I played WoW since the begining until pandas dlc. Quit wow, gave GW2 a try after some years, now Im 4/5 years in and loving guild wars 2 so much, every moment of it. My personal opinion is, GW2 beats wow at any corner, every pixel and any second of it all. After gw2 experiance, I feel like blizz stole my money. If you need any help in GW2, I would gladly share my knowledge.

As a veteran GW2 player it's always nice to see new players starting the game and it's also nice to see the new player experience nowadays as well. I feel like the game could do a better job at showing & explaining the "deposit materials" button in the inventory and how salvaging items works. It's prob a little annoying having tons of story unlocks popping up non stop as a new player (sure i guess it only happens if you bought the expansions and stuff but still.) I hope you continue to have fun in the game & good luck!

it took me almost 250 hrs to understand how to get new crafting recipes. the few vids about it also do little to show how it works.

Honestly it's one of the things that kept me away from the game for so long, so many things explained poorly or just not at all. Jumping back in now with a fresh character and enjoying it. I haven't looked at crafting or any of the end game systems yet so we'll see.

the game gives lots of help, but, those certain few things, they are making us help each other. Honestly I think its brilliant. They hold your hands all the time thro play, but if there is a chance of you having to interact with other players, they will push you into it any chance they get. One fact is that people in gw2 are so much nicer than you know already.

A few tips that may help: 1) There is a button in your inventory that, when pressed, deposits all of the crafting materials into your bank material storage tab. Great thing to note because you'll definitely need a decent amount of materials later on. (Also the cap on each material in the storage starts at 250 (i.e. one stack's worth), and can be increased as of writing this to 2500 by buying more storage in the cash shop. 2) Learn what crowd control effects your build can put out. If you start getting into dungeons, and even moreso once you hit the max level zones, you'll see enemies with blue bars under their health that need to be depleted using crowd control, and there are many high end fights that rely on depleting the bar as soon as possible. So this is about as important to note as your DPS in many cases. 3) Try out different weapons whenever possible. Aside from the base amount of proficiencies, you can get three (soon to be four) extra proficiencies for your class in the expansions. While initially you will be restricted by the elite specializations, the most recent expansion, Secrets of the Obscure, does unlock those weapons to be used account-wide on all characters regardless of spec once you complete the first bit of the story. 4) Exploration is king when it comes to leveling in GW2. Doing events and doing map completion are your main sources, but I also recommend doing story as you get it as well as looking into the Character Adventure Guide achievements since those also give lots of experience. 5) If you ever want to test the elite specs or even a class at level 80, go to the PvP lobby instead of using a lv 80 boost. It is free and unlimited unlike the boosts, and can be done at pretty much any level. 6) Once you do hit 80, go check out a build on Metabattle or GuildJen's site (Snowcrows work too, but their builds are more geared towards high-end endgame content unlike the other two options that cover all game modes including open world builds), choose a build, and get a full set of exotic gear off of the trading post. You'll want to work towards Ascended eventually, but exotic gear with the right prefixes and the right runes, sigils, and (preferably) relic will get you 95% of the way there at max level. There are other things, but those are a few of the main tips I would give to new players. :)

@@Thematicz Oh, another thing. The initial waypoint in each of the main races' starting zones is unlocked automatically on each new character, and each of those are 1-15 (with a 15-25 zone adjacent to them), so once you complete one map, you can just go to another and rinse and repeat!

The game may be overwhelming at first but the community will help u ever step of the way and discord with people who play will help a hell of a lot they can explain alot of things to help u get going this game is great u can play any way u want if your pve/pvm focused ul want to do fractals/strikes/raids/open world even farms for money and progress Alot of the end game is unlocking legendarys there basicly max boa armor so all characters can wear it at once of that armor/weapon class being trinkets are the most important due to all armor and weapon specs can use legendary accessories/trinkets Also gear color in this game is a little different From worst to best Blue Green Yellow-rare Orange-exotic all u need to do raids/strikes{mini raid} Red-ascended(needed for fractals)-aka mini dungeons Purple-legendary Alot of information i know but ive played alot of mmos and this game is soo amazing because it never feels repetitive even if u do the same world bosses and the same strikes and the same fractals theres alot of things u can change ur focus to like map events gather up currency and items for collections and wvw is required sadly gor legendary weapons inless you buy them sadly,but wvw is easy u join a commander and run around for a hour or 2 and then take a break :) If your pvp focused spvp legendary back peice is very easy to get once u get a grasp of the crafting and achievment system Pve Fractals are your path for back peice And professions u can do em all on 1 character and doing it befor lvl 80 is actually really useful because it levels your character so doing that as u get materials is useful to help u reach end game a little quicker

