2 Years ago me and my friend Jon Curow heard that the weather in Toronto was going ot get cold enough for Lake Ontario to freeze over.
We got intel from someone on the Toronto Island who skates there frequently, so we made the trip out there and it was one I would not soon forget.
Caution: Make sure to CHECK ice thickness before you go out! Ice must be at least 4 inches thick to be able to skate on.

This is what being a 'canadian' is all about. Throughout the country from the maritimes to the prairies and to the pacific, from inuvik to point pelee there are people everywhere skating on frozen lakes and ponds. It is the quintesential Canadian activity which embraces the cold and warms the hearts and dreams of boys and girls everywhere. Skating is both powerful and magical in what it allows one to do. It is where children learn to dangle the puck, to glide across the open expanses, and feel the hidden power in themselves that pushes them farther and faster than they could ever dream possible. It is an adventure to skate on a cleared patch of lake ice and then learn that there were no limits to how far one could travel beyond that patch. It is an activity whose timetable is only limited by the winter night that falls earlier than desired. I, too, grew up gliding on ice, even if it was just a patch in the back yard lit by the porch light. I never grew tired of learning my limits and then pushing past them and then admiring those who excelled.

This is one of the most beautiful Canadiana videos that I've ever seen. It literally brought tears to my eyes. You would have to skate on a regulation sized rink length ways (200 f or 60.96) 1399.27822 times skate to cross Lake Ontario width ways (85.30 km or 279855.643 feet). It wouldn't take the same amount of energy though because of the stopping in the rink.

It would've been helpful & responsible to advise anyone seeing this & make a disclaimer, that the weather conditions were insanely cold 2yrs ago & that this is not a common occurance & shouldn't be tried in average/regular Toronto winter conditions. 2 years ago Toronto had a major cold spell (Polar Vortex) where temperatures dipped between -25°C & -40°C for a week that allowed for many parts of the lake to freeze over. If I recall correctly, all 4 (technically there are 5, but Lake Michigan & Huron are actually connected) Great Lakes that border Canada & the USA, all completely froze over that year.

Mason Paschall All 5 Great Lakes in North America do freeze like this. Maybe you should visit Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois, New York State, or Ontario to get access to these Lakes.

@@christiankleckner8014 My advice to any player regardless of position is to maximize the amount of focus you have whenever you train. When you go through a drill or study technique, do it to the absolute best of your ability. Redefine what you are capable of with each training session and game.

You'd be dissappointed. It rarely gets cold enough long enough for the lake to freeze. When it does, the ice is usually covered in snow. This skatable ice is rare.

You would have to skate on a regulation sized rink length ways (200 f or 60.96) 1399.27822 times skate to cross Lake Ontario width ways (85.30 km or 279855.643 feet). It wouldn't take the same amount of energy though because of the stopping in the rink.
