If you start at level 1 with a weapon, you know only 1 skill. As you level up you learn more . At level 10 you know the basic 3 skills. So if you pick up a new weapon later you know 3 skills, and for 2 handed weapons you know all 5.

When the game initially released you had to use a weapon to unlock the next skill actually. They did away with this at some point, I don't know when, so that when you get a weapon it just unlocks all the skills with that weapon now.

They did it with the introduction of lvl boosts if I remember well. Since when you level boosted you would have to farm all weapons unlocked even tho you were way too advanced for the unlocks to make sense. To be fair, if you wanna be roleplay, you could say when you get a sword you learned how to use one from when you were young since everyone starts as an adult haha.

it's kinda tedious when you leveling up a weapon is meant to heal or some offhand weapon that only has long cooldown skill that's why it got cancel

It's actually still sorta in the game. When you first equip a new weapon, you'll notice some skills are locked, but a simple weapon swap, or unequip and reequip will unlock them.

The fact that you had to do that is actually what caused me to stick with it. I thought it was really interesting and a cool way to do it at the time. I love the wvw mode now,but at the time I was a purely pve player and probably wouldn't of even stuck with it if not for that function which really drew me in at the time.

The one thing I love about crafting in GW2 is that you really WANT to craft later to get your legendary. Legendary weapons in gw are actually legendary with special effects and they will never be powercrept. The only way to craft your legendary (aside from spending an ungodly amount of gold on the market place) is by slowly gathering all these super rare items, it feels like your character is growing and has to keep on going on adventures until you can finally craft that big dick sword that leaves smoshes on your screen as you swing it

Take the game slow or youll burn out relativly fast. Its still my personal favorite mmo because of the art style and the combat/gear/skill system, but im taking a break till the next addon gets released ^^

its worthwhile noting that the expansions MASSIVLY up the visuals aswell and add extremely interresting environments for mmos. Gw2 shines significantly more from the first expansion onward.

Please keep making GW2 content. This game is like a fine wine. I got back into it recently and having a blast. If you haven't clicked with it in the past, definitely give it another shot.

Levels are insignificant in guild wars, they make it insanely easy to level cap. Being level 20 means you've barely scratched the surface. There are some rough times ahead, all I'll say is they fixed these issues afterwards. Also dungeons are few and we're abandoned long ago and you'll see why. They have their own system now that works with their game.

Base game is just one big tutorial. I bought GW2 at launch, played for 2 months and then quit until HoT, then finally learn how crappy my gears and build stats to even survive in the jungle.

GW2 has been my MMO for the last 9 years. Like any MMO it has its issues, but I just love so many things about it there is nothing out there that compares.

@@brzozx7651 Ascended gear is not hard to get, you can get it from fractals, raids or craft it. Legendary gear is another thing, it's the same as ascended in terms of stats but you can change them as you want and the legendary gear is available to all your characters once you craft it once, but that's a long long grind. But you just need ascended, look up a build online or make your own and get the ascended gear with the stats you need.

@@brzozx7651 nope. If you want actual BiS gear (Ascended) there is a decent grind since it was introduced in response to people wanting more gear chasing. If you go the crafting route and craft your own daily crafting cooldowns it should take around 3 days a piece for a fresh new player, however that is just because of crafting timegates not real grind. You can buy full exotic gear (5% worse than ascended) right off the trading post, depending on the stat you want it could be fairly expensive for a new player or very very cheap. Power DPS BiS stat is mostly berserker stat combo and you can get a full set of zerker exotic armor for around 2.5g. weapons are similarly cheap for zerker costing a bit over a good for all your weapon slots to be in almost-BiS. Trinket slots are harder for a new player to gear since the really easy ways to gear them are in living world stuff mostly. I won't get to into the process but don't buy zerker rings since you can get them from fracts, and it's a bit over 10g mostly from the backpack to gear the other slots. The real money sink for pdps is scholar runes which are a bit over 20g (one hour on a good farm) for a full set, and weapon sigils will cost somewhere around 5g area. All in all you can get your armor and weapons from the gold you make while leveling up and by learning fractals you should have enough money to fill out the rest of your kit by the time you hit tier 2 fracts. Anyways you can do almost all of the content in the game in exotic gear including every raid.

8:10 Guild Wars 2 was like that on release. When you picked up a new weapon you had to kill X Enemies to unlock the next weapon skill. So maybe just 2-3 to get Skill 2 but then like 7-10 to get Skill 3 and so on. I liked that system alot as it eased you into it and made you feel like you were training with the weapon but I guess the majority didn't like it so they changed it to you just unlocking them all at once.