The guild wars community is one of the more friendly mmo community I've known! There's a lot to learn, but this game is super casual friendly, so no worries on rushing to learn everything at once. If you ever have something you don't understand, type /m in the chat to toggle map chat to ask any questions, there is always someone bound to answer! Hope you have fun with the game

Renown heart NPCs become merchants when you complete the heart, you can sell your junk to them. Aquabreathers are for underwater breathing. We have underwater zones with underwater combat. How color-coded names work: Green name - friendly - never attack you, and you can't attack them Yellow name - neutral - don't attack you unless you attack them first Red name - aggro - will always try to attack you if you are 1. in their line of sight or 2. they sense you nearby Skills change depending on the weapon equipped Skill bar layout: 1-3 main hand 4-5 off hand 1-5 (if having a two-handed weapon equipped like a greatsword) 6 heal 7-9 utility skills 0 - ultimate F1, F2, F3, etc. are your profession specific skills, you unlock more of them as you level up big red circle - health bar gold bar - endurance, used for dodging and skyscale wall leaps

You can use a boost on another class you're interested in, or if you don't want to at all you can create another guardian of the like to use it on, and just delete it after. You'll get access to the shared inventory slots they occupy, which is nice when you get mote characters. But you also get a lot of helpful items from it, including level 80 armor for that class.

Best advice is play till 80 on your first toon, you'll get level boosts and a 80 boost you can use on another character. That way you see the entire story at least for the race you chose. Each race has different stories. As a pre-launch wow veteran I keep getting drawn deeper into this game. I have 3 toons now, Guardian, Necro, Ranger and having a blast and when you get tired of one grind you can swap toons and work another grind and your level 80's you can have in different stories grinding up different masteries because masteries are shared. This game absolutely respects your time invested and has the best alt system I have seen ever. I remember playing GW1 because we did some stories on the gaming network I freelanced for, but kinda wish I kept up with it because despite them beating blizzard for content droughts the gameplay was enough to keep people playing all that time and now they're getting into a tempo that's going to bring fresh content on a quick cadence so pretty sure despite what's going on in wow, I can just watch it from a distance and enjoy my time in GW2. Especially as someone who got addicted to New World's combat, GW2 is close enough and the pvp is soo much better on your mental health lol. Also recommend watching Mukluk, Laranity, CaffinatedDad, and MightyTeapot for the good tutorials on things.

Thanks! I honestly loved seeing the game world, and the aesthetic is cool. My favorite thing, was that I got to pick a mini backstory for my character. I will most definitely be playing more GW2, and they gave me 3 level boosts; so I guess I can use them later on alts, but I want to really experience the game, so not using it on the main 😁

@@Thematicz Backstory dictates the selection of missions for the first few chapters of core levelling. And in later expansions, sometimes they do dialogue changes depending on which backstory you chose. Makes you really feel like your history means something. :)

@@ThematiczYes. Not by too much though, but the fact that it even has just a little bit of bearing is noteworthy in itself. There are other things though that completely change the experience, such as playing a certain race in one of the expansions, but you'll see that if you get there :D

Tip: if you want to use a level boost, try out the class in the pvp lobby. Once you complete the tutorial with a character, you can enter the pvp lobby(its one of the icons in the top left). There are training dummies to practice with and you get boosted to max level with access to every elite spec and weapon that the class can use. Its a great way to get the feel of a class before using a boost. Also, welcome to the game! Hope you enjoy it.

