Siu Mai Recipe 燒賣食譜 | Simple Dim Sum Recipes 簡單點心食譜 | Siew Mai
Hey everyone, welcome back to g8stromania. Today we will be introducing an iconic dimsum recipe called Siew Mai or Shumai in the west. This dim sum favourite may look difficult to make, but it's actually really simple to learn and takes no time to make!
Here's the ingredients that you need:
250g fresh prawns
300g pork shoulder butt
120g siew mai skin
4 dried mushrooms
10g red carrots for garnish
Seasonings:
1 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp corn starch
0.5 tsp pepper powder
1 tsp chicken stock powder
Additional:
2 tbsp of corn starch to wash away gamey taste in pork
Some water
Steps:
1. Cut and prepare the meat, prawns and dried mushrooms.
2. Meat has to mix with 2 tbsp corn starch and 4 tbsp water. Sit for 15 mins before washing away to remove gamey taste.
3. Mix the meat, prawn and dried mushrooms together.
4. Add the seasonings prepared as above.
5. Mix evenly.
6. Fill the ingredients into the siew mai skin and close up from the sides.
7. Press lightly from the sides and shape the siew mai.
8. Top up some extra on the top.
9. Add carrots for garnish on top.
10. Steam at high heat for 10 minutes.
11. Ready to serve!
