Pagan i is a million miles away from a Rolex in quality,however a Steinhart is 10 miles away from a Rolex, even though you paid far too much for your Rolex you will eventually be able to sell it and get all the money back! Even Steinhart will go up, for value Steinhart is amazing Steinhart is the sweet spot.

Nice insight! I think the difference with Rolexes though is that their pricing is very similar to the pricing of Bitcoin. They’ve been given a value by society unrelated to their actual worth. I think many buyers do not purchase a Rolex to wear, they buy hoping to make a future profit. And there will always be those rich enough to buy a Rolex, not as a watch lover, but merely to enhance or affirm their image and status in the world. I think you may be in another owners’ group: those who admire and appreciate a finely made horological instrument and want it to become an integral part of their lives.

I agree. Watching this on a Saturday morning, I really really enjoyed your video, it had interesting content (esp. since I had to sell my genuine Submariner a few years ago to lend the money to someone close to me and am thinking about buying the San Martin V3 homage), your honest opinion is valued, you style and gentle charisma is refreshing and it was just a perfect, perfect video. Bless you and your family during these distressing times! 👍🏻

Love the way you deliver your videos. In a second language too. Great job! An interesting perspective. I’m not a badge snob about anything I buy. What is on offer for the money is important to me and I would call that value. Probably before I’ve worked that out, there’s the emotional response. If the watch really speaks to me, and the value box is ticked, the price itself is not that important.
@backintimewatches

Endo Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m really glad that you liked the video and I hope to deliver more videos of equal quality 😊 It means a lot to me that people actually like the stuff I put out. I’m with you in the emotional response. That’s probably the biggest factor when deciding to buy a watch.

great video my friend! really informative and gives you stuff to think about. I am actually looking for a submariner homage. At the moment I am thinking about the San Martin or the Pagani. Thanks you and thanks for watching 🙏 Even though I made this comparison I’d have to choose Steinhart over a Pagani every day of the week. Don’t get me wrong, Pagani is fantastic for its price and for what you get, but there’s no denying you’re buying a more quality watch with the Steinhart. Better water resistance and great warranty and customer service is worth much in my eyes.

Buying a Rolex GMT is not always irrational or insane. Just because there are cheaper/more affordable watches doesn't mean that those watches are the right choice. Like you said, if you know the brand, or care about the materials or history - and you enjoy their effortless designs, it's no contest to try to settle for something inferior (or undesired just because it's "sensible"/cheaper). Also, the journey of collecting or striving for the ultimate grail watch, the saving, the extra jobs, the hustle, the success and then the reward - that's a pretty BIG deal. To show the restraint and the focus to put aside that cash and stay true to your vision - and then the luck finding the right one, at the AD or online. It's not a small task and it can define character and outlook in the hobby. I say this while also acknowledging that the irrational purchase is when there are higher priorities like bills to pay or mouths to feed, or its a struggle - that's when it's harder to justify, or just plainly the wrong decision in that moment. But otherwise, if you have the money and you worked hard it's not anybody's place to take that away from you and dictate what you "should" have spent your own money on.

Thank you for your video - I really enjoyed it. Also Im happy for you and your wife 😊 But I what I missed from your video to actually review the watches. Like how much is the quality difference? For example if you buy a phoibos, you pay half the price of steinhart, but what's better in the steinhart is the finishing, overall quality etc. etc. So we could actually have a good sense when to "stop" going up for everyone individually
@backintimewatches
@backintimewatches 3 жыл бұрын
Hi :) Thank you for watching and commenting, it really means a lot to me :) I actually talk a bit about the differences between the watches, the movements, material used on steel, bezel, glas etc. In the end my point is that it doesn´t really matter how much a watch costs. If you want it then you want it. The price doesn´t matter since I buy with my heart. I point out that in several of these watches the same material is actually used, and still the price difference is steep. So basically, you pay a lot for the brand on the watch... As for the specific point of quality on the finishing I can never actually tell... Sure, if a watch is terribly finished I could see that, but I´m not looking at the macro-level that some KZfaqrs do. I have reviews out on all of these watches as specific videos on my channel so I didn´t want to make this video in the same vein as a reveiw :)

I wish you talked about which is the best homage... I'm torn between the Steinhart, Davosa and Ginault ... I wish the Ginault had the Mercedes hands.. but it seems to be better quality than the others and I would pay more for that... the Steinhart looks amazing, but I think that movement is not the best and you will gain or loss many seconds a day... The davosa I've tried on and its thicker than the Steinhart.. and the bracelet doesn't tapper... It seems if I want a quality watch for the value that will last very long, it seems worth it to just pay for the Ginault..