When you use the boost, it puts you in The Silverwastes at level 80. From there you have to confirm it before the boost is consumed, so you can just test out the classes there - no need to mess with the pvp lobby (which has different skill balancing, etc)

@@sl5945 You're right about that, however the level 80 boost in Silverwastes doesn't give you the Elite Specializations to test out if I recall correctly.

@@sl5945this is true, but pvp does give access to everything, including being able to choose different stats to try out a lot easier, as well....yes it's not exactly the same but it will give you a much better understanding of each elite spec.

My tip: Instead of equiping gear from the inventory, open the hero panel (H) and the equipment tab. You can click on each slot to see everything that you can equip in your inventory for that slot. It's easier to compare items that way if you have multiple choices in your inventory. For instance, that aquabreather is headgear but it's for underwater combat and goes in a different slot than your helmet. Also, at some point you will find stat selectable gear. You will need to right click and select "customize" to choose stats for the item. I think it takes most new players a while to figure that one out.

Weapon swapping is something that's not just kinda cool, It's a core mechanic of the game and your skill rotations. The skill cooldown of your weapon (left side of the bar) skills is not shared between your two weapon sets (unless you have the same kind of weapon - greatsword, shield, mace, whatever - equipped in both weapon sets). Meaning that if you swap to your other weapon set after using your skills and they are on cooldown, your skills from the second set will be ready to use, and the the skills from your first weapon set will continue to cool down while you are not using it. Gameplay of most classes and builds involves swapping often between your weapon sets to utilize all 10 weapon skills available to you as well as possible. Swapping itself has a cooldown, so the decision when to swap your weapons becomes very important when you react to bosses and the state of your team. Maybe one of your weapon skills has a block skill, or an important mobility ability, while using the other skill set frequently is important to keeping your team buffed or debuffing enemies, but leaves you more open to some of the more dangerous boss attacks etc. Or one set being melee only but having more sustain, while the other set is ranged (and so more versatile and safer to use in some situations) but only being good for outputting a short burst of damage. So if you spent your burst too early, you won't be able to do anything while the boss is doing its whirlwind attack or something, but being too hesitant will leave your burst unused and have you deal less damage overall. This makes builds in GW2 range from almost brainless, to very complex and hard to use effectively, especially when class mechanics start chiming in. You will see that each class has some skills for the right side of your skill bar that grant passive bonuses when they are off cooldown, encouraging you to not use them too often, maybe except for an 'oh shit' situation. These are not there just for the lols, many builds get too busy or leave you too overwhelmed to effectively use all 5 skills on that side of the bar. BTW: Guardian was a pretty good pick for a first character. depending on build, they can serve as a buff dps, full dps, healer, and tank, making them very versatile, and particularly their healing and tanky variants are pretty much always wanted in LFG.

Yea, I saw the skill floor was low for guardian, and it worked out, cuz I normally main a "paladin-type" character; they're my favorites. I was curious as to how important/useful weapon swapping was gonna be when I took a look at all the weapon abilities. You can swap weapons in WOW also, but they don't generally matter as much outside of pvp, and usually just to shields. It's interesting to know it's a core mechanic here...cuz I'll tell you, once I realized I could equip a greatsword instead of just a 1-handed and shield all the time, I was super hype 😁

There are no tanks in guild wars 2, during raids some bosses will prioritize a player with highest amount of toughness stat, which is usually a support that can heal and provide boons from afar and took more toughness. The closest to being a tank are bruiser builds that focus on self-sustain and melee combat, like untamed ranger or reaper necromancer. That being said, guardian like many other classes can fill every single role in the game effectively, from pure dps, boondps to a healer.