Fun fact Nixxiom. The 'light weapon' skill u mentioned was the first implementation of learning weapon skils back at release. It was very quick, but you had to use a weapon go unlock the 5 skills.

Progression can really be whatever you want it to be. If you want to go to the newest zone that you finally leveled up for, or even just camp the low level zones, both are viable. Even pvp can be progressing. I would also say that it's potentially worth investing in the xpacs now, as you can use some of the features right away, especially in pvp.

There's a few dragons out there that you can fight. Just like the other dynamic events, you just have to be there when the event starts or you miss out.

Well... GW2 opens up a lot and it changed a lot from expansion to expansion. You have still a lot to see. No rush though. The gear is supposed to last, so don't be surprised it will stop getting better after you hit max lvl

There is a LOT to do in this game. A brief look at the Achievements section in the Hero panel should show that.

Crafting was useful in the beginning when the game came out. Now it's more for getting ascended stuff, like the armor and weapons or foods. Later on for the legendary stuff if you want to craft it yourself instead of buying. Also you used to craft to level up faster. I used to do 6 crafts to level 400 to get a level 76+ character. It was cheap and easy in the beginning. Also you might want to do world bosses.

I always recommend path of fire for new players, even more than the main personal story. If you do PoF and you don't like the game then it's not for you

@@KokoKrunchs I was always borderline bored with the main story and even Hot. They weren't exactly my jam and I found them underwhelming. Pof was like the only expansion I felt was exciting and engaging. Also the story made sense without finishing previous extensions. The map with the desert nights is absolutely beautiful. I loved the vast open world. To me it is the peak of gw2

Guild wars 2 is like one of those games you try two times and immediately drop because they just don't click even if they suit your tastes on paper, but then you try them again a few years later and you get hooked.

About knowing all the weapon skills when you pick up a new weapon: IF you didn't equip a new type of weapon until late in the game, you would find yourself in a zone surround by level 80 mobs with 1 weapon skill to use until you unlocked the others. I think that would be worse than just automatically getting all of them.

I had never tried GW2! I think it’s great. You’re covering it because it’s actually quite a fun game and something different of an MMO compared to WOW. Having lots of fun being a newbie again and learning new things. Hoping this will be a game. I enjoy for quite a while. Please do more videos.

The game picks up more towards the late game. Core Tyria is just your first steps into the game. Crafting is important but you aren't using the gear you make early on till you get to ascended and Legendary crafting, its so that you can level your profession, give yourself xp and you can even sell some of the things you make at the black market for some cash. The story gets really good in the expansions so I suggest you try out at least one of them before doing another impressions video. Also when you get your elite specs that's when the real fun starts.

You can lvl up in anything .. Story Map completions... Ask a player to taxi you to a meta >_> People are really friendly.. I done it lots of times for little ones in ma 🐢..Pvp too gives lots of exp and books that grand you lvl ... you can completely ignore the story if you dont like that isn'tnecessary for lvl... But there are players that open group for story line and you can play it in a group if you hate solo content... Crafting isnt overwhelming.. After you've crafted your first set of ascended, you will Farm those recipes and pray for a drop 😂 Please give it a chance... its really a lovely game ❤

I play GW2 for the structure pvp, dont need gear, just build your character and go. Its very satisfying.

Spvp the 5v5 mode will scale you to 80 and unlock all your passives etc for you but in WvW it will not do that. So make sure you get to 80 and get all your skills unlocked and get into full exotic gear, speced properly etc.

Perhaps the BEST thing Guild Wars 2 offeres as a game, is NO Subscription Fees! You could play for free (but you'll get limit access to game content) or you can do a 1 time buy and play FOREVER! lol

There is DEFINITELY a huge character build customization. At max level, there are elite specializations (3 for now, newest expansion is bringing out a fourth), but the newest expansion allows you to use all weapons from all elite specializations, like running dagger main-hand and pistol or torch off-hand. I'd suggest trying out ranger, thief or necromancer if you want to try a different armor weight and intend to stick with GW2 (I may or may have self-plugged my main classes).