The lesson is that time is more valuable than money. You can always make more money if you set your mind on it, but you can rarely buy more time. But most important, learn to appreciate life, give thanks for what you have, be kind to others and don’t sweat the small stuff. Life is shorter than you think, something that is hard to appreciate until you are too old to do much about it.

First only the iso 6425 watch which is the ginault but also the Rolex are really waterproof to the dept stated on the watch. Probably that is why the Ginault is twice the price of the Davosa. The Pagani, the phoibos the steinhart and the davosa are most likely not iso 6425 so the actual maximum waterproof dept is far below what they stated. there is a test done in which the pagani and the phoibos where tested and both came out the same. after the test they tested the pagani until it failed which was at 7bar (70meters) due to the mineral glas of the back plate which broke. they even unscrewed the crown and it held up till 5bar. so assuming any numer on waterproof is not nice. further both the pagani as the phoibos are using a japan movement. the Seiko NH35-a is as good as a movement as the miyota 9015 is. it is a very durable movement a real workhorse so to speak. also the pagani uses screws in the links instead of pushpins. so in my mind if you make a comparison at least try to state facts and no assumptions. But anyway i liked the video and your look at the value aspect. here is a link to the explanation of iso 6425 😉www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwja9bT4nY7sAhUEsaQKHSEjCiAQFjABegQIARAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FDiving_watch&usg=AOvVaw0kFX5jmpVJiqsjy4sJL7__

Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏 I really appreciate the comment and I actually learned something new from it 👍 Now, to my explanation... This was not a comparison in the way of these six watches vs each other, winner takes all. This was only to show what you get at different price points. So my intention was never to find the “best” watch in every category, since they all have pros and cons. I did a full review of the Pagani in another video, and in that video I talk about the screwed links and water resistance. But somehow I didn’t feel it was necessary to talk in depth about the bracelet and screws in this video since it’s already a great watch for the money you pay. And I actually forgot the water resistance and confused it with Parnis. And I have actually read on several forums that the Pagani watches are not water resistant at all so who actually knows. Seems that someone has good luck and gets a water resistant Pagani, and someone doesn’t. Either way, iso-ratings and water resistance is not anything I find important when buying a watch and that’s why I don’t give it much time on this video. Most people don’t ever dive with their watches and those who do usually only do some mild snorkeling and nothing else. About the Ginault, I don’t actually think that it’s possible that a iso-certification can cost $800 so I don’t really know why the watch should be double the price of Davosa only because of iso... 🤷‍♂️ And about the NH35 vs 9015, you can do a quick googling and easily find that most actually prefer the 9015: “9015, by a lot. NH35A would be closer to an 8200 series Miyota. The 9015 is flatter and a good bit more accurate out of the box. (-10 to +30 for the 9015, -20 to +40 for the NH35.)” “Yuge fan of the 9015, my favorite movement, head and shoulders above the NH and Also the 6r15. The 9015 is thinner, lighter and has a higher and smoother beat rate, no brainer.” “The NH35 is a 7S26 with a hacking arm. The 7S26 is used in the Seiko 5, Seiko's cheapest and almost disposable watch. Other than the Invicta, there are no disposable watches with the 9015 in it.” And I have had similar experiences with these two movements so I actually prefer the Miyota. But to each his own 😊 Thank you again for your comment.

@@backintimewatches don't the miyotas make a hell in of a noise? I heard one on a voice & though ,' ouch!' Btw, my SKX is an ISO certified diver & didn't cost alot then. Where's the proof about the Pagani nit having actual NH35s? Cheers.

Nice to hear that you have a good sense of humor 😂 But did I actually say that? Did I say more recognized? I know I said they’ve been around for a longer time , which they have, but I can’t remember saying that they are more recognized... If I did, please tell me where in the video. You’re right, they’re absolutely not. Partly because of the controversy. But if I didn’t... Shame on you 😉 Thanks for watching 🙏

The difference on the price for rolexes and the rest is.... the rolex will grow in value overtime... The rest you lose value the moment u uses them.... So, if you have 10k in your bank, why not buy a rolex and see it grow from years to come then see the Dollar value drops everytime the fed cuts rate.....