Man, the onboarding for new players is so janky. It's pretty wild how all those story unlocks get all in your face at the beginning. I can imagine plays can easily start following a late game story and then have no idea how to switch it. Good video! Always interesting to see a blind first impression

In case you'll make alts it can be good to know that: - every class is available on every race - race is only cosmetic AND changes almost the first half of core game story (and gives some useless racial skills) - every class have long, middle and close range weapons, and most can hot-swap between two mid combat - every class have specs to be more damage, debuffs, buffs or healing oriented (and any in-between that you want) - The character name can have spaces, allowing you to do things like Name Surname - bank, gold, achievements, dyes, skins and any unlock are shared between characters aside from map and story completion Hope it helps if you will keep going at it 😊

One thing that puts me off ALOT is the fact that you pretty look the exact same throughout leveling. No noticeable gear changes. That’s why I love wow. You look so much cooler at max lvl than you did at lvl 1

I have played GW2 since launch and I still love playing it. But I absolutely love watching people play it for the first time. Hearing how excited they get, and how "new" the whole thing is brings back memories of when I first started playing. Such a good game.

Welcome to Tyria! On top of what people have already adviced, only sell junk to merchants and unsalvageable items. They rip you off majorly on prices for gear and such. Everything else you want either to salvage with appropriate salvage kit or sell on trading post. Basically don't do the typical wow/la2/etc. of sell loot to merchants

bro you missed the action cam, it makes it so the game plays like a over the shoulder action game so no more using the right click to move camera. it makes playing melee classes SOOOO much easier. its enabled in options also with action cam the basic skill (aka 1) is left click

I cannot recommend against action cam enough, especially if you're coming from WoW. It will not feel good, and it has limitations that have real effects in combat. No harm in giving it a try of course!

Funny enough it wasn't until level 70 till I discovered that theres a deposit crafting materials to storage button in my inventory tab. I thought I had to go to the actual bank merchant NPC. Good times

Usually when wow players start playing GW2 they come with the "baggage" from that game, habits that sometimes are detrimental. 1. Get used with positioning while attacking , move around. 2.Dodging is your friend, get used with it. 3. Try to get rid of the "rush to lvl cap because that's where the game begins" mindset (a typical wow mindset) , take GW2 easy, it doesn't have vertical progression, that means you can relax while playing, you are not missing out if you don't rush, everything you work towards will be as important if you log in 5 years from now. 4. A very WoW thing to do is playing with the camera zoomed out like playing diablo , try and play the game like a 3d person game (like the witcher) , GW2 is a beautiful game and staring at the ground you will miss a lot of beauty.

Welcome to GW2! Fun fact about Humans. In the Tyrian lore, Humans were brought to Tyria by their gods and are not native to the world. So far from being the standard boring "vanilla", lorewise Humans are basically aliens that colonised part of Tyria :D

always good to see wow players coming over. A small tip, enjoy the journey! So many try to min max off the bat. Your first character play it with noob rose colored glasses. Youve 10 years of content to go through and it can easily take ya 2 years to get it done. Also everything gives you experience! there is no kill stealing so if you need a mob, hit the mob. 3 people can hit it and all 3 get loot. 1-80 is a bit of a dredge but its great the first time around. really shows you the play style of your character. Welcome to tyria. Also unlike WOW use the community chat and ask for help! You will get 20 people to message you to help!

Hello and welcome to Tyria! It's a good idea to get comfortable with dodging as early as possible as it'll be essential to your survival as the game progresses and the content gets more challenging. Generally: Red circles are bad :D As you may have noticed the game does not have the typical qesting system. Instead literally everything you do, exploring, completing events, gathering resources, crafting nits you XP, gold and loot. Also, your effective level will be scaled to the area you're in so even as you gain level you the starting areas remain valid to spend time in, if you so choose. You'll soon receive salvaging tools, which allow you to salvage gear and weapons into crafting materials, rather than selling them. It's not so much relevant for starter level items, but it'll become ever more relevant as you progress. Regarding the mounts, you can summon your current one via the X key, in the settings you can assign each mounts to a separate key or key combination.

I havent played GW2 since its first major content update - i really enjoyed it. Even though I havent played it for years, watching this made it seem like just yesterday because I find myself remembering everything. Welcome to Tyria!!! Most people have given their gameplay tips already, so I have one on the monetization of this game: the quickest way to get gems is yes, through real money, but you can also trade in game currency for gems as well! and nothing is pay to win, everything shop wise will be more just fun cosmetic stuff and a few quality of life things such as gathering tools or extra character/bank/inventory slots.

