0:01 - program gone crazy? Nope, this is just exactly the correct transcription of the title. I usually remark how transcribing these songs into runes is nothing but a treat, but this time, this not quite right.
Except for the first and last lines, which come from the Rígsþula and Hávamál respectively, the rest of the song comes from two runestones: one is the Karlevi stone (Öland, Sweden) and the other is the first Gørlev runestone (Gørlev, Denmark). For this reason, while I transcribed the rest of the lyrics as I usually do, for the lines taken from these runestones, I simply transcribed the original text. The only differences between the original and my transcription is that I took the freedom of adding the runes which were missing on the stones (a pretty common occurrence in runestones) and I didn’t flip some of the runes (namely part of the ᛋ from the Gørlev stone) for the simple reason that the font I used does not support flipped runes.
Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.

I have always loved that last part, it is my favorite. That rising and falling tune and the message of the lyrics. Those were among the first runes that I've read in Norse Mythology. I can never forget them.

@@theangeredcat247 elder and younger futhark are not a language. They are a writing system, much like the alphabet, cuneiform, sanskrit, kanji, etc. its not like the alphabet where tough is pronounced as tuff. In runes ᛏᚢᚠ makes that tuff sound; because words are spelled how they sound. in elder futhark the joke would be ᛃᛟᚱ•ᛗᛟᛗ•ᚷᛖᛃ: sounded out, yor mom gey (your mom gay, spelled out phonetically)

It kinda seems like it's being used as a shorthand for "dead warrior" in this case
@berserker4861
@berserker4861 Жыл бұрын
Dragur are dead viking warriors kinda like zombies that usually either are there to revenge themselves, protect a place like there burial grounds or simply cause chaos and kill, all depending how they lived and died but in this case can also mean dead warrior depending on context. Like how you would use dead man walking in english, it can mean a literal dead man walking, zombie, or and expresion for someone who is about to die.
