part of our indigenous population and we have some famous performers. Remember to trim the wicks on your pillars and “hug” the edges after you burn them. The rule of thumb for burn time is an hour for every 2.5 cm of diameter. I have been selling candles for twenty seven years - happy burning 🇨🇦🇫🇮
@k1bylandp2bysea37

What do you mean by “hug” edges. Thanks for info
@leeanutson1026
@leeanutson1026 2 жыл бұрын
@@k1bylandp2bysea37 A candle like a pillar candle, melts from the wick to the outside forming a puddle of wax at the top. If you let the candle burn too long, the liquid wax will pour down the side. So once it’s reached it’s maximum burn time, you should snuff it out let it cool a bit and then gently roll the edges in with your thumb and fingers to form a lip. This lip will help to prevent liquid wax from pouring down the side of the candle and making a mess. So in terms of inches, it’s one hour for every inch of burn. So a 3 inch diameter pillar candle, should not be burned more than three hours.
@leeanutson1026
@leeanutson1026 2 жыл бұрын
@@k1bylandp2bysea37 Also, I forgot to mention keep it out of the way of drafts and if you burn it in a glass hurricane or a container like that, you have to cut the burn time down because it just gets hotter.

Love the casual and random wander through your week, and appreciate your invitation to participate with comments.At 24:00, Arne’s sausage/book press is inspired! Exactly the sort of find that makes the heart sing. Regarding the last Setesdal installment in your garden with Kim, it was exactly right, relaxed, focused on the wonderful cultural experiences, bringing us slowly “home” with song -- after the intensity of the previous episodes, the change of pace was perfect. Thank you for inspiring your audience in so many ways. ☮️🕊

Andirons, or fire dogs, had been in use by the Ancient Greeks, and were called krateutai (Greek: κρατευταί).[7] Excavations made on the Greek island of Santorini unearthed stone sets of firedogs used before the seventeenth century BC. In each pair of the supports, the receptacles to hold skewers or spits were found in equivalence, while the line of small openings in the base formed a mechanism to supply the coals with oxygen so that they remained alight during its use.[8] Fire dogs were also referred to as moon idols (or moon horns)[citation needed][9] in antiquity. They may also refer to an artifact-type of late Bronze Age Europe (c. 1300 to 800 BC). Typically made of clay, they have been found in areas of modern France, Switzerland[10] and Germany; often associated with the Urnfield culture. This naming suggests that moon idols could have been used as andirons to build up fire dogs. In some cases, moon idols are a cult item of Early European Religions, resembling a pair of horns or crescent moons on a pedestal, and were variously interpreted as testifying to Bull worship, Moon worship, or as a holder for wooden logs to be used in a fire altar. Medieval andirons tended to be high, often with slots at the front for placing spits for roasting; in later periods similar styles remained in use in large kitchens. When the Italian Renaissance began to produce very elaborate decorated fronts for reception rooms, these remained higher than later, gradually tending to reduce in height until the 18th century.[2] Firedogs with little or no ornamentation and made of metal or ceramics were used in kitchens, with ratcheted uprights for the spits. Very often these uprights branched out into arms, or hobs, for stewing or keeping food hot.[4][11]

Even though it's sad to see the end of the Setesdal series it's so good to have a Sit and Knit for a Bit again. I always enjoy drinking my tea and listening to you talk about what you've been doing and buying. I love the boyish glee that Arne has for his shopping. It's a very dreary day here today and I had to put on my little heater because I was so cold. It's definitely turning to fall. I have to huddle under my quilt at night now and I'm wearing sweaters again. My little dog was groomed today and she is sitting right next to the heater because she is cold too. I'm glad you can enjoy your fireplace safely again.

Arne, I am sure that that “lost” bag of candy ended up in your stomach! Your unstructured videologs are perfect in their sponteneity, creativity and humor. For filming Norwegian cultural traditions, I wonder if you could get a grant for a documentary style film or short series. Probably a lot of work, but the material on Setesdal is invaluable. Stay well and use those Dracula teeth to scare those moose hunters away.

Birch smells lovely. Ash, once it gets burning, will burn all night in a stove. Pine is a quick fire, if it's dry. Poplar or Aspen and the oaks are a slow burn too. Pine twigs (or pinecones), birch kindling, a couple bigger pieces, then the Aspen, oak, maple or ash makes a good warm evening.

All good things must come to an end….so new ones can begin! 400 Candles!!! Lol. I met my match! I burn candles all of the time…my day isn’t complete unless my candles are burned…I light one first thing in the morning and at least one every night. I have a whole cabinet dedicated to my candles! I love seeing the candles when you burn them.

Andirons the English word. The other thing to stack wood inside the fireplace is grate. Here the wood we use is hardwood like oak or maple. Soft woods like pine contain a lot of sap that snaps and sparks. The other issue with using wood that has a lot of sparking is that it tends to build up creosote. Creosote lines the chimney and cause chimney fires.

Carlos, I can see you are very sad about your parents facing the challenges of aging. I went through the same thing with my parents. My father had tinnitus (ringing of the ears) and grew progressively hard of hearing. When I discovered he could no longer listen to music, it broke my heart. But I can tell you this: treasure the times you still have together. It will make your parents so happy. The older I get, the more I appreciate the little things like enjoying meals with my family, playing with the littler ones, and sharing stories from the past-especially good for people who aren’t so good at remembering anymore. God bless you and your parents!

So happy to be back and watching you guys! I only watch very high quality youtube videos since I don't have a lot of time. This made my day. My husband and I are exploring Central Coast of California as we moved there. So drama of moving and getting rid of my stuff took high priority. It was hard for me as I had to leave my mother who is 85 yrs old behind. She was invited to move this us yet refused. She wears an emergency alert plus there are Arlo cameras around that I can watch her during the day. Wishing Carlos' parents the very best in Sweden. Not easy to move! :-)