Story starts picking up once you reach certain treshold, and it has very interesting aspects. That is... if you have the living seasons packs, which costs money, ofc. All in due time. Don't be disappointed with crafting. It has it's purpose, and it's easy to understand. One of the biggest mistake ppl does when they play new MMO is... don't play GW2 as you would WoW, or FFXIV, or any other MMO, or you will feel miserable the whole way. Play it as you would play totally new game and try to understand it's system.

well, you should first finish 2nd expansion - Path of Fire .. it's very good and you'll get (almost) all mounts. Playing with mounts is about 1500% better experience ;) Every mount here has it's special purpose and movement and it's very fun just to ride or fly

I was a very long time Wow pause, -5 plus years. I finally gave this a try and I have to say, not going back to Wow. I Love the Horizontal progress and I Love that my toons are relevant. The combat, graphics and character development is incredible. I am a casual player and with that said,this game rewards me daily. I went back to Wow to see if it still held my desire to play and it couldn’t. I am not going back, Wow had me chasing carrots I could never catch up to. Not fun anymore, and even my wife plays GW 2 and she is done with Wow. Give this a try, there’s a reason many are discovering this without ANY advertising. Try it and you will LOVE GW2. ❤️🐜

with your concerns about crafting, the reason why it's more important later on is because the 6th gear rarity, Ascendancy, can only be crafted and with max level discipline (crafting levels) getting ascendant weapons is your fist steps to getting to the extremely high endgame

Gw2 took me a few goes at to really understand end game, but once you know that its a "Make your own adventure" in terms of the progression is what you want to do.. Not currently playing it, but its an mmo that you can come back to after a 2 year break and still be able to do all of the new content. Best mmorpg on the market overall, but if you want a gear treadmil, this isn't it.. Once you have the best gear, that's it unless you want to try different specs or classes. Purely a skill vs gear thing though.

You hit the nail on the head-feeling like an adventurer and incrementally learning more skills is the entire appeal of an MMORPG to me. It’s why the system FF has where you can just change class on a single character… or even here with picking up a weapon and knowing different skills all of a sudden… is really unappealing to me. So many games diminish the “RPG” side of things just for the sake of convenience and allowing everyone to do everything. This is a prime example of that. Having specialized roles and things only certain characters can do is what makes the world feel alive and immersive. Just like every doctor in real life isn’t also a lawyer and an astronaut and a plumber just by changing clothes… specialized, unique characters means not everyone can do everything, and it’s better that way. Although here it doesn’t look as bad as FF where you can literally just change classes. Idk. I play MMORPGs solely for the adventure/immersion factor and if I was concerned about having a wide array of action skills at the click of a button i would play an action game

8:06 Actually when the game first started they had a system like that. In order to learn a weapon you'd have to use it more. But then they standardized the game across China and not China regions So that was lost. Which was sad because it was really cool running around on your level three with All the greatsword skills.

I am not much for PvP and did not want to go anywhere near WvW, and yet ended up doing everything. Because! There is a purpose for it all! You truely start playing the game when you max your level. Do not think of it as any other MMO and give it a try, and stick around after an event (not the hearts that are basically quests), the events are chained

Played gw2 years ago and bought HoT expansion but never reach that zone because I was so bored playing in the free initial zone and finally I quit for good, heck I didnt even know how to get glider work @.@ But here I am today, youtube is recommending me on my page, so is the game getting better when I reach the expansion zone?

They are def way more enjoyable this way. I have recently been looking for groups that basically say "need help" and joining those. Simply b/c watching them explore it is far more interesting than "zerging" through it at this point.

I got back into it because it is easy to play it and play other games. People do the old raids even, so there’s no FOMO. My favorite part is that you can basically min/max your play style and the raids are mainly for cosmetic reward. This means it’s hard to fall behind, but doing the content is still rewarding. I thought I would miss the gear treadmill, but don’t. The older content is never fully obsolete like in WoW.

Played many MMOs mainly WoW and ESO and once I started GW2 I couldn't go back 🌈 When I restart other MMOs I litteraly DIE from boredom 🐸 The world feel sooooo much more alive 🌞🌞🌞

Do the hearts they do sometimes sell weapons and armor + it gives you little bit of xp and karma :) What type of weapon or armor u will get depends on where in the world you are because different races have different styles :)

Played GW2 since a few weeks after launch(once they released more coppies). WvWvW was great, I am not a big PvP player and arenas (do they call them BG now or since the beginning?) were not for me. Farmed my legendary weapon, had a lot offun with jumping puzzles and other in world, dynamic events brought life into the world. Massive dragon fights were not much fun, but you gotta farm then if you want those weapon skins. But most fun I had with dungeons. Tranaforming my Norn Guardian from support to glass cannon, speed running dungeons with full party of glass cannons, that combat was great. Then release of Fractals, climbing Fractal levels oh it was the best! But guildies stopped playing, in the end it was me and one guy logging in and out for AH trading, my irl friend that dragged me into GW2 stopped playing not long after reaching max lvl(missed holy trinity and PC could not handle WvWvW), so I stopped playing before next expansion, never comming back. I should wake up my Guardian from coma when I get down time next time. Yes, I do.

