Sacagawea, Marco Polo, Tenzing Norgay... What do these folks have in common? Not only were they all potential names for Aaron's first child, they were GUIDES! Check it out as Aaron runs us through the perks of using guides in SketchUp!

Wow, so I am a very new beginner, I had actually stumbled onto this feature and use it all the time. I really like how you can click on an edge, type a number and the guide line does that distance . I use it in all my models. Now if I can learn the bending tools I'll be all set lol

at 3.26 you say tap the alt or options key - did you mean the control key? That is how it worked for me!

After the first 3 minutes of showing us what not to do - that could have been left out - the video was very good. Would have liked to see how to set up guides that are not parallel to another edge (or perpendicular to an axis). By default guides are all on one layer that is not listed in the tags/layers window so you get all or nothing with them. It can be helpful to set up other tags/layers specifically for guides which can then be toggled on/off for use/reference. I always allocate my guides to such specific layers so when drawing a surveyed building for example, that is an irregular shape, I have guide tags for each side of the building (front, rear, left and right) and once they have been used for reference I turn the tag off. Prior to doing it this way my drawing was a myriad of guides that I could not differentiate between. Thanks for making the video

Hello Aron...Thank You for your tutorials...! If you make guidelines on a component or group, You can then "enter" and make more guides in here..."Delete all guides" is then active Only inside this component/group. (When you close the group/component, guides outside are still present). PS: Guides can be moved and rotated via the normal tools. Helpful on roofing angles.

Trying to select, reposition, or even identify where existing guidelines are in SketchUp has proven very frustrating. Is this process easier with the Desktop app compared to the web-based version of SketchUp? Heck, can't even figure out how to toggle their visibility!

I wish guide lines can be use as a boundary for adding materials or colors to an object.

I have it set up in mm. Every time I click and hold and then type in a measurement and then release. Not only does it not put in the measurement that I have chosen. It makes its own one up. This is very frustrating. I hope that I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Internet. The way it works is by using the "Search Bar" to learn what you want to learn instead of asking the first person you see. Try it! It's free! 👍☕