Throw traditional classes put of the window when choosing what to play. Think of the professions as character themes, because I'm fairly certain at this point, all professions have an outlet for all roles. Also, tanks aren't really a thing, healers do so much more than just heal, and everyone can help in groups. GW2 is by far the best game for a solo player who likes to do big group stuff. Just go do it, and other Wil (more than likely) be there to help.

guild wars 2 can be not too beginner-friendly and i was sceptical when i started, but now it is my favourite game of all. also the story is pretty dope (even if it has some arguable parts), it is very simple at beginning but gets *M U C H* better later. for story matters, here is a chronological order: base game story > living season 1 > living season 2 > heart of thorns > living season 3 > path of fire > living season 4 > icebrood saga > end of dragons > secrets of the obscure.

I am still less than 3 mo in to GW2 and have fallen hard. Just got my 2nd character to 80, have #3 in progress and plans for 4 and 5. Nice to just play different races and classes to se the stories and try our different styles/skill sets. Hope you have a lot of fun!

Actually, my mic was on max volume, but my headsets audio is kinda bombastic; so that's why I have to lower the volume on every game 😅

I know, I turned it down a bit into the video. As I explained to others here, my headset audio is insane, and overtakes the mic, even when at max. I have to do this with every game.

Guild wars 1 and original 2 have incredible Art direction, World building, gameplay and music. Unfortunately I don't think you'll get that ever again lol.

I am in a similar position but as a FFXIV player. I stopped playing Wow after MOP came out, discovered FFXIV and that has been my main game for ages. Just got into GW2 recently and I am loving it. It has all the things FFXIV does not and all the things 14 isn't great at - GW2 is and vice versa. Playing both at the same time is perfect.

GW2 is hard compared to WoW. I love GW2 and play it. I have played WoW for 15 years, FFXIV for 10 and GW2 since 2012. GW2 is massive and honestly when you get lvl 80 there is 100 times more things to do. It is like WoW and FFXIV merged and then anything players off mmorpgs asked for got shoved in. PvE, PvP, WvW, dungeons, raids, fractals (like mythics), strikes, zone events, crafting, achievements, the story, mastery system, builds. it is endless.

Never boost your first character, that's a geenral rule, it will ruin your experience. No matter what character you choose to play, first level one normally, to the lvl cap, as intended, then think about boosting.

In WoW you're used to some junk item at the anniversary. In GW2 there are pretty useful items tied to the anniversary of each of your characters. So first this means that you will have to wait 11 years for the anniversary items you see other players having right now. But second since this is separate for each character always make sure to fill all your character slots with alts you'll want in the future or donkeys. The free feast is going to take an eternity to unlock sadly because Anet does not care about catch up mechanics or promoting elitism. But at least by now filling all your char slots you can start farming the 12h boosters.

Everything dies so fast and does no dmg in the non-expansion areas... they need to increase every enemies health and dmg by like 5 times

Revenents aren't really like Necromancers, they're more like Channelers... Is there anything in WoW like that? Where you invoke the name of ancient heroes in order to draw upon their legacy/powers? You're not raising them from the deal or summoning their soul, you're just knocking on their gravestone going "Hey buddy, can you possess me so I can gain access to your powers?"

The closest thing I can think of is the Monk class, but it's invoking the spirit guardians of Pandaria, so not exactly. Revenant seems to be more unique to GW2, which is why it's gonna be my next character :D

Such a drop to go from a complex MMO with rotations, difficult mechanics, 3hr raids, theory crafting etc to a 5 button mmo. It's tantamount to playing 3d Chess then going to Draughts.

your problems come from your camera position. You are playing it like Diablo, Path of Exile, etc. where the camera is from the top position. MMORPG your camera should look straight to actually see what is going on in front of you. You don't see events in front of you all the time. And it is hard to watch too. Good luck though on your journey. This game is awesome.

I actually prefer the slanted over top view, as it allows me to get a better view of my surroundings for dodging mechanics etc...b/c I do a lot of dungeoneering as well 😀