You’re absolutely right 😊 But that is only correct if you’re lucky enough to buy the Rolex at an AD and for the listed price. If you’re like me, and have zero chance to get on any Rolex waiting list, and you have to pay the insane premium on the grey market, then I actually don’t know what will happen with the price in the long run 🤷‍♂️ Thank you so much for watching and commenting 🙏

Nice vid. Considering your name is Goran, I would imagine your parents were from ex Yugoslavia. As someone who's from the region with a phd in mechanical engineering and a very well paying job (for the local region), Steinhart is a significant expense for me and the Rolex BLRO is completely unachievable in my lifetime. I am happy for you that you were able to afford it as a teacher, but please keep this disparity in mind and don't miss your birthplace or whatever. It's shit down here. Don't teach your kids anything positive about "our" region, as it's just poverty, corruption and perhaps nice vacation for people with money from richer countries. I enjoyed the video, some good points were brought out. Thanks!

invisuu Thanks 🙏 Yes, my parents are from Skopje in Macedonia and they came to Sweden in the 70’s. I was born in Sweden and have actually only been down there twice, one visit to Macedonia when I was a kid and one visit to Croatia where my aunt has a house. I have some family in Macedonia, uncle, aunt, cousins etc. My aunt actually works as a judge in the Supreme Court and my cousin is a lawyer and yes, Steinhart would be an significant expense for them as well. It’s funny, we were actually talking about this yesterday, me and my brother and father. I’m sorry to hear that it’s shit down there. We actually talk a lot with our kids about that. That they should be happy that they live here and that it doesn’t look the same all over the world. The one thing I always found quite strange with the lifestyle down there is that even though a Steinhart would be an significant expense to my cousin, people down there are always out, eating and drinking at bars and cafés, driving fairly nice and new cars etc. I don’t get the equation 😊 Where exactly are you from? Anyway, I really appreciate that you watched my video and your comment 👍

@@backintimewatches Oh yeah, please don't get me wrong, people are very nice, but then again so are Swedes, I'm sure. I personally live very modestly with my family, we go out to eat maybe a couple of times a year, mostly for anniversaries or birthdays, and we have 1 nearly 20 years old car that breaks down about 10 times a year. I just really dislike diaspora that are all like "yes kids, you now live in , but where you come from is the best country in the world!" I'm from Slovenia, the richest of ex-yugo countries I suppose, but the disparity between us and western Europe is still an order of magnitude, I'd say. I guess I just wanted to tell you I'm happy for you for having a nice(r) life, no harm intended, so please don't take it as such :) and that BLRO is absolutely amazing. If I had one, I wouldn't even think of Submariner, as BLRO is just a flat out better watch. Do you wear it in school? Do you get any negative remarks for it?

Absolute best value would be to splash 500 dollars for a zzf v2s submariner replica. Those are basically identical to the retail sub. And if a watch is almost identical but 8000-10000 dollars cheaper. Then who cares 😁 aslong as you can admit that the watch youre wearing is replica, and dont try to sell it for retail and such then it should all be fine 😎 thoughts?

Thanks for watching and commenting :) Nah, I really hate fakes and replicas and the whole business behind them. With homage-watches you at least know that the company is a legal, registrated company that have employes, pay them salarys and pay taxes etc. And it´s not almost identical :) Watch Bark 6 Jacks video where he compares a high end replica to the real deal. Sure, it might look similar, but it´s like putting lipstick on a pig, it doesn´t change the fact that its still a pig :)

Want a better looking watch than the whole lot put together go for a zelos watch . Bullet an bomb prof . The pagan has the same water proofness than the rolex it uses a nh35a movement this watch has and it has the specks of a 400 to 700 dollar watch

Thanks for watching and commenting 😊 But no 😂 I’ve owned a couple of Zelos, have some videos of them on the channel and two videos on the way. And they are really cool watches but bullet proof? Nah man. Sorry. They’re good but not better than anything else. And when it comes to looks, that’s all in the eye of the beholder 👍 The Pagani is a great watch, but honestly it’s nowhere near the quality and finish of the Steinhart or Davosa. It’s impressive for it’s price, but I would never pay $400 for it. It’s not easy to see the difference between it and the other watches here but when you have them all in front of you, like I do here, you feel the difference.