I bought (before the 1st expansion) GW2 and never managed to be able to craft anything useful to me in game over a period of 3 months of play. Have they changed the crafting system or is it still pretty much the same?

some minor things: Professions are the "classes" like warrior, 'crafting prefessions' called disciplines. (some wording) ;) also, long ago, weapon skills were unlocked by killing a number of mobs. but that system was discarded, because it was more frustrating than fun, when you equiped a weapon, with an alt character, and realise you don't have skills....

Did they fix the launcher? I tried to give this another shot a few weeks back and there was a "known issue" where the launcher would get stuck updating, making the game inaccessible.

Next time, before you go into PvP, setup your pvp gear and skills Also a warning, dungeons are not like other games' dungeons. If you want something like that, try fractals after lvl 80. And lastly: leveling crafting also gives xp

Look up the legendary greatsword Exordium. It changes form based on the type of attack you use.

You should try raiding once you get to max level and geared up, it's the most enjoyable raiding system I've seen in an mmo, also, world metas, you gotta try those, it's dynamic events taken to a whole other level. Dungeons where kinda abandoned, instead you have fractals, much more fun imo. Progression in this game is completely different from other mmos, once you get to level 80 and gear up you have a horizontal progression, you unlock new stuff that changes the way you play, like the mount system, or the elite specialisations, gliding. The story also gets much much better with the expansions, and combat gets a lot harder and a lot more fun. I main mirage, so open world combat is kinda set to easy mode anyway 😂

I currently play both WoW and GW2. I log in to WoW to do Chores. Even in DF, there's a bunch of stuff I have to do. In GW2, there's an endless supply of things I *want* to do. Places I *want* to explore. Zones I *want* to complete. Dungeons and Fractals I *want* to experience. Achievements and legendaries I *want* to hunt down. I still think WoW combat is king and the gameplay loop is fun, but GW2 breaks so many preconceived notions of what I thought an MMO had to be and opens the field on what an MMO -can- be. tl;dr GW2 requires a mental shift but if you're willing to acknowledge that, the ceiling for what an MMO can be completely opens up.

Guild Wars 2 basically has everything anyone would ever want in an MMO. There's very little wrong with it. I'm not sure what it is about GW2 though, but I always find myself going AFK or just turning off the game. I never get hooked into it.

I just got my skyscale in gw2 , and its completely different game :) after you get your flying mount everything will change ;)

I was like that for years, I totally feel you. Even to this day I don't have a ton of time to play but I sometimes stay up for a bit after my wife and kids go to bed to have my own gaming time. Life can be pretty crazy!

Gw2 is very casual friendly, as the gear doesn't get more powerful after new dlc. So even if you don't play for a year or two. You can jump into the game again and still haven't been left behind.

@@GauteAnimationNorway Yep and this is one huge reason why I have dropped other MMOs. Still play some Old School RuneScape though! I strictly play GW2 for this QOL feature and of course there are many other awesome things about GW2 that keep me tied.

Weapons used to be like you said that you need to unlock the skills by using it. They got rid of it a few years ago

Leveling up to 80 almost made me quit few times, [did it without raptor] the story was super meh, but god damn exploring and swapping skills and weapons was quite fun. Aaand after 80 the real game began :)

I hop into gw2 every once in awhile but only to play the PvP. The battlegrounds is just the best imo.

as someone who played at launch, I was pretty disappointed, I liked to play healers, I was one of the best PvP healers in the original guildwars and since there was no such thing as effectively healing others at launch, i hated it. I came back when HoT released, played for about 6 months or so, it had become better, but it was still missing something. It has become so much better than it was at launch, I think current gw2 is far superior than it ever has been before, for the first time in gw2 history every spec can be useful in end game, you don't have to have 2 chronos, 2 warriors, 2 druids for everything, boons are available on pretty much every class, big damage IS available on every class. The balance team has finally caught up, and I hope it continues to be great for years to come.

Fun story i got in this game by seeing montages of super duper ele mains got the game and im enjoying 4years have passed and as for personal story i started it after a year of playing i didnt even knew there was one X) .I WAS THERE FOR THE COMBAT i guess

Just like any MMO everything opens up at max level. Also the elite classes make everything so much more fun. Best part it doesnt take long to level in comparison to FF14.
