Today's Nigeria is NOT the Nigeria I used to know in the mid 70's when Nigeria was really the Giant of Africa. In those years, when Nigeria spoke, France, Britain, and America trembled. Nigeria fought diplomatically for the decolonization of Africa and the end of apartheid in southern Africa, thus earning the position of a "Frontline State" even though located in West Africa. Those were the glorious years of Nigeria's foreign policy.

But that's actually how the US and the West play. The hegemons will do everything to bring down and destabilize any potential to expose their exploitation and neoclonial activities. Besides, it's not just for sovereignty but the often ignored role of those military bases ensuring the hegemons' companies stealing our resources unchecked. So, in that respect Nigeria actually deserves credit for even surviving thus far. The only safety for any African country is in the unity of a big part of, or the Africa as a whole.
